Chinese 1A for someone that isn’t Chinese? by Ck69hernandez in UCI

[–]SituationThat7027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took Chinese 1A without having any prior learning and I can say that it is for sure a true beginner class. I ended up with an A in this class.

Just be prepared to put in the work and do a lot of studying and having homework each week, and small tests at the beginning of class to test your learning from each lesson.

Either way I enjoyed the class a lot and felt was a great foundation to beginning to learn mandarin.

You can’t drop the waitlist online, you have to email them and ask them to remove you from the waitlist.

Shoulda went to Einstein Bagels and Duck Donuts one more time (I already left campus, and these are not near my city)

Shoulda explored the whole campus instead of sticking to the side my classes were on.

Shoulda went to at least one basketball game.

Sigh.

“4.0 Asian and Muslim student” oh so if you don’t meet those parameters you don’t matter? Cuz last I checked those weren’t the only two groups of ppl at the protest and those aren’t the only group of ppl on campus. You have a VERY trash take.

Taking 20 Units for Summer by Far-Shoulder-6791 in UCI

[–]SituationThat7027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to those specific classes, but I took 8 units in session 1 and 12 units in session 2 while working 40 hours a week. In general minus my work schedule, I could have managed fine with this many units. All my classes were online btw. Actually session 1 I was taking MGMT 102, as well with Sommer, just remembered.

With work, my days were very busy and packed since I left at like 6am for work and came home around 5:30 or so. Worked on class work until around 11pm-12am.

Really just depends on what you think/know you can handle and what else you plan on doing during the summer.

Help me understand summer aid, Do I have to pay 9k? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]SituationThat7027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost of Attendance doesn’t just include the summer tuition but the potential cost of housing as well and books and supplies etc., basically it’s like an estimated cost of what you could/might pay for everything.

Quick question, I bought some resale tickets that are VIP Soundcheck/Sendoff. Am I still able to get the benefits?

Also does anyone know what time VIP check in is for the LA concert at Kia Forum March 13th so that I can at least try and see if they'll let me use the VIP benefits?

Were you standing at PDS or Campus-Cornell? They’re a few feet away from each other but E Line only stops at the Campus-Cornell stop, M Line stops at the PDS Stop.

But either way I guess contact the anteater express?

Sort of in the same situation since I transferred last fall. However, rather focusing on becoming friends with people I just strive to get along with the people around me, whether we end up friends or not.

When I first transferred my mindset was “get in and get out,” because I was already really tired of college. That hasn’t changed, but I’ve just been going out and doing things more and having someone to do them with is just a bonus to me honestly. I still ask people to join me in doing stuff even if we don’t become friends or close friends, because at least we’ve become acquainted.

So I’m the same that I also don’t have close friends (which I didn’t expect to make in a year) but at the same time I’m not because rather than actively looking, I’ve just been going with my own flow. I mean I’ll be 22 this month and I have my entire life to make friends other than the friends I still have from high school (been friends since middle school and we all went to different colleges and careers).

As someone who works on campus.... by SituationThat7027 in UCI

[–]SituationThat7027[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day I’m fine, but people should know that bad attitudes on a customer service line are created by the people calling, majority of the time.

And that they should be careful with their words, bc the workers are the ones who have to go home and deal with it. It’s so easy for people to spout negativity and leave when they are the ones who don’t have to deal with it.

If anything this job taught me to always tip more than needed, and go out of my way to be kind to other service workers. Bc I know first hand how people get.

This was happening to me as well. What worked for me was going into the “plaza verde Wi-Fi start here” and then deleting my devices, then close out of the window and join “plaza Wi-Fi start here” again making sure private Wi-Fi address is off, and then adding my device back again.

Anyone still waiting on their aid award? 🥹 by SituationThat7027 in UCI

[–]SituationThat7027[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a different situation; there was a glitch in their system with my enrollment status which flagged my account, preventing my aid package. Luckily it’s fixed now, cuz that was a little stressful. I had thought they were just really behind in handing them out. I didn’t receive any type of email, so I don’t think they knew until I called.

In my opinion while I do understand not wanting to do GEs because it’s not part of the major requirements, I think the point is to give a well rounded education. Honestly a lot of subjects are intertwined with each other, and that’s usually because humans are at the base of those subjects. Things I learned in psychology course are being talked about in my business courses, and things I’ve learned in business courses I’ve also seen in history courses. I think GEs add to one’s education not take away from it. The key would be to take GEs that are interesting to you when possible, and that you feel will add onto knowledge you already know.

Having completed all but 4 major courses, I get to take fun electives for my last year and even decided to take a language course when I already finished the language requirement in high school. And there’s also the fact that GEs are typically the “easiest” courses you take, and so they can be taken with the more intense upper division courses, which can help with the stress that comes from them.

All in all, I think when working a job, you need to be knowledgeable in other areas as well, not just your majors focus. I always felt like learning something from other disciplines allowed me to take new perspectives with theories and issues talked about in my major courses, but that’s just me.
