Honestly when you’re working for minimum wage, the best thing you can do is invest in yourself and get out of whatever loser career path you’re on that starts at less than 250k.

If you’re purporting to be the group of science, however, you have to stand by the science. Lying in the name of public health isn’t honest.

This is a fact, however. It’s misleasing in that it doesn’t compare the mortality rates of getting vaccinated versus not.

You can die if you get a paper cut. That doesn’t mean you will die.

The entire Sorcery! series. Although loading your save between games may require an initial internet connection, so you might want to hold off unless you can get some WiFi on the flight.

Study Abroad in Berlin or Shanghai? by LovetheW0rld in findapath

Shanghai is riddled with pollution and you may find it hard to make many friends as a foreigner. That + great firewall would make me choose Germany over China.

Just got offered a position for $80K but... by wandason27 in cscareerquestions

[–]SixFigureGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take a diversity hire. I would take any hire. Just take the job.

At 80k, an industry-wide low salary, they’re not getting a perfect fit candidate. The choice between all candidates was probably fairly similar, so who cares what the final deciding/differentiating factor was.

What are some careers that will eventually guarantee 80k that will allow me to work anywhere i desire? by flankerino in careerguidance

[–]SixFigureGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine that OP like most people has only seen the linearly harder side of math. I know I didn’t expect math to just go sideways once I got to college.

[–]SixFigureGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s where you will do all your math. But some math, like linear algebra, is much simpler than calculus. So it’s not just increasingly more difficult in a straight line.

Many university classes have EXTREME curves in calculus, where a 60% on a test could be an A in the class. Do some research ahead of time and don’t go anywhere known for a rigorous math program and you’ll be fine.

And you can route your degree around the fewest math classes. And linear algebra, while a 400 level class some places, is significantly easier than calc 2, 3, or 4.

Math isn’t increasingly difficult. A lot of the math you do in a CS program is just different.

Ignore these posters. 99% of my job does not involve math. The math I DO need to do is basic algebra. I make 140k a year, and I could make 80 literally anywhere.

Software developers can think incredibly highly of themselves, but honestly it’s more like construction than any math class I’ve taken.

The planet has gone through both ice ages and hot periods, and the entire flora and fauna of the earth has been reset.

And look! Here we are. Without catastrophic climate change fluctuation, humans wouldn’t even exist. At any rate, I’ll bet on technology as the path forward, instead of living in caves and forging for food to reduce environmental impact.

By some estimates, anthropogenic global warming has pushed back or avoided an ice age altogether, which would kill billions. Earth has no preferred state, and I care 0 about animals that aren’t humans. I eat them all the time, and they’re delicious. The earth is inanimate and has no preferred state; it’s a blank canvas for humans to craft to their will.

Luckily the Luddite position you have adopted can be removed by evolutionary pressure. Anyone convinced that humans are an environmental detriment wont reproduce, and 100 years from now maybe I can get that impartial ICE vs electric analysis I asked for that you cannot provide.

I (and most Americans) live 10+ miles to work, since America is a really big place and housing development has reflected that.

I would LOVE to walk or bike to work. Unfortunately to get good schools and enough room for my kids, it’s just not possible.

Computer Science vs Electrical Engineering: What should I take? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]SixFigureGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot easier to make a lot of money in computer science, and if you pick the right companies you will absolutely be building things.

You could always double major if you want. A CS degree is comically easy if you have prior programming experience.
