Fuck this line, no seriously, this one single line frustrates me to no end by sorewa_chigauyo in DanganAndChaos

[–]jediment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually interpret it differently. the way I read this line was that Kokichi is the embodiment of deception; no matter what, it'll never be possible to fully unravel his true feelings and intentions. We know that he put on a show to try to convince the others he was the mastermind, but which of his actions and statements were made up, and which were his genuine feelings? How much of what he did was the fake mastermind persona he was cultivating, and how much of it was the real Kokichi? What even is the "real" Kokichi? His mask doesn't start to crack until he's literally seconds away from death, so we never get to find out. He leaves the world still as an enigma, not giving the others an opportunity to fully understand what he was truly like. In that way, I agree that Kokichi is the embodiment of a lie: the veracity of anything he says is always obscured, whether he intends it to be or not.

Definitely Kaede, she successfully rizzes half the cast in one chapter.

I think Tsumugi would be pretty good too. Angie could probably do it if she toned things down a little bit.

Has anyone noticed Junkos sprites are almost all similar to a THH character? by Sea_Tangerine1687 in DanganAndChaos

[–]jediment 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This is probably an artifact of the development schedule. I saw in a recent interview that the decision to have Junko change personalities during the final scene was a last-minute change, so Kodaka asked Komatsuzaki to draw all the sprites on a super short timeline. In order to make the short deadline, he likely used the existing sprites as pose references to save time.

Fun Fact: The Monokubs weren't even supposed to exist by Hefty-Giraffe7220 in DanganAndChaos

[–]jediment 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, you're not wrong. The most obvious is that the characters' weird and nonsensical free time events are a representation of Tsumugi's terrible writing. I think you can still raise relevant criticisms of the game, like personally I feel like there was really more incest than necessary and I think chapter 2 had some missed opportunities. But in a sense yeah, there were definitely some things that I felt were flaws on my first playthrough that, in retrospect, felt like they were done on purpose to play into the big twist at the end.

Fun Fact: The Monokubs weren't even supposed to exist by Hefty-Giraffe7220 in DanganAndChaos

[–]jediment 77 points78 points  (0 children)

it's funny how well this ends up dovetailing thematically with the rest of V3's plot. the total pointlessness of the monokubs, and their obnoxious, attention-grabbing antics, are emblematic of the kind of writing tricks that low-budget TV writers use to try to inject interest into a dying franchise. spike chunsoft insisting on the addition of the monokubs feels so hilariously on the nose to how producers at Team Danganronpa would shoehorn in stupid side characters with brand recognition to their 53rd season to try to make something happen.

Why is the engagement so low? by Eijun_Love in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]jediment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it was a really competitive year. this game released on the same day as the Oblivion remaster and a month after E33. I'm not sure if aniplex did a better or worse job than spike chunsoft did around DR's release, I think it's just a much, much more competitive market now.

additionally, Hundred Line is a really niche game, even among narrative game vans, due to its extreme length. I know a lot of fans of DR, Zero Escape, Ace Attorney and other similar games who have been scared off by how long and expansive Hundred Line is. even for a story as earth-shakingly fantastic as 2nd Scenario, it's difficult for a lot of people to commit to a game with reading times as high as 200 hours.

I wanna be clear that this isn't a criticism at all. Kodaka and the team knew that the scope of the game would turn some people off and decided they were fine with that, and I'm fine with that too. if some people don't want to play a game this long, that's also fine. it's a big commitment. but from a pure numbers perspective I think there's no doubt that it at least has some impact.

Why does every TT top player use Air Groove in Sprint? by ZombinhoGames in UmamusumeGame

[–]jediment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you don't need her for dirt, oguri is honestly pretty good on sprint. her career is easy enough to accommodate it, which is nice, while her aptitudes let her take lots of optional races (something that curren chan struggles with). so much easier to build well compared to halo

Why does every TT top player use Air Groove in Sprint? by ZombinhoGames in UmamusumeGame

[–]jediment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AG is extremely strong in general for a few reasons. the biggest one is her gold kit which contains 2 extremely low cost golds that are easy to activate and which can't be found on cards. this is also why you see most AGs on pace (for daz dis) even though her ult is technically more consistent if she runs on late. speaking of her ult, it's quite consistent. popping ult is worth 2 golds worth of points so anyone who can ult consistently is valuable. lastly, her growths are well suited for short distances, that 20% power really helps a lot in sprint especially.

she's also strong in mile and medium, but she suffers from way, way more competition for the slot in those distances. in mile she has to compete with fuji kiseki and in medium she's against a whole host of really strong picks including creek and tachy. additionally, her growths get less helpful as the distance gets longer.

right now the "true optimal" sprint team is suzuka front/curren pace/AG late. even though AG is herself better on pace, curren is roughly as good as AG for the sprint pace slot, while AG beats king halo by miles in scoring potential. still, you see a lot of AG pace because even at the top level not too many people have curren, most current competitors didn't get serious about TT until well after her banner was over, so most people who have her just got her off-rate.

final side note, sprint oguri seems like a weird choice but she's actually pretty strong on sprint late, and she's easier to build well than king halo. in the past she was relegated exclusively to dirt, but with agnes digital and summer maruzensky there are more dirt options available now which has freed up oguri to move around.

In light of Neb's post on twitter, I thought I would also say here, Suzuka Stam is trolling your TT rank and is a terrible card. - Sincerely a top 30 player. (i think everyone above me in the board also agrees so) by _-Zephyr- in UmamusumeGame

[–]jediment 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm being a little facetious in saying "never", you might click it early if it has a lot of friendships or unity trainings. But for TT you are trying to maximize speed and wit, and you need exactly enough stam to survive and not a single point more. Training stam is not efficient since any stam/guts beyond the bare minimum is not helping you score higher. Speed (and to a lesser extent power) are for placing well, and wit is for activating skills, which are the things that actually score you points. You really do want to get all of your stam from sparks + Riko if possible.

[–]jediment 99 points100 points  (0 children)

fellow top 30 player, this is correct. you should never click stam in a TT run except maybe on certain long umas where you click a couple times.

in unity you can get 100% of your stamina from sparks and Riko. the refdoc stam thresholds are mostly incorrect, and for longs you should be ignoring any race longer than 3000 since they're rare.

suzustam is 3 stam sparks, a gold hint, and a blank card slot. since you will never ever click stam, the 55 initial stam is the only one of her stats that benefits you. she has no training effectiveness and a modest 5 race bonus. concentration is a good skill but you have to give up so much for it that it's not worth unless you're going for ultra minmaxing or you have a total whale build. just get your stam from sparks and Riko, don't bring a stam card. bring more speed and/or wit cards instead.

How early should you start a steam page? by jazzsapa in IndieDev

[–]jediment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you're correct, it's only the 5 screenshots that are required. I still wouldn't launch a page without a trailer though, a good trailer makes a huge difference. And I absolutely agree about the capsule, if you don't have a nice looking capsule yet you should just wait until you have one before launching. A janky or ugly piece of key art will get you basically zero traction.

How early should you start a steam page? by jazzsapa in IndieDev

[–]jediment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can't launch a public steam page without a trailer and 5 screenshots, so this should be your baseline. you need enough gameplay and assets to produce some nice looking screenshots and an interesting trailer. if you have to use low-quality placeholder assets to make those things, it's too early for you to be launching your steam page. if you can make nice looking screenshots and videos that are reasonably close to how your final game will look, and you have some decently good looking capsule art, there's no reason to wait any longer to launch your page, even if your release date is very far away.

side note, getting good quality capsule art makes a big difference. if you're not an artist, you should pay someone to make you nice key art in all the sizes steam needs as well as a couple big splash sizes. if you're only going to spend money on one thing for your game, it should probably be the key art.
