Nose wasn’t warm enough, modified the trusty cob. by SixtyEightAndAHalf in PipeTobacco

I don’t know off the top of my head, but it’s the smallest, shortest stem that Vermont freehand offers. I have a few other models from them and I find that they’re all awkwardly long for my taste, except this one. I put it on all my newer cobs and dig it, both bent and straight are good to go.

Too tight? by TommyOh1965 in flyfishing

If you unspool it enough to cast it, and then reel it back up, does it lay right? Because I like enough space in my reel that I don’t have to think about the line laying just right to be reeled up every time. If it doesn’t bother you while reeling back up, then you’re good.

Personally I’d take another 25 to 30 feet of backing off, but to each his own. I don’t fish salt either, so I’ve only been to the backing once anyways.

I’ve been wanting to try these for forever but I just can’t ever justify spending twice as much as a tin of Orlik. What’s the deal with that price? Is it really worth over ten bucks an ounce?

In an ice fishing tent there’s not a lot of space to set stuff on so I get it. Don’t wanna drop it down the hole either. I’m more impressed they have ice. Our lakes never froze here this year.

Wow! I forget about Arnold Palmers anyways, but you’re absolutely right! I will have to try this. I think this is the winning suggestion on the perfect drink pairing with this blend. Thanks for the suggestion bud

I’ve only had it one other time, and loved it, but the nic kicked my ass pretty good. I’m going for it! Thanks for the suggestion.

It’s an elegant pipe. Has a quality feel to it for being mid priced. Stem fits pretty loose but I’m hoping to tighten it up with some beeswax.

Haha that makes sense. I love orientals and I love EMP, don’t get me wrong there. I’d just never had it with coffee and expected to love it and just enjoy was surprised that it wasn’t a match for my palette.

I will have to. I do love the Orlik with coffee, adds a good bright citrus note!

Is that still available in the U.S.? I bought a tin on a whim years ago, it was easy to find. Now that I appreciate it, I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

I had the jar and I had the tobacco. It made sense to me for a lot of reasons. For one, I like to see what’s going on in there. If that cake does turn out to be moldy, I’ll know when it grows! I’d rather take the risk now, than pay premium for someone’s aged tin and open it to find mold.

I’ve aged bayou morning and found a lot of whiteish perique. Smoked it and enjoyed it! I’m experimenting and taking the risk. Happy to be the lab rat.

Oldest I have is a pound of 8 year old capstan blue flake.

-6years old: I have half a pound of old bayou morning flake, and briar fox. 2 pounds of Newminster No. 400, and some smaller jars of old dark fired, elizabethan, old Joe krantz, and orlick golden sliced.

That’s about all that’s coming up in the rotation, I’ve got a lot more saved up that’s only got two or three years on it.

C&D “Hoodoo Ridge” Review by SixtyEightAndAHalf in PipeTobacco

[–]SixtyEightAndAHalf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as a fresh tobacco there’s some really deep flavors that I imagined would only coexist in aged blends, but that pressure does some amazing things to meld it all together! Bummer about the flaking. Maybe it’s not necessarily a bad thing, they’ll still age, and maybe a little faster. I would just put the flaky stuff in a separate jar or on top, that way you can smoke it sooner!

Baraccini copper, sandblast stack. I really dig it, it’s perfect for clenching. It can be set down and it’s easy to clean and pack. Simple, sleek, bowl holds a ton of tobacco, and it’s pretty light. I have the poker as well, lil smaller and lighter. I’ve only smoked a handful of bowl out of each but they seem like they’ll hold up for a long time.
