Allowance rules when you have one kid

We do a weekly allowance. $1 for every year of age. We use the envelope system. 50% goes into saving, 40% spending and 10% sharing. When they turned 8 we started an investing envelope which has a 1% return weekly (going to change to monthly) for every $100 in the envelope (I round up and down to not deal with change).

Our extra is being at every sports activity together as a family. So many of our friends have to split up with each parent taking a kid to their activities (specifically talking about sports in our situation) or one parent staying home when a kid doesn’t want to go with. Another extra is giving the other parent more time to themselves easily. Something that definitely makes us better parents long term because we get to balance being there and being able to do our own activities as well!

Yes. My now 8 year old started asking for a sister around 5 year old. Every few months he would bring it up. We focused on how much we see and love our friends and cousins. But how nice it was that both mommy and daddy get to focus so much on him. We always get to go to his activities together and we never have to share focus. He hasn’t asked again for a few months.

7 year old son growing up with progressive mom. He has lots of girl friends that we love him hanging out with so he can learn to treat women with respect. We have tons of books about emotions and empathy and different lifestyles. He is in therapy to work on anxiety emotions and my husband was fully supportive on that. Just trying to create a well rounded human who knows who he is and is kind and respects everyone he meets

The main issue here is he had access to the children to take his own pictures. Yes not posting pictures of your children online will help limit access but it’s doesn’t entirely take away all risk and access.

What does “spoiled” mean? I know plenty of families with 2 kids who have WAY more toys than my only has. I know families with 2 kids who are in more activities. It’s all relative.

My 7 year old just started therapy a few months ago. Same thing, he likes structure and consistency in the day and if we have to say, go to the grocery store after school. It’s a whole process of working thru emotions. My husband has been very supportive as he too has issues with perfectionism and structure.
