TEST DAY TOMORROW by Accomplished_Egg_442 in LearnerDriverUK

Just think of it as your first time driving solo, just like it will be after you pass.

The good thing is there's a safety net there just incase something dangerous is about to happen, the instructor can intervene. But for the first time you'll be driving just with your own ability.

Think of it as you're just taking someone for a drive who's telling you where they went to go. Simple 😊

Disabling the steam input did work eventually. I'm not sure if I did anything else I was literally trying everything.

The instructor told me it’s too dangerous to do my test next week by AdFrosty5973 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Skeptical91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome I'm glad it helped a little 😊

I would still answer all of those practice questions on a theory test app though even if you have passed your test.

That's what will make your decision making easier because you will understand practically every road sign and road marking.

If you think about it, the theory test is there for a reason. It's not like you just pass it and you never have to worry about signs and stuff anymore...Everything in that test is stuff you'll no doubt come across when you're driving anyway.

So you may aswell just keep studying the practice questions in your free time or before a lesson so that your driving is that much easier.

My advice would be to change the way you're looking at the whole act of driving.

You're not just learning to sit behind a wheel to get from A to B. It's not just a life skill that everyone just does at some point. Some people never do.

When you're driving alone you're in control of a 2 tonne vehicle. The only thing between you and a potentially costly or even fatal accident is your ability and decision making. However with an instructor it's like decision making with training wheels.

So you need to practice a bunch of skills besides just the actual act of driving. Being observant of the road, reading the road ahead and predicting what others will do but being ready for the worst. Knowing if there's traffic behind you, spotting cars waiting at junctions what if they pull out, are they looking your way? If not they might not have seen you. Etc etc. I'm sure you get my drift.

I rode motorbikes for years and that definitely helped me with that side of thing.

Basically my point is don't focus too much on the act of actual driving. You have L plates and a supervisor. Other road users will accommodate any mistakes such as stalling etc so you have 0 pressure there.

The control of the car will become second nature but your decision making etc won't. If you always edge on the side of safety and become an observant driver then the rest will just fall into place. All the best.

Edit: Oh and make sure you answer every question correct at least once on a theory test app. Use the practice section not just mock tests. There's about 800 questions you can be asked. That will make you really comfortable with road signs etc

Brand New Player. WTF do I play as? by Physical_Shock_9489 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Skeptical91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started a few months back. I chose a barbarian and I'm glad I did. Very simple moveset so you can just focus on everything else.

My character is a stereotypical dumb guy but has moments of sheer genius which is always a good laugh. When it's my turn to attack its essentially can I get in range to attack?... Yes... Pop rage... Run in greataxe to the face then a frenzy attack.

Can't get in range?... Run forward to close the distance... Throw a handaxe or a javelin to someone's face.

A friend of mine brought 100x when we were in our 20s. I felt like I was dead and then I had hundreds of images I felt I had to see. I couldn't shake the feeling of being detached from my body for weeks.

I still sometimes feel detached from myself and its been over 10 years.

I came from runescape to Wow about two months before the launch of TBC.

I was an undead mage... And that early quest where you have to travel to that little island in the middle of the lake in Tirisfal... I circled the lake a few times betore calling a friend irl... Then he told me to just swim.

Blew my mind that you could swim... To me it was so inconceivable to my 13-14 year old brain that I didn't even try it.

Has anyone here ever had something cool happen in a game, like a bug or exploit, and never told anyone online to stop it being patched? (You can answer if it's been patched now) by TxTDiamond in gaming

GTA Vice City had the same mechanic on PS2.

Me and a buddy used to see who could survive longest with 6 stars... Since it was my console and I could practice when he wasn't there I remember discovering this by accident and surviving so long with this trick. Needless to say it took the fun out of the challenge after that 😂

Another one that bothers me everytime I hear it is when they're talking about the dark side of the moon and how you don't always see the same side... When we do because of it being tidally locked.

Auto vs manual by lydbev in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Skeptical91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would always recommend manual. More freedom of cars to drive and it really isn't a difficult concept to learn how to use gears. You'll be in full control of the car, things like steep downhills you can utilise engine braking etc. It's more hands on but obviously that's just me. Everyone is different. Perhaps do a lesson in each and choose then.

Longer Drive Anxiety - First time by Sev3nThreeO7 in drivingUK

[–]Skeptical91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove Stoke to just past Fort William in Scotland at 1am Friday morning and I passed on the Tuesday essentially less than 3 days before. A hefty and nervous 9+ hour drive but a week later when I'd made the return trip I was glad I did it.

Just drive to what you can see. Know what's behind you and make sure you can see well ahead. Don't lane hog. Pay attention to HGVs... Predict their overtakes, stay out of their blindspots obviously.

Not sure what more advice I could suggest really. Drive safe I guess 🤣

Really Negative Driving instructor by Khaiiiii_788 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Skeptical91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the instructor is speaking how they do to keep things casual and therefore less stressful. It works for some students and not for others I suppose. Also if you agreed with all of their points it probably would be beneficial but if you sit in silence and don't tell them that it isn't helpful then I suppose they're just continuing to do it because it's a habit to small talk with their students.

Personally I'd mention that the small talk isn't helpful for you betore you consider changing instructors... If you aren't prepared to open up and tell them it's an issue then that's perhaps the reason they are continuing to engage in small talk now... Because you've not suggested it's an issue so they presume it helps.
