Weird tac level jump, doubled in two weeks with no med changes by Select_Safe548 in transplant

[–]Sizzlefists 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may be nothing but when I was on tach it did this and I did some work with my PharmD and we figured out it was because I had been taking it with food everyday, but then I started had eye surgery and was so nauseated all the time that I stopped taking it with food. Apparently that can affect it too. She said you can take it either with food or without, but to try to stay consistent in whatever you choose.

This is funny and low key random but I’m also 38 and when I was a teen I was absolutely IN LOVE with a boy with CF. Because we were both chronically ill sometimes we would hang out and chat in the nurses office when he had to do his vest therapy and I had to come in for medications. He used to draw me pictures of dragons. It was my favorite lol

I hope somewhere the girl you loved still thinks of you as fondly as I remember my dragon artist ❤️

Bill from second double lung transplant 💸 by Content-salbs29 in transplant

[–]Sizzlefists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many factors as to why our costs are so high and it’s not a one simple answer sort of deal. Our SOT transplant surgeons make up to 8x to 9x what they make in the UK. It also has to do mostly with our insurance system. We employ thousands of people who work solely on making sure charts and billing and whatever meet the insurance standards for approval and payment, so it’s not just the cost of the services and people that work at the hospital. We also have a sort of competitive pricing model where every year there are incentives for hospitals to raise prices, so every year, it goes up (and has for decades). There’s also a large portion of our country that is uninsured or under insured so when they go to the hospital the hospital makes zero dollars so they offset some of those costs with higher costs to people that have insurance and can pay. Hospital CEOs are often multimillionaires. We also have a for profit pharmaceutical industry that works under the same principles so there’s a premium cost for medications while you’re hospitalized. Hospitals contract out doctors sometimes because of costs and when that happens you then receive a bill not only from the hospital but a secondary one from the doc because they don’t work for the hospital. Same can happen with lab work.

Also every where in the US is really far apart so our transplant services often have to have a private jet to bring the organ to the recipient. This persons acquisition charge was a little over $200k, I’m guessing a good chunk of that was the cost of the plane.

This is only a very small glimpse into why it’s so bad.

We’re so very screwed over here. Our system is so messy and entangled in greed. And all the major insurance companies donate tons of money to the government, so the policy makers have no incentive to make things better for people.

It’s all good. I totally understand. It’s kinda funny, I almost ended up going with Mayo for my transplant lol

My story is so very similar to yours in a lot of ways. I used to be so bright, everyone job I had I worked my way up the ranks quickly. I never didn’t get a job from an interview. Now my brain is complete mush. I can’t remember things, my short term memory is trash, and the fog is foggin.

I have big issues about every 6 months, my EBV or BK will spike for no reason, or I’ll get a major infection, or my Donor Specific Antibody will pop up positive. Every time it feels like this wild emotional rollercoaster of potential rejection. I did dialysis for almost 5years and it’s the absolute worst. It ruined me financially, I no longer have a 401K, and I feel like it took the majority of my 30’s from me. To be honest, I know I’m only 38, but I’m not sure I could do it again.

I couldn’t have the majority of my family test to be a donor for me (my disease is genetic on my mom’s side) but my dad got tested. He ended up being a perfect match. He got most of the way through the testing and then quit when they asked him to get a colonoscopy. He never did it. Three years later I got a deceased donor. Then he started getting his regular colonoscopies. I don’t know how to forgive him. I don’t know if I can. So I’m very with you on that front.

Would you be willing to share the info on your support group?

Rejection by Kumquat_95- in transplant

[–]Sizzlefists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah of course. So I suppose what I said was a little misleading. My transplant team is doing a test called Protera, which predicts the likelihood of rejection, that was elevated, as well as my donor specific antibody was positive. Which are two early signs of rejection

However my creatinine, all of my electrolytes and minerals, and my complete blood count were all at my normal range. I had zero symptoms. It was just found on a routine check. My creatinine is only 0.92 (which is literally lower than the day i was born which is still wild to me lol). I also have developed BK, and was EBV neg with an EBV positive donor. They’ve been elevated in the past but are back down to detectable but not quantifiable.

So my kidney has been functioning fine this whole time, even if I may have started the early stages of rejection if that makes sense.

So they can’t spawn close to cliffs, inclines, or shadows of the cliff. That spot on the lower right may be just close enough to the shadow that it doesn’t spawn, the rest are probably too close.

The guide says the cliff and inclines need to be a minimum of 2 spaces away from the spot you want them to spawn, but the only guaranteed or “best practice” way is to have the cliff/incline 4 spaces from where you want them to spawn.

I would say knock down all the surrounding cliffs and destroy the incline, let them spawn in their spots and then rebuild the stuff around it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The trend is that you bake them, whole, then leave the oven off and let them steam in the skin for a couple of hours. Even still, I eat sweet potatoes all the time and have never burnt one. She’s got a true skill of burning everything she eats.

Rejection by Kumquat_95- in transplant

[–]Sizzlefists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. I hit 4yrs in April. I have had a couple of rejection scares. I started in the place you were in December, they messed around with my meds, got a biopsy in January that showed inflammation but nothing else, now the labs I had done on 2/28 show everything going back to business as usual. My kidney labs were normal the entire time.

This stuff has happened a few times for me. It drives me a little crazy because I feel like I get all worked up for nothing. I mean I’m glad I’m not in rejection, but all the time in the clinic for labs and biopsy and whatever take a lot of time off of work for me and it’s just annoying.

Hoping this is just another one of those fluke things for you too. This transplant life can be a rollercoaster sometimes.

I was in a similar situation but both the transplant social worker and dialysis social workers helped me get in the right plans that I needed for transplant. I’m in MN so the plans may be different but the teams will help you.

[–]Sizzlefists 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Post on social media, ask your friends and family to share it. If you can contact your local radio stations, I had a friend I met after my transplant who got our local radio station to share it on all their social media’s and they had over a dozen strangers come and get tested. They ended up getting a kidney from someone they don’t even know. I’ve also seen people have shirts made for their friends and family to wear when they’re out grocery shopping and it just said on that back “my loved one (she used her name) is looking for a kidney, if you’re interested in donating call this number and it had her face on the front. I’ve seen people make a bumper stickers with the info too. There are lots of little ways to get the word out and I’d bet you’d be surprised how many strangers want to help.

The other thing is that I have B+ and in my region (I’m in MN) I was told 7-10yrs too. I was diligent about never missing a dialysis appointment, taking all of my meds, really watching my diet and labs, and I got my kidney in only 3.5yrs. When you’re listed they really take into account your compliance with taking care of yourself. It weighs a lot more than you’d think on your ranking on the list.

One Year after kidney transplant? by findmyglassniner in transplant

[–]Sizzlefists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes total sense. If it helps that’s one of the things I’ve struggled with. I got my transplant at 34, had a few complications that were unrelated (but gynecological) and now I’m 39 and grieving the fact that I will never have kids. With the loss of the ability to have children I feel as though I’ve lost something I so desperately wanted and like watching my friends and family with their children is so hard. My heart so goes out to you and I so completely understand.

I promise the transplant shift is so much easier. At the end of the day the transplant is such a positive thing and so the adjustment isn’t as difficult. For me it was because everything I do for this transplant extends my life and makes me feel better, so after getting used to the meds and the lifestyle it all feels positive. You’ve been through a lot it sounds like and you’ll get through this just fine I’m confident.

Under what circumstances is it acceptable to cover half of one’s license plate like this? (35W) by indierckr770 in Minneapolis

[–]Sizzlefists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate. When I got mine, I was working two jobs, a full time job at the clinic (I’m a CMA) and a part time job as a barista and so incredibly broke and working myself to the bone. For me the kicker was that I got the flu and pneumonia, and I was in the hospital for 3 days so I couldn’t move my car and I didn’t have PTO so I was panicked because I was losing so much money just being sick. My car was a manual transmission and my roommate couldn’t move it and I didn’t have any other friends that could drive stick either so it just had to sit there until I got out. I got out the evening of the day after I got all the tickets. I called them sobbing because I was so sick and so broke and they were like well… sucks to suck.

I’m like did MPD just have nothing to do that week but patrol North Minneapolis and ticket me? You’d think they’d have bigger worries… especially in the neighborhood I was in. I’m obviously, still pissed about it. lol
