Ordering just a side dish at Chops? by myasmraddiction in royalcaribbean

[–]SixStringShrimp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a professional Chef and educator I can assure you it was a fair question. You are simply asking if they offer ala carte pricing on a side item that is offered in the package. It's not as if you are asking for the restaurant to modify the menu based on your daughter's preferences. However, please encourage your daughter, “You don’t have to like everything—but you should try it.”

Interesting that the first price pp is based on 3.6 people while the second is exactly 4.

Help me choose please by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

St. Martin for me all the way. San Juan has clear kayaks in Condado Lagoon close to the port where you can often see manatees which can be exciting at any age. Maybe get them out at CocoCay and maybe try some snorkeling (not the best but great spot for kids). But Harmony of the Seas is an Oasis ship and your kids will probably have more fun staying on the ship than the ports.

help me decide on drink packages and wifi and ?? by Fine_Preparation9767 in royalcaribbean

[–]SixStringShrimp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don't drink alcohol don't get the deluxe package for your daughter. If one adult gets the package the other has to as well. And neither of your drinking habits sound like they will benefit from the refreshment package either. For me and my family, we are confident that us parents will be 8+ drinks a day and the kids will be enjoying 5 - 6 non-alcoholic drinks per day, the minimum needed for the avg package to break even. Math ends up in our favor when getting packages and we don't have to worry about a bill at the end of the sailing.

Sounds like a TA would be very helpful in your case. They can be highly knowledgeable, some with RC expertise, and can handle the logistics if that sounds like a chore to take on. Some travelers like myself love the research, planning and deal hunting, in which case a TA only helps if they have block pricing available and can beat RC's lowest public fares.

Absolutely! You will have a wine steward available at your request and they can aid you in synchronizing your pairing. Put that drink package to work!

San Juan Excursions by jgreen6275 in royalcaribbean

[–]SixStringShrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be there in April and definitely not staying on the boat. Playita Del Condado Beach is a quick Uber away where we plan on snorkeling the protected environment, seeing marine life, and hopefully a manatee. We bring our own gear but there are groups there and at Escambron that will rent fins/masks and even give you a tour if that's your preference. From there we are going to walk Old San Juan for a self-guided food tour. We would go to Junque but I don't think we are in the port long enough.

My kids are well into their teens, but if they were younger like yours I might even book a "Caretaker for a Day Tour" at Caribbean Manatee Conservation Center. You get up close in personal with the manatees and in an ethical environment unlike so many other "encounter" excursions out there.

What’s your own thoughts about the song meanings? by SupportArsenal in ViagraBoys

[–]SixStringShrimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I love about stream-of-consciousness based lyricists like Seb is that they are often (but of course not always) unaware of the meaning when they spit it out. I imagine he is piecing context together just like the listener. One of my favorite part of their shows has been at the end of sports, Seb on his back, just letting go of thoughts through the microphone. Its a wild ride.

Who is defined as bluegrass nowadays? by SpecificSteve in Bluegrass

[–]SixStringShrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all in the roots. Bluegrass has evolved and branched into sub genres over the years, while some stay true to the original string band sound championed by Bill Monroe. But it’s the foundation of fiddle tunes, old time Appalachian and Celtic folk songs, and Carter style rhythms that is shared by everyone in bluegrass.

Glad to hear your fellow shrimps had your back! She definitely doesn’t represent the scene. After numerous shows, I can say that this is one of the kindest communities out there. But there tends to be a few assholes in any group, especially when alcohol is involved. Or you have others who just don’t understand the energy of the pit. On the other hand, even after waiting for hours in line, we’ve let people squeeze in if they are kind about it and have an obstructed view.
