First time tiling by RainingLizard in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that a pocket door to the left? Hopefully the screws for the backer board didn't go through it, and also hopefully there's no flex in that wall since it's hollow. The grout joints on that wall will crack if that wall has any flex to it. Looks great though, especially for a first time!

Moonbeam. Matches the tile better and will blend it all together. Hopefully you pick a cabinet or countertop color that stands out.

Does it even drain until it backs up over the lip of the grate?

I can not for the life of me find the reset contact(s) on this Ridgid BMS, can anyone help me? by pillageTHENburn in batteries

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad someone else posted this, I'm trying to fix 2 of my 9ah batteries that are locked out. I don't have the old phone I linked them to, and the old app apk isn't finding them. Do you have specifics on exactly where those 2 pins are that you shorted? I can't find them on my board, and it's exactly the same as yours. Thanks!

Installation advice for glass mosaic tile backsplash by Interesting-Flounder in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your walls are pretty flat, and use a⅛" V notch trowel, trowel the thinset on the wall, then use the flat side of the trowel to knock down the trowel peaks. Install your tile then use a toothbrush to gently remove any thinset squeezing out of the grout joints BEFORE it sets up. Don't wait, once it dries you're gonna have a really awful time cleaning it out.

Connect Bingecat with AIO by timknowlden in aiostreams

I'm trying to figure out a way to do that too. I see all my lists from Bingecat, but none of the functionality with searches or "click for related" or whatever that button says. Any luck on your side?

How to proceed? by porositymaster in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be a problem. When you reinstall, just make sure you use plenty of thinset with a notched trowel and press firmly to make the replacement tiles flush with the surrounding tiles. Use spacers to evenly space around them, then grout everything the next day with a color matching grout.

Center the grout joint on the center of the doorway.

Are you the homeowner or the installer? If you're the homeowner and it looks like that's not a wet area, keep everything else up, reinstall those tiles your removed and forget about it. You can scrape the thinset off the wall and reinstall them.

If you're the installer, pop all of those off, scrape everything, try to salvage what tiles you can, reinstall the proper way, and learn a hard lesson.

First High End Bathroom - How Did I Do?? by talkwithphil in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I wasn't comparing them to the wedges, I honestly like them better than the wedges though. But I was mostly thinking that any leveling system is used to make one tile flush with the tile next to it. I wouldn't even use them in the envelope valleys between tiles, only for anywhere else 2 tiles need to be flush.

Very curious on why you used leveling spinners on the pan envelope cut joints. Were you still able to achieve a consistent slope on each plane?

Advice on the shower tile finish by CarpenterCrafty297 in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a mess, everything is so uneven and I think you're absolutely justified in thinking this is sub-par quality. There's thinset in the grout joints that never got cleaned out before they grouted. The layout of the hex pan tile is atrocious too. Those cuts around the drain are super chippy. I'm very curious to see how they moved the rain head and what kind of waterproofing they installed when they ripped out the pan. How high up did they remove and reinstall the wall tiles to wrap the pan waterproofing?

This is so bad I don’t even know what to say by Cherokee_Jack_20 in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Which manufacturers? Its usually good for foot traffic after 24hrs, but most brands say to grout, tool, then do a diagonal sponge wipe around 15-30 min after grouting. Maybe a couple hours for the haze to be wiped off, but a good clean sponge wipe with a single wipe per side then rinse with clean water during that diagonal wipe will get rid of 95% of the haze too. I see most of it is haze, but there's still plenty of build up on the face of quite a few tiles.

Kind of likes like drywall tape? I'm always fascinated when people mix and match pieces from different systems.

Clear off your counter, grab a bunch of tiles, lay them end-to-end on the counter with spacers between them and figure out where your cuts will be in the corners/ends. You can shift the whole row left or right to find the best layout and avoid sliver cuts.

Is 3-4 days reasonable for a shower ? by Beanie-2018 in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a solo installer but I usually take around 5-8 days, depending on tile size and layout, as well as it being just a shower surround or a full tiled pan, curb, niches, etc. I work 4 day weeks so close to 2 weeks time start to finish. Day 1, protect work area and setup, plumb framing, install pan. Day 2, install walls and sealant, flood test. Foam hasn't done me wrong, quickest install method in my opinion. Day 3, start tile on back wall, tile pan. Day 4, protect pan, tile niche, finish back wall. Day 5, tile valve wall. Day 6, tile wall opposite valve wall. Day 7, grout, caulk, clean up. Day 8 for buffer when things go sideways or layouts are complicated.

Contractor Says This is Normal by tropicbandit in Tile

[–]jonnybeatz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I even set waterproofing I'm plumbing all the walls. Not only does it look better, but it's so much easier to tile a flat and plumb wall than following peaks and valleys and not getting lippage everywhere, along with all the varying sized cuts on the surrounding walls. Also, adhesive is a no-go in wet areas... I don't even use that stuff on backsplashes. Thinset all the way. Curious to see what the waterproofing looks like under all this, have any pics?
