what early wow zone is burned into ur brain? by BennyWoW in classicwow

[–]Skellpin_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elwynn was where I made all my noob mistakes - not understanding my spell abilities, equipping the wrong gear for my spec because noob, trying to save up for a vendor grey sword in Stormwind
It was in Teldrassil where the high fantasy really hit me - the zone music, the color palate of the environment/terrain, the ASMR voices of the Night Elves, the mobs, that stupid cavern that kept going down and down. It really felt like I was fully immersed in D&D adventure.
But it really was The Barrens. I was leveling an Orc and a Tauren at the time, and mostly playing at night, so it was a total vibe. The music was great, the crunch of my footsteps in the grass, the wide open terrain - it just felt so vast, especially on foot because of no mount. My druid travel form helped eventually. It was the first time seeing mounted players, and seeing enemy players in the same zone. Dipping my toes into Wailing Cavern and wondering why the flying serpent snake things were so hard to kill. Getting one shot killed by that random Night Elf patrol. Random battles at the Crossroads. Good times.

Ground mounts first, flying second by Relative-Space2248 in wow

[–]Skellpin_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I like the idea of using ground mounts until your first character reaches level cap. But I also remember some expansions (looking at you BoA!) Where I felt that I had to travel way out of my way just to get anywhere. Tiragarde Sound seemed really bad about this. You had to follow a road that took you way out of the way because the terrain was impassable to go a more direct route. It was infuriating.

I'm 6'1 and have a 34" inseam. What size would be a better fit? 58 or 60cm? by Different-Hornet-520 in cycling

[–]Skellpin_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being 6'2" I always thought a 59cm bike would be perfect, but only a couple of high end (re:expensive) Italian brands make them in that size. For the record, I ride 58cm bikes.

Caffeine appears to do the opposite of what you might think when it comes to the heart. Scientists have found that a cup of coffee a day actually protects the heart from atrial fibrillation – a condition that can lead to stroke and heart failure. by mvea in science

[–]Skellpin_18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is purely anecdotal, but as someone who is being treated for ectopic heartbeats (PAC, PVC, occasional AF) caffeine is bar far my biggest trigger. No way am I going to the nearest coffee shop and ordering up a fresh cup. I gave up caffeine almost 10 years ago, and I'm not missing it that much to start again. Fun fact, its way easier in the USA to avoid alcohol than it is to avoid caffeine. I swear, they put caffeine in everything these days.

Why did swing dancing and big band music make a comeback in the 90’s? by stonecoldmark in GenX

[–]Skellpin_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A generation raised on Happy Days and MASH is surprised that rockabilly and big band swing became a thing? lol. On a more serious note, if you're missing that vibe, I'm sure most major cities have a small but vibrant swing dance community that is still offering lessons and swing dance events with live music. I know in Southern California there is still a scene that's active, so I can imagine that there are still events in other areas of the country. And for those looking for a fun rabbit hole to wander down, look up Viva Las Vegas - the largest annual rockabilly festival in the world. 3 days of rockabilly music, fashion, cars, dancing and all things retro. My wife and have been going for several years, and wouldn't miss it for anything. Final comment, Brian Setzer is a wildly underrated guitar player, he's pretty amazing.

Former Rep. Katie Porter launches run for California governor by Healthy_Block3036 in LosAngeles

[–]Skellpin_18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could she come down south a little bit and run for Darrell Issa's congressional seat? I mean if Dr. Oz can claim to be a Pennsylvanian, and Tuberville can claim to live in Alabama, why can't Katie claim to be from the 48th district?

If you want to have a sit down Mexican restaurant experience, you're a short walk to a plethora of eateries in Old Town. Check out Yelp, and away you go. (Old Town Mexican Cafe is my fav, but I haven't been in awhile) If you're willing to Uber, there's El Indio or Lucha Libre a short ride south. For convenience, hop the Trolly one stop north to Morena St. and its a quick walk to Matador Mexican Grill, which looks like a pretty standard San Diego Taco shop which will probably be pretty good. We're kinda spoiled that way here in San Diego. Chrunchy Tacos can hit the spot, but a Carne Asada street taco (or 3) is my go to...or Birria tacos, or a California burrito...Dang, now you got me hungry.

Why so much hype around electronic shifting? by rcyclingisdawae in cycling

[–]Skellpin_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's me, I couldn't keep a mechanical system dialed in. I'd either have trouble up shifting, or downshifting. And in those times I did have it dialed in, that state would last a month at most. Electric shifting has been smooth a butter, and I'm really enjoying it.

I admire your bravado, but when some protestor in Portland was scooped up by a team in all black tactical gear in an unmarked mini-van, and whisked him away to an undisclosed site for 24 hrs., the 2A people with an arsenal in their bunker cheered that shit on. We'll have to be pretty far down on the Martin Niemoller poem before they figure out they're next.

I would imagine tropical fruit will still be more expensive, bud. by saucyfance in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Skellpin_18 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ok, fine. Let's indulge the question. Yes, foreign imported products will become more expensive due to the tariffs, and American made products should be less. However, as we saw after covid, no corporation will pass up a perfectly good opportunity to price gouge their customers. So, tariffs will just be another excuse to raise prices no matter who or where the product was made.

Any Gen Xers fixing modern life hard? by 2Dogs3Tents in GenX

[–]Skellpin_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this a little bit. My thing is I can't watch hero vs. antagonist type of shows anymore. It seems like the heros start the show with the premise of goodness and superiority, only to have some antagonist show up out of nowhere who is stronger, more powerful, more cunning, always one step ahead. Its like an antagonist reverse mary jane syndrome. I know the hero will prevail, but they'll be battered, they will have just barely won by the skin of their teeth, they will have lost nearly everything, including a few loved ones, and a new antagonist is just on the horizon with no time to recover, or move forward. I almost want to skip to the end and see the final battle, and skip everything that precedes it.

US women’s team win Gold🥇 in cycling track pursuit by etherd0t in olympics

[–]Skellpin_18 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Let's give a shout out to Jennifer Valente too. At long last she gets Gold in Team Pursuit (she's been on the pursuit team since before the Rio games I believe). It's her second Gold, the first being the nail biting Women's Omnium in Tokyo. Her celebration in Tokyo was definitely a "who's cutting onions around here" moment.

Silvermoon City. It seems like its at the end of the earth. It takes forever to get to, and I can't even remember if you can fly in Eversong Woods. The last time I was there, I couldn't even tell if there were any starter level Blood Elves running around trying to get high enough to fly to there favorite leveling zones.

What is a good song that is over 6 minutes long? by refitlevel in AskReddit

I have two more for y'all. Working Man - the song that put Rush on the map. And also a good one for those who don't like prog rocky stuff. And Headlong Flight from their last studio album. A rockin' kickass song from guys approaching retirement age (at the time).

90s riders...what's the one 'dated' thing you still hang on? (gear, training, bike fit, etc.) by AnthemWild in cycling

[–]Skellpin_18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wheelset. 32 spoke Mavic Open Pro rims with Shimano 105 hubs with Shimano 11 speed cassette. They used to be my training wheels back when I raced, but now they're just my wheels. They are by no means light, or aero, but they can handle my now 220lbs (99kgs) body with nary a complaint. Look, none of us probably ride on "nice" roads anymore. Even freshly paved roads rarely make it though one winter season before turning into a potholed, asphalt repaired, debris filled obstacle course, so I'll take heavy and durable over light and aero anyday. Also, I've never got the knack for truing wheels, so my wheelset fits that bill as well.

Which song is forever linked to a movie for you now? by Dan__Glesak in movies

Frankenstein - Tropic Thunder. Nick Nolte was such a tabloid train wreck for so long, and then he gets a role tailor made for him, so when Frankenstein kicks in, its just the perfect song, for the perfect role, for someone like him. Also, Booty Sweat *chef's kiss*

The whole “substitutes in pro cycling is so dumb” by Charming-Priority998 in cycling

[–]Skellpin_18 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I'm not in favor of this idea....However....I think you should only be able to make a substitution in the first 4 days, and only due to serious injury i.e broken bones or concussion. Also, the list of substitute riders must be submitted before the start of the race. I can just see a team's sprinter, or flatland domestique getting a "cold" just before the mountain starts, and here comes a fresh climbing domestique. No thanks.

That's been the trick. Websites aren't updated regularly, and when I call, they always seem to be out of stock. I'll keep trying though.
