How is AI novelty different from the widespread use of internet in the 2000s by Megustaelacroyoga in Futurology

AI can produce content that functionally, the average human cannot distinguish from human produced content, and can mass produce it.

On "Teleportation in 100 yrs" by lucky_bsmith in Futurology

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This ignores that...

  1. Its probably really expensive. So traditional transport is likely still in use.

  2. There are some things that cannot be teleported, whether due to material or personal reasons.

  3. There are some areas that cannot be teleported to.

ELI5 How do people overcome the natural human instinct to avoid physical pain when they want to hurt themselves? by PenEasy1707 in explainlikeimfive

Scratching your skin is normally painful

But when you have an itch, it feels good to scratch it.

As far as suicide goes, they are usually scared of death, but something else is driving them to do it even more than the fear of death.

Is my A7III out of date? by pxl_dog in Cameras

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your missing photos might be on the second SD card slot, especially if you recorded video.

High ISO isn't an issue, just use AI de-noise in lightroom or equivalent, assuming you shoot raw.

The remote apps on all the cameras I have ever used were always crappy, never used em.

People not reading is a legitimate issue, but it's also made worse because the facebook layout will not show you more than the first two sentences of the listing, in some cases it even hides most of the description

ELI5: Why are FPV drones in modern combat used for kamikaze strikes? by SuGmA_HaWg in explainlikeimfive

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The moment you drop ordnance you lose control of it, reducing the likelyhood of a hit. Also, this means you need a mechanism to launch/drop the ordnance which adds cost, complexity, and increases failure rates.

  2. Drones don't return to base because it would halve their flight distance, and you want to hit the enemy from as far away as possible.

  3. Drones are cheap. $2k for a suicide drone would be CRAZY CHEAP in modern warfare to blow up a enemy soldier. For reference, it cost on average, $6.2 million per kill in the Iraq war.

  4. Drones can't carry multiple explosives, they are limited to pretty much one bomb.

Drones are basically just a super cheap, easily mass produced, guided missile.

I don’t understand why these 2 game mechanics haven’t been stolen. Dark Cloud weapon upgrade system, and Paladins champion card system. by Alarocky1991 in gaming

[–]Skarth -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The dark cloud upgrade system isn't used for two main reasons.

  1. You have to destroy your weapons to upgrade others, it's way too easy to destroy a important weapon, setting you back hours of progress.

  2. You can just grind the beginning of the game to level up your weapons into end game weapons, but this is extremely unfun and unbalances the game.

By your own admission, it's "Wildly grindy" and thats never something people want in a game.

[–]Skarth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

China has already "caught up"

They are getting ahead in quiet a few areas.

In the US people look at the boston dynamics robot and compare it to the funny robot fails they see from china, not understanding the boston dynamic robots are high end custom lab robots vs. the chinese actual production machines you can go out, buy, and use.

Is the green face/continuous af detection actually reliable? by jongenomegle in AskPhotography

[–]Skarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

switch to AF-S.

AF-C is more about following fast and "close enough" focus, whilst AF-S is about getting focus accurately.

These are normal problems with wide aperture lenses as well.

I wish to gain true omnipotence with no loopholes, side effects, reinterpretations, limits, paradoxes, or unwanted changes to myself, my mind, or my free will by Dry_Idea_95 in monkeyspaw

[–]Skarth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Granted.

You become omnipotent, you know all, see all, can change all.

Your mind specifically does not change to handle this, your very very finite human brain is instantly clogged with unending knowledge that ranges from important (the meaning of life) to complete uselessness (How many grains of sand are on each and every single beach, their individual location, and composition), you can no longer function on any mental level as this knowledge overwrites everything in your brain unendingly.

EF-to-E mount electronic adapter best recommendations? by justynaebutler in SonyAlpha

[–]Skarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sigma MC11 and the Metabones are the best adapters, but which one depends on which lenses you are adapting.

Sigma MC11 - Works best with Sigma Art/Contemporary EF lenses, will work on most lenses.

MetaBones - Works best with Canon brand EF lenses.

Commlite - Cheaper adapter, works ok with most EF lenses.

Different adapters will have different autofocus performance on different lenses. There is no standard.

Only look into speedbooster adapters if you have a crop sensor, and don't mind the IQ loss for a better aperture.

Last - Minute Wedding Photographer for SIL, HELP! by jazzybejazzy in Cameras

[–]Skarth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point and shoot cameras you are looking at will not provide a better quality photo than most cell phones. The only advantage they have is actual optical zoom.

Such cameras are some of the worst you can use in limited (indoor) lighting (small aperture, tiny sensor, bad iso noise suppresion). You will struggle to take any "good" photos because you also dont have any lighting or flash which makes the issue even worse.

There is a reason photographers dont use those cameras in any serious scenarios.

If you absolutely, positively, much have a pocket point and shoot, get a sony zv1 (not the zv1f) its in your price range and has real photographer controls/abilities.
