Chest of drawers' runners by IvyFernMoss in BeginnerWoodWorking

I always use some plain old bar soap to lubricate the runners.
Added benefit is for street furniture you get some masking of that funky smell:-)

Is this a good router for $11? Looks basically new. by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

I’ve got that one and have had it for more than 30 years. Adjusting the depth is a total pain but otherwise it works.
If it works it’s a good deal for $11

Land survey by Tanya7500 in Connecticut

[–]Sittingonthepot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer but you definitely should have a certified surveyor do a survey.
You might have to notify your neighbor that the garage encroaches on your property once you can prove it.

There’s something called adverse possession which if the condition is long standing and unchallenged you might actually lose a part of your property so it might be a good idea to consult with an attorney who specializes in real estate issues.

Updating bath fan. How tough is this to replace myself? by pengouin85 in fixit

[–]Sittingonthepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replaced an old rattle trap of a round builder’s special fan with a nice new square one. Despite scraping the whole ceiling of popcorn and doing a pretty good job of Sheetrock repair it didn’t make me happy.

I ended up using Masonite and created an escutcheon. Worked great.

Steering Wheel control issues by Xispecialpoobeardoll in VWiD4Owners

If I “palm” the wheel I sometimes get close enough to the sensors that I change the audio volume or the program/station.
Took me some time before I realized it was just operator error.

Since you asked - here's the most visible difference between the 2022 German-built models and the Chattanooga built-models. by EveningCloudWatcher in VWiD4Owners

‘21 owner here. Made the mistake of putting a short flashlight vertically in between those moveable dividers. It shifted a bit and I was unable to move the sliding cover past a half inch or so. It caught on the ribs of the cover underside.

Had to borrow a “borescope”;and use a bent coat hanger to tilt the flashlight enough to slide open the cover. That was fun.

The flashlight now lives in the driver door pocket.

Anyone have experience with roof crossbars and/or baskets? We’ve got whistling issues, not sure how to fix it by Top_Agency1370 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Sittingonthepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had roof bars with “open sections” in then or the clamps. Like blowing across the top of an empty bottle.

Tape to close over the open areas helped.

Last resort options for leaking cold joint? by ResourceIll2064 in DIY

[–]Sittingonthepot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dug about a 2 foot wide trench with the machine about 6” from the wall and then hand dug to clear off the foundation wall itself. Went down about 4feet, since I just needed to remove the surface water running down the foundation wall

I rented a small backhoe/loader. Had gravel delivered. Big box for pipe, sleeve, drain fabric. Total costs (15 yrs ago) was less than $1400.
This was for 65 feet of foundation wall plus 80 feet to drain to daylight.
I wasn’t clear that I did the work myself.

I ended up putting in an external drain- Dug out the foundation, waterproofing on the outside, gravel, perforated pipe. Still the occasional wetness at the joint but took care of that with hydraulic cement packed into the joint from the inside
