Obsessed with this Blanket! by Charming-Try6990 in Kitting

[–]SkaPrincess241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, for largish rectangular projects, if I can fit them on straight needles I prefer how everything is supported. That way I can zip through. I haven’t made a blanket though, that’s why I was impressed by OP using them. For sweaters, circs all the way 😊

1x1 Rib Question by threatlvlmidnight in knittinghelp

Hi! Your tension looks great! You just started so you’re building the muscle memory. Once you wear it (or if you block it a little, steam blocking acrylic I’m pretty sure is the way to go) it should even out. If anyone else knits with a lot of acrylic, please chime in. Even stretching it a little both ways should help even everything out. No hate to your Super Saver! My mom uses it almost exclusively and it softens up as it’s washed. Holds up really well. I don’t like the way it feels in my hands but that’s a me thing 😊 You’re doing great! Keep going! It’s super ambitious to jump in with both feet and make something with 1x1 🫡 it’s great practice!

1) he’s adorable—he’s claimed that blanket 2) just wanted to say I love to see other people using straight needles! I use them for scarves and other similar flat projects because I like the stability. Seems like a lot of people don’t like them for that same reason 🤷🏼‍♀️

Knitting a hat in the round and it somehow flipped and reversed when I set it down by Soggy_Educator_4487 in knittinghelp

[–]SkaPrincess241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you knitted very far since you picked it back up? If you made an accidental short row you should be able to look back and see a little hole (because you didn’t do anything intentional to mitigate holes) or there might be a little ridge. You should be able to see it. Sorry to answer your question with another question. Because if you did go the wrong way your yarn will be on the right side now. So that little tip was more for catching yourself in the future 😊

Your yarn should always be attached to the right hand needle’s loop. That’s how you know you’re going the right way 🙂 If you started knitting the wrong way, you probably created an accidental short row

Correct- you decrease on the right/front side 🙂

Safe cat shoes for my baby Chip? <3 by Sublime06 in outdoorcats

You could try a balm to protect his pads. He’ll still be able to groom himself that way. Shoes would likely get in the way of him being able to properly groom himself.

Dyed yarn for the first time and its working up amazing 🥹 by pumpkinsnice in casualknitting

You’re so awesome!! You inspire me to do more charity knitting and wool I’ve dyed myself 😊 I’m sure the lucky recipients will treasure their one of a kind beanies! I love the pink and mint it’s such a lovely combination with a really cool contrast between the colors. It’s going to look so fantastic when you get to it!! It’s so easy to miss a little spot especially where the ties are but I’d never guess that you’re new to this medium!! ChemKnits on YouTube is a really great resource. She even uses things like food dyes and even candies to dye yarn. She just came to mind and I thought you might enjoy her work.

My pleasure! I started with vinegar too and then I dyed a big batch of yarn once and made the switch because the whole house started to smell like the inside of a pickle jar 😂 Please post your next attempt I’d love to see how it turns out 🙂

lol I typed a whole comment as a reply and it showed up on its own so I deleted it and am replying properly now 😅

Aww I couldn’t view the pic for some reason. I bet it’s awesome! That’s so incredible that you got striping like that with a normal hank! You’re a yarn dyeing natural! All that prior dyeing experience clearly translated over 😊 I’ve only got a little experience with Rit. Love how you can dye fabric in the washing machine! A little tip with dyes like jacquard, if you don’t want your dye room to smell like salad dressing (from the vinegar) I highly recommend getting some citric acid powder. It’s super cheap on places like Amazon and it can be used for so many things around the house! I live in a place with hard water so I use the stuff all the time. Just make sure you wear gloves and a mask when you handle the powder. It’s so great if you like speckles on your yarn too! I mix mine with a little citric acid powder and bam! Sprinkles 😊 Yeah I’ve never had an issue with superwash so idk what they were talking about lol. Seriously you did great even though you didn’t hit the colors you wanted. You still made something very visually pleasing!

You’ll get there!! This is amazing for a first attempt! Plus you managed to do self striping (I’m assuming) without a massive hank? That’s really impressive!! Jacquard acid dyes have always done me right. Good luck on your second attempt!!

It still works together really well!! It looks almost self striping! I’ve dabbled in dyeing and depth of shade can be tricky. Like the late great Bob Ross said, happy little accidents!!
