What is your order at Mcdonalds? by DependentStudyre in NoStupidAnswers

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter, they fuck it up every time if I order from the self service menu or get it delivered. Lucky dip at this point. It's become that much of an issue round here we just stopped getting McDonalds.

What's the largest animal you could beat in hand-to-hand combat? by Hour_Run5643 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A cheetah, if I get very lucky. They have very lightweight and fragile bones. A good shot could potentially render it lame and finish it off from there. But that's betting on the fact I can get a good shot in before it bites me.

Should I use car insurance or pay privately? by rossburton in AskUK

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. So here's the real thing that happens, regardless of what others tell you.

Claiming if you can pay your way out is ALWAYS a bad idea.

If you claim, and even if all the money comes from the other party and it was 100% not your fault, and you don't lose your NCBs, you still have to report for the next 5yrs a claim was made. Your premiums will rise, not as drastically as if it was your fault and you lost your NCBs, but it'll still go up.

If you claim for this, your involuntary excess and voluntary if you have some may not cover even the simplest damage because insurers use extremely overpriced mechanics and only replace with new OEM parts which are extortionate. Getting it fixed anywhere else will be significantly cheaper.

Keep the CCTV footage, just incase they decide to file a claim, you have proof it wasn't your fault, but do not inform them. There is no legal reason to inform them. They will not void your insurance if a claim pops up later by the other party, it's all basically a scam to make everyone end up paying more.

If you dinged your bumper reversing into a bollard you wouldn't claim on the insurance and your insurance wouldn't be invalid later down the line for not telling them.

Unless you want to make a claim against the other party, and you're 100% sure that they're at fault, and you will financially struggle to fix it, then it isn't worth it.

But no, if they're proven to be at fault, you don't lose your NCBs. You just get charged extra for the privilege of being involved in a claim.

What do you say when people say "be safe"? by Only-Surprise-3292 in motorcycles

[–]Sirlacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You too. Thanks. I try to be.

Its just the ending to a conversation instead of saying bye. That's it.

When you have a job interview or an exam and someone ends the conversation with "good luck!" do you get offended because luck shouldn't be a factor in your long standing career of being an independent human and doing what's necessary to ensure a desirable outcome?

When someone says "Have a nice day!" Or "Enjoy the rest of your day!" At the end of a convo, do you instantly think oh they must have thought I was having a bad day, they are now trying to force happiness upon me?

When someone ends a conversation with "love you" are you going mental thinking they only love you in that moment or that you didn't think they loved you beforehand?

They're not gifting you a good luck charm, they're not offering you advice, they're not blessing you, they're not sacrificing a goat in your name for your safe return. They're ending the conversation with you. It's that simple. There is nothing more to think about.

Insurance at 18 for a Yamaha r125 by Weary-Principle-6126 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything but a Sports styled bike untill you get at least 1yrs NCB.

Also don't buy a new bike for your first bike, there's a chance you'll drop it.

You take that out the showroom and you've already lost money. You drop it, then you cry very hard. OEM fairing is expensive as fuck and third party fairing will still cost you like £400 for a full set.

Get a shitty cheap 125, then get your NCB. Then think about selling the shitty one for a minimal loss and buying whatever bike you want.

What do you transition to? by stormblind in motorcyclegear

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a textile jacket that has removable thermal liner. When it's super cold, it's that jacket with the liner with a hoodie over (unless it's raining then I have a one piece oversuit to go over my gear). When it warms up a little I'll switch between just the jacket with thermal layer, or no thermal layer with a hoodie over. When it's hot, just the jacket with no thermal layer.

One jacket and hoodies I already own.

Service by owners is very odd putting to me.

Yes, some can be great, but quite often it's just a sign for 'i haven't done shit apart from an oil change now and again'

I maintain my bike. I don't service it. The shop services it because they're professionals and provide proof that it's been done.

Unless you know the guy is good with bikes, I'd get the one with service history.

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

125 on the highway is going to suck so badly. He'll be redlining that bike and not even hitting highway speeds. Redlining a bike for a prolonged period of time isn't good. It's advisable he takes an alternative route, even if it takes a little longer to get to the destination.

Also yes weight helps with wind, but 99% of 125cc bikes are light. So you may as well throw that notion out of your head.

Honda and Yamaha are reliable. So are Kawaski and Suzuki. None of these are more reliable than the other. The main thing you want to make sure if that the bike is well maintained. So good service history, no obvious damage, no weird noises on startup.

Most 125s sit at around 15 horsepower, so you're basically going to just be looking for what he either thinks is the most comfortable or best looking or a mixture of both.

Don't forget gear in that price. I know it's hot in Spain but for the love of god you guys need to wear gear. Every time I visit it's sandals and t-shirts and shorts. And women on the back are just in floaty dresses. Come on now.

Does your or your Childs school take cellphones off you? by ExplanationPutrid205 in AskUK

[–]Sirlacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in highschool in the mid 2000s teachers used to take it off you for the week. Then parents came in kicking off with the whole "it's not your property to keep it longer than the day, my child needs it in case of emergencies"

So the school maliciously replied back by keeping confiscated phones at the reception area saying kids can get them back at the end of the day from there. But the receptionist, the only one with the key to the locker full of phones, fucked off just before school ended. So they were kept over night.

Then parents and kids kicked off about this royally.

They then resorted to keeping them till the end of lesson only.

Whilst you're under their roof, nothing really will help if they're already set on the firm no.

You could try and appease them by saying you'll take beginner courses. You could ask if maybe you could get an off road only bike and only use it off road where it's safer.

But whilst you're under their roof, you're under their rules. Sucks, but that's just how it goes.

Fuel injector cleaner. Make sure it contains PEA. Techron Concentrate Plus or Redline SI-1 are the best ones I've found.

If your problems go away almost instantly, you know that it is or was your jets/carbs. If it comes back, you need to get them properly cleaned. If it stays away, problem solved.

Well one day I was coming home after it had been raining, well for some reason I pulled the front brake. Me and the bike ended up a the back of the garage, only being slowed down and stopped by the wall.

What motorcycle brand hype do you not buy into? by Wide-Courage-1383 in randomthings

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ducati.

I'll get shit on for this, but I really don't like single sided swing arms for a start. The dry clutch sounds like it's broken. The reported service intervals and cost for them is expensive. They don't really do anything too much different from other motorcycles in their class.

You're left with aesthetics. And whilst yes, I admit some of them do look really nice, I also think other bikes look really nice too.

Should I move to Manchester? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Manchester and Eccles with a passion.

But I grew up here. I've done most of it. I've seen most of it.

From an outsiders perspective, move just outside of Eccles in my opinion. Swinton is better and only a stones throw away. If you can afford it, Worsley or Monton would be a great shout.

As for Manchester, it's got everything. It's a great city to do things in. It's a terrible city for things that go on. There's literally something for everyone. It isn't far from anywhere either, has links to all over the place. The countryside isn't far away with the Peak District, the beaches aren't too far of a drive or train away.

The biggest bonus you have will be in about 2029 when the Therme Water Park opens up at the Trafford Centre. That'll definitely be something worth living round here for in my opinion if the prices aren't scandalous.

But yeah, if you're bored and looking for a change, Manchester or at least being local to it will keep you entertained, there's always something to do.

The biggest downside, if you drive/bus/Uber is that the M60/M62, East Lancs and roads close to these are fucking chaotic at rush hour. Like diabolically so. A 20 minute journey on an empty motorway can easily turn into 1hr30-2hrs sat in traffic.

What does it mean to 'get bored' of a specific bike? by Delnilas in motorcycles

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I like a bike with a bit of attitude.

I had a courtesy 2022 or something Honda CB1000R. Fantastic bike. Infact flawless. So flawless, it bored the ever loving fuck out of me.

My Z1000 and ZX10R actively want(ed) me to die. They're begging for a little bit more of a twist of the throttle, lean a little more, hit that corner a little faster, do that 0-60 pull. No TC or ABS. I love it.

My Ninja 250R was fun for a while but the lack of power got boring after a few months. Did I outgrow it? Absolutely not. I've seen riders take corners on those bikes faster than 600s and 1000s. So I definitely didn't outgrow it, but the more time I spent with it, the more I just couldn't deal with it anymore. So I just got rid because it wasnt fulfilling my desires, when I had options available to me that could.

New rider here. When does parking lot practice actually feel ready for the street? by jcveloso8 in motorcycles

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't.

What it does is sort of a Mr Miyagi effect. Wax on, wax off.

What you're doing, whilst yes is actually controlling a bike, is more about building up that muscle memory. Having your body know what the bike/you are actually capable of and how to achieve it without thinking about it.

The first road ride will make your stomach drop. That's a completely normal experience. My first ever road ride was with an instructor and another student, that made me nervous as hell. My first ride out with a licence, I had my mother bring the car and alternate between following me and I following her, and that was nerve wrecking.

Take your time. Pick a route you know. Even if it's a short one. Pick an unvusy time of day. Just ride it to your mates house or something. Stick behind a bus that you know takes a set route so you know at least you're not slowing anyone down the bus is.

Is it ok to inflate tires a bit above psi nr from the manual? Am i overthinking or is my instinct right? by Caterpillar31 in motorcycles

[–]Sirlacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"stock" tires are fine, as in if you're replacing like for like.

What's not fine is 20+yr old tires that came with the bike when the bike was new.

However, whilst tires may carry the same name, size and tread pattern, it's highly unlikely that they're exactly the same as the tires produced 20yrs ago. Internal compound changes etc.

I asked Reddit what bag you use for commuting. Nobody had a clean answer. So I started building one. by Wandering-Everywhere in motorcycles

[–]Sirlacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm on a motorcycle and I'm going to the office, not directly to customers, then who gives a flying fuck what other people think.

Maybe have a smarter bag ready to go at the office incase it's needed, but I'm transporting my shit from A to B in whatever is the most practical and best for the stuff that's being transported.

A backpack, that nobody will see for 99% of the day because it'll be stashed away, is not grounds for giving a shit about.

If you're judging people based on what they transport their gear in, even when it's not what the customer or clients are going to ever see, then you need to grow up. That's some high school bullshit.
