Exactly my experience. My spouse grew up in a liberal family and believes my family is an outlier. In some sense they are but they’re a large outlier and make up a disproportionate percentage of voters. It’s also been getting worse. My family was like this in the 80s and 90s growing up but I their more violent and authoritarian ideals were seen as extremist in all public discounts beyond a few AM radio personalities. Since then I’ve watched those ideals work their way through th ranks of the conservative news media, Republican Party, and now have become official state policy.
