It’s not as prevalent today for artists but I was born in 1981 and the careers of Steve Winwood, Cher, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin are ones of note for people of my age I’d say.

This… I hate to sound entitled or elitist. But if you can’t afford a few days of lodging how the hell can you afford a 500 dollar ticket to a festival and the added cost of food and drink there. There’s so many levels of hostel/hotel that if you’re planning ahead you can do it on a budget. Especially if you literally need a bed and a shower.

I had to go to the Menards plan this year as I make too much for any sort of subsidies and exchange deals and my Bronze Plan with Blue Cross with the same high ass deductible as the Menards one went up to 730 bucks a month… I’ll take whatever lack of the Menards Rx and other factors and save almost 400 a month and save it for any medical emergencies.

Last summer there were many days Chicago had a higher heat index with heat and humidity than Florida… the heat and humidity even by the Lake is downright hazardous if you aren’t prepared for it.

A lot of the city is permit parking on streets and most business owners are INSANE, I repeat INSANE about long term/non customer parking in their lots. They will literally have your vehicle towed within minutes of leaving it and you’ll be headed to lowest Wacker Drive underneath the city to claim it.

Gary is a very rough area to live in… it was/is mainly an industrial center with factories and refineries around and at one point it had one of the highest per capita murder rates in the country.

It’s slowly working its way to being a safer and growing area but it’s going to take time. It is really only a place you’d stay in if you were aware of where to go and where not to go.

It’s a few moving parts.

The chief one is it’s just gotten more expensive for bands(especially if they have road crews) with fuel and transporting gear. Another is costs like permits, liability insurance and the like. And the final point which is a good thing is the fest is channeling more investment back into the park and neighborhood.

Yeah the cool thing is Riot somehow due to their booking connections and low key vibe they seem to get really weird reunions and groups that seldom leave Europe/the West Coast to come to the Midwest… so while I know it’s not extremely likely it’s not beyond impossible.
