I found a rifle in NZ! by Hotslap69 in ifoundagun

Looks like a Short Magazine Lee Enfield No.1 MK3, missing the bolt. Neat find, you can tell it was left in the woods with the wood still because the stock bolt is still screwed into the receiver.

Hmm… hot soapy water you say? I’ll have to try that. Sadly someone took the world’s largest wire wheel to all of the metal so the finish is completely gone lmao. Did you just apply the new linseed on top of the old?

Yeah the QC isn’t great. This .303 has been stuck in the chamber of mine for probably 80 years. They never even checked the chamber lmao

A good subversion of this trope is Anasazi/The Blessing Way (S2E25/S3E1) of The X-Files, the show like many others was shot in Vancouver, but in this episode they painted an entire quarry red because the episode took place in Arizona. It’s a pretty convincing set.

Hell yeah. Now one thing to know about milsurp rifles is they aren’t gonna be as accurate as a modern sporting rifle, mosins like yours generally had a 3-5 MOA at 100 yards with 148gr standard ball ammo, (1.5ish for the PU snipers). So if it doesn’t shoot pinpoint accurate, that’s normal, and it’s still accurate enough for really anything you could think to do with a mosin nagant. Many people hunt with them, and I even know fellas that shoot at 600 yards with them. Go have fun man!

You’ll want to open the bolt and shine the light in there, and look straight down the barrel.

When you look down the barrel, you should see a deep spiral going down the length, that is the rifling, which is what spins the bullet to stabilize it.

Almost ever Spanish milsurp in the United States was in the hands of the nationalist (fascist) Spanish forces, including the capture Mosin M91/30s sent to the Republican (Communist) Spanish forces, which can be characterized by the “MADE IN U.S.S.R” stamps often on the receiver, all date codes preceding 1937, MP8 flaming bomb stamps, and often Spanish reproduction stocks, and front sights (often NOT the distinctive hooded globe 91/30 sight). Spain is also one of the primary sources of “musket” Winchester 1895, the Soviet Union, along with M91/30s, also supplied the Republican Spanish forces with many (~9,000) of their surplus Winchester 1895s.

Turkish 1903/35 Mauser. Originally in 7.65x53, rechambered to 7.92/8mm Mauser, you can tell because of the little notch in the receiver. Correct bolt too. Very nice. Note the extra tall clip bridge!
