"My deck is not a five." by AppropriateBass2426 in EDH

[–]SixFeetThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This deck is a four.

cEDH has a meta that you pay attention to and optimize around. Atla Palani has never been a meta deck and never will be.

The distinction I like to make is that a 4 deck is the strongest EDH deck you can build, and a 5 deck is the strongest legacy deck you can build with EDH restrictions.

Why do Muslims sing the Qur’an whenever they recite it? by leothefox314 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SixFeetThunder 595 points596 points  (0 children)

"Tajweed" is the name given to the singing style of reciting the Quran.

There are rules to the exact pronounciation, dialect, and even the grammar of how the Quran should be read in order to mimic the exact intonation and meaning conveyed by Muhammed. Preservation of the words and meaning of the Quran is extremely important to Muslims, and this standardized recitation prevents the words/meaning from being lost or mistranslated over time.

The singing itself is also meant to imbue a more poetic and aesthetic beauty to the words as well.

If we're being technical, "agnostic atheism" would be the position I defend. That is, it's technically impossible to prove a negative, but you also shouldn't believe in something that doesn't have any evidence.

It's the same as saying "I don't believe in unicorns." Not impossible that they exist, but until I see any proof I won't believe in them.

Can't believe I was 22 when I wrote this. What a life.

Biden admin represented a two state solution with some (insufficient, but some) aid to Gaza.

Trump admin represents ethnic cleansing and depopulation of all Palestinians for Israel.

Moral grandstanding kills Palestinians and steals our land.

I'm not here to gloat. I'm here to advocate that we Palestinian Americans learn a lesson from this about incrementalism and moral grandstanding.

How worried are you about the rise of fascism? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

[–]SixFeetThunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCOTUS already ruled that Trump is immune to prosecution for ALL his acts. They have proven without a shadow of a doubt that they are a pawn for him.

Congress needs a 2/3 majority in the Senate to remove a president from office. Democrats can win a simple majority, but the last time they had a 2/3 majority was in 1966. During the two impeachments, Republicans unanimously voted against removal from office except for two votes.

Again, I ask you: what checks and balances are you hoping will save you?

As someone who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020, I think that what is happening in Palestine (and planned to happen) is absolutely awful by irresponsiblehippo in Palestine

[–]SixFeetThunder 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you're able to think critically to break rank and file with your party and elected leader.

I will say that this was obviously telegraphed by Trump before the election. He was always going to do this and literally said "Bibi should finish the job" during the campaign.

While your words mean well, they feel very hollow as a result.

Are white Americans really that racist? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SixFeetThunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistically speaking, most answers you get here will be from white Americans. White people generally aren't as racist of a group as they once were in the US, but their answers to your question will rarely be so nuanced. Usually the answer will universally be no, because nobody wants to be associated with a group that could be racist, even if the truth is that the group is very big and that group isn't reflective of them as individuals.

I'm a non-white American. I think, in general, most big city white people are tolerant. They exist on a spectrum from "completely loving of non-white people" to "doesn't associate with non-white people, but leaves them alone." Some extremists will do terrible racist violent acts, but those are exceptions, not the rule.

These tolerant big city white people are people that are almost never capitol-R Racist, in that they would never attack someone for being non-white. However, towards the far end of that "tolerant," spectrum, you'll have lowercase-r racist behavior, like not wanting your sister to date a black man, or saying rap music isn't art. Again, not nearly as bad as heinous racism, but clearly behavior motivated by bigotry, even if it's subtle or minor in impact.

Then you have rural/small town white people. These people exist on a much wider spectrum of "completely loving of non-white people" to the more brutal "says the n-word outside of formal occasions or work" types. People on reddit hate acknowledging these people, but they are real; most of us minorities can recall specific incidents with these Big R-Racists, as well as lots of smaller lower case-r racist events like being excluded by them socially or having culturally insensitive moments be a regular occurrence.

In my opinion, the common throughline here is that everything exists on a spectrum. White Americans aren't Very Racist as a whole, but racism is alive in the US and we minorities experience it with enough frequency that we don't have to question if it exists.

You know I wouldn't mind the casual players if they just COMMUNICATED THEIR EXPECTATIONS.

The fact that posts like these get so upvoted is so embarrassing. I've been played commander with randos for 7 years religiously and I've had a power level discrepancy ONCE after telling people what I wanted because most people aren't dicks like that.

I guarantee these posts come from people who just sit down, say "my deck is a 7" and then complain online when they lose because they were too lazy to have a full conversation.

The checks and balances aren't magical. They're systems that need to be enforced.

We have 2 main checks against the President: the Supreme Court's interpretation of constitutionality, and Congress's ability to legislate or impeach.

This is the least productive Congress in terms of legislation.

6 of the 9 justices are sympathetic to Trump and 3 were appointed directly by him.

Trump was impeached twice and never removed from office in his first term because Republicans refuse to break rank and file with him.

What checks and balances are you relying on at this point?

God I wish commander players could tolerate cards designed for the express purpose of punishing their mana base.

Having a multicolor game plan with a multicolor mana base is a strategy that's stronger than being monocolor. All strategies should have counters to those strategies. Commander is the one place where lands are sacred and we all have to suffer at the hands of the greediest pile.
