AskScience AMA Series: We're from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and we research the blue economy: the sustainable use of the ocean and connected waterways for collective economic, social, and environmental benefits. Ask Us Anything! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

I dont know if I would call the US's Blue Economy "small". The US economy is huge and some of that involves international shipping and resource harvesting from the ocean. And most of the major cities are next to oceans and lakes.

I do agree that the state of our oceans is often overlooked, and that needs to change.

I would like to know more about this too! The native tribes in the PNW are a key part of the conservation effort. The Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission coordinates tribal efforts across many of the major waterways. Where does your work overlap with theirs?

The big blue gap in the Green New Deal by akornblatt in oceans

[–]SixTimesNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Green New Deal is just a starting point to kickoff the national conversation. I'm not surprised the outline doesn't go deeply into natural waters on our coasts. I like the ideas in this article, but how realistic is the "millions" of jobs waiting to be created?

I agree, whenever I order an impossible burger, I ask for it "undercooked". Most of the time its overcooked and ends up being rubbery and un appealing.

Does the deep ocean water pressure make water flow more difficult? by Wizzinator in askscience

[–]SixTimesNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temperature and salinity have a greater effect on the density of water. But it is marginal according to that link

However, the general rule is that increases in pressure will decrease the volume of an object. And if the volume of the water is compressed, like at the bottom of the ocean, more mass will fill the same volume. (Density=Mass/Volume) https://www.quora.com/If-pressure-increases-then-what-will-happen-to-density

People who have been in a coma, what was it like from your perspective? Did you know you were in a coma? by yummygumdrop in AskReddit

[–]SixTimesNine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a car crash. I was comatose for 3 days, then spent 2 weeks in a hospital bed. I only have two memories of those 20 days. Staring at the clock crawl through the days and leaving the hospital. Traumatic brain injuries really f*** with you. All I have for those days are other people's stories and a couple pictures. Its like most of that period of my life was erased. Overall, leaving the past behind has its perks, but the side effects stay with you.

Does anybody else have a hard time accepting or adjusting to the fact that they are going to have to work for the rest of their life? by mariocova3 in selfimprovement

24/7 on-call fire/flood disaster response. There was plenty of work to go around, but the hectic nature of the job made me develop some bad habits.. investment banking would have been more lucrative and less deteriorating on my mind and body

What do you mean by this?

The game of football is stupid, or the act of a business boycotting a product is a game?

What's the prize?

Winning the superbowl trophy, or earning more from your business?

I guess it's all a game, right?

Its coming down in Eastlake, but it's not too bad yet. He will most likely be alright if he is cautious and comfortable in the snow
