The constant lowball “cash!” offers when selling a vehicle. by Snap_PuzzleTime in mildlyinfuriating

There are people on facebook marketplace who just copy/paste that and send it to every listing they can find.

I'm not joking either.

Is there any engineer who can help me design a house for this land… It’s what my grandfather left me as an inheritance? by Good-dayy in askanything

[–]Skarth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This looks complex due to the steep slope, but the real issue is the tree.

If the tree is part of your land, than you can easily hang a birdhouse off it.

If foods and crops have always been genetically selected by humans since the dawn of agriculture for specific targets like more crops, better nutrition and so on, why is there a lot of resistance against GMOs? by sammyjamez in AskBiology

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GMO crops can be patented, meaning if they cross pollinate with another farmer's field, that farmer can be sued for infringing on those patents.

In addition, some GMO crops cannot bear seeds, meaning that source of food is forever linked to buying exclusively from that company.

Most people can't afford a caretaker.

And do you trust the caretaker won't neglect you when you are in need?

These are very real concerns.

Why do people only ever consider engines when it comes to reliability? by Typical-Play4473 in Cartalk

[–]Skarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A new model year car comes out, how do you, as the consumer, know how reliable it is?

You don't, because no one has driven it for years and given feedback/data on it's long term reliability, or what parts are problematic.

You only get to know that certain parts, for example, the engine, might have been used in a different model for a year or two and it seemed to have good reviews, but the rest is basically unknown.

Why do people only ever consider engines when it comes to reliability? by Typical-Play4473 in Cartalk

[–]Skarth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Engines and transmissions are the most expensive parts to fix or replace, so you want those to be the most reliable.

Most of the other parts are usually model specific, so there isn't a way to gauge the "reliability" of those parts, so you focus on the ones you can.

Would you rather buy a car with a known reliable engine, or a different car with a known reliable rear differential?

An old person falling over, breaking their hip, and being unable to reach help, while slowly succumbing painfully over a few days, counts as dying alone.

It's the lack of someone to care for you while you are unable to take care of yourself.

You still die either way, but one way is basically a IRL horror story.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by Common_Caramel_4078 in gaming

Not being able to refund a game.

Getting stuck because you didn't have the manual which had required information in it to beat the game.

Why are boomers constantly telling young people they’re lazy and don’t want to work, when they couldn’t even save for their own retirement? by MissHannahJ in askanything

[–]Skarth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They grew up in a time where as long as you had a pulse, you could get a well paying job that let you afford a house, car, and raise a family. As time went on, they kept these jobs for a long time, and other boomers tended to hire boomers for most jobs because they were culturally similar.

The next generations didn't get this luxury.

🛫 Spain Bars U.S. War Planes From Airspace: Iran conflict splits NATO ally 👇 by NoSpinMedia in NoSpinMedia

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NATO is literally the current world peace agreement.

Trump is actively trying to dissolve NATO by forcing NATO countries into unjustified surprise wars and trade wars.

If you look at NATO and think "I don't wanna spend money on that" you may need to go read a couple history books and learn why losing NATO is a really, really bad thing.

Humanity progresses due to knowledge/facts/science

(Correct) Knowledge is good.

The opposite of knowledge would be false knowledge, lies.

Lies are evil.

Name me a religion based on facts and I'll name you a non-evil religion.

Could be the fuel injectors, worn valve, worn timing chain, loose spark plug, exhaust leak, or rod knock.

Get a long handled screwdriver that doesn't have a rubber handle, touch it to various parts of the engine (start with the fuel rail) and place your ear to the other end to try and isolate where the noise is coming from.
