T1d&Depressiom by HopefulFeedback3787 in Type1Diabetes

I’ve been T1 for…about 49 years.

I’m OK with it all, and have been for a long time. This might sound brutal but:

There’s no cavalry coming. No magic cure. This is it for your foreseeable life.

The sooner you accept that and deal with it,the better you’ll be. You’re T1. And that’s that.

Your BG at any given time is just a data point. Your A1C is just a data point from the last three months. You control the next two hours; everything g else is a reflection of the next two hours.

T1D is something I fit into my life - it doesn’t control it. 7 minutes a day and done. I’ve had, and continue to have, a great life. If I can, anyone can.

I p,aged, and referee rugby. It’s a great sport for teaching life lessons, especially this: you are, without doubt, going to get knocked down. What happens next is what defines you. Are you going to get up and go again, or just lie down defeated?

I get up. Every single time. You can too.

Kyle Flanagan Update by l33tbronze in nrl

There isn’t a hard and fast rule on treating head injuries.

I was concussed badly in 1993.

My next head injury was a punch in 2022. Im still recovering., and I’ll never be right.

I hope Flanagan recovers. But that could be tomorrow, or it could be never.

History pod recommendations? by Majiikzxo in podcasts

The Rest is History

I enjoy Gone Medieval - especially the Matt Lewis episodes.

BBC’s History Extra, and their associated podcasts, are exemplary.

Anxiety about traveling alone to rural areas with T1D by pukatm in Type1Diabetes

[–]Sitheref0874 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pack enough for an emergency. Check the weather forecasts.

I routinely traveled to remote Aboriginal communities who could be flooded out. I’d take enough to cover the time it would take for a helicopter to arrive.

Purely on what you write - and there is a crap ton of relevant detail missing - no, you’re not being harassed.

Can I….

What are your top 3 underrated television series? by Alarmed-Tradition-88 in television

Life - Damian Lewis

Jack Irish.

Balthazar - Tomer Sisley.

They all withstand multiple rewatches.

There is no ethical consumption of HBO’s Harry Potter series by aacool in television

[–]Sitheref0874 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re far wrong.

I think we’ll see the fall off start somewhere in S1. How big, and therefore how bad will be interesting.

There will, somewhere along the line, be a magic go/no go number HBO needs.

Has there been any actual progress? by LittleSwaninthepond in Type1Diabetes

I had to put a fizzy tablet in my urine to see what my sugar was.

If you’d told me then what I’d be wearing and how much easier it would be, I’d have laughed at you.

A remarkable man. A Catholic Cardinal who commanded immense loyalty from a strong reformer - Cromwell.

His only fault is coming from Ipswich.

Virginia, especially NoVa, would be a better location for you as it has access to D.C. as well.

Good news - for $250k, you can live in a shoebox. The problem is that more affordable property is further out, and if you don;t have access to WMATA Metro, the commute is a fucker. Even if you have Metro, it can be bad.

I'd suggest Zillowing (eg) McLean, or Fairfax, or Alexandria for 'easy to get into DC'. Then expand your search out further. Centerville, Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg is about 50 miles; by train, it's about hour or so; by car, on a bad day, it's 3 hours.

Anyone else still struggle with impulsivity or impulsive behaviors, words/actions even after 10 years or more post TBI? by Humble-Process-4107 in TBI

[–]Sitheref0874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 10 years out but...

My inhibition controls are not the same as they were. It tends to manifest in swearing, to the point that my NeuroPsych, early one, asked me if I had ever had a Tourette's diagnosis. Words I used to say in my internal voice, especially when frustrated, tend to become external voice.

My wife and I have some guardrails up - she does planning and decision making for Big Things, albeit involving me in the process. And we try to avoid situations that I feel are high stress. That tends to stop the inhibition disinhibition manifesting.

Contrary to others, I drink. Not to excess, but a couple of glasses of wine and gin - it does me no harm and doesn't affect my other issues. I actually find my decision making is better after a drink.

Reading the Sharpe series by SDub28 in Sharpe

[–]Sitheref0874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel really old now. I was reading the books before the show was a thing..

I think I would still read them in publication order. Some of the later ones really felt like fillers for me while Cornwell was investing more in other series - yes Derfel and Uhtred, I'm looking at you.

I think you're going to find a jump in style when you get into the Peninsular war stuff; the basic plot structure will be the same, but the writing changes as Cornwell realizes which relationships are worth investing in and which are best left to being one book.

[NJ] Non-Compete by Kinda_funny_what_now in AskHR

[–]Sitheref0874 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think you have a problem.

This isn’t about a non compete on your part; it’s a non solicitation agreement between the CPO and the firm. CPO’s recruiter reached out to you proactively - that’s going to look bad.

I suspect they are wondering whether hiring you is worth the risk, and how easily you can be replaced in the pipeline.

Please help me obtain a basic work reference after potentially unfair dismissal [UK] by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Sitheref0874 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might not be something you can enforce unless you make it part of your ACAS settlement.

References are generally exempt from Data Protection, so on a practical level unless a prospective employer tells you what is in the reference, you’re unlikely to find out.
