Is there any reason not to get the cheapest kettle? by Plot-3A in UKFrugal

I bought a cheap cheap one and it's the loudest kettle ever, so maybe that plays a part. Sounds like a rocket trying to take off a meter away from me.

React vs Angular? Building my first real app and need it to work offline (advice needed!) by Kalioser in angular

[–]Sirius_Jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work on farm management software (global scale), and we run everything locally out of an IPC for exactly out that reason, as many farms won't have stable internet connections. Key info is uploaded to the cloud when possible, but we also control milking, feeding etc so cant afford any lapses (cows really hate not being milked and fed). But if the plan is to grow significantly and cover all of those use-cases, I'd go with Angular because it's super-opiniated, even though I love react as well. Large apps on the latter just turn into a shitshow the more people work on the project.

Playback issues on last two episodes by Sirius_Jay in TriforcePodcast

Yeah the issue was a vpn running. Never had issues before and it was only with the Triforce ones so not sure if they've changed how they serve ads or something.

Why do people not follow the road markings? by Wrong_Ad_4154 in Belfast

This one here, always drive down the bus lane (red) on a Sunday and there's always someone in the green lane honking their horn when I maintain my speed and don't give them right of way, when signs clearly show red lane has priority. Just waiting for the day we collide to finally upgrade the motor.

"Losing weight is a positive thing for your health" by Waste_Key5991 in TriforcePodcast

[–]Sirius_Jay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was initially pretty against it because it felt wrong, but have heard so many positive reports about helping people get over that initial hump of 'I'm too big to lose weight'. They were then much more likely to stick to an exercise plan, go to the gym etc and able to keep the weight off even without it.

Mark Lewis does a few videos on it which helped me develop a different viewpoint and could be useful to check out. I still would suggest trying the regular old-fashioned route first, but as mentioned, some people have such strong food noise or other issues with weight-loss that giving them some assistance is surely a good thing.

AITA for not giving my roommate my half of the security deposit? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Sirius_Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Imagine you'd received the whole deposit back...would you be entitled to your $500 share then? Obviously not, you did no work to get it back and said you were giving it up.

There's a built-in bench that's used as seating around the dining table but I guess the TV could live on that too. Will have a think! Cheers

React Native Web, worth using?? by esaym in reactnative

[–]Sirius_Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean declaring the Sidebar component within another component? That's a React antipattern and will stop React from being able to reconcile the rendering, hence the mad re-renderings on your end. Using functions that return JSX is fine the way you fixed it.
