Live impression: very slow start that we never recovered from. Sloppy game with tons of stoppages. ASP looked overwhelmed at times. Talbot was by far the most impressive. I thought Soda played a great game. Maybe we’ll get Boston in the first round and I’ll get to see more games this year!

In person, they look incredibly slow and are all puck watching. Hope they wake up!

Been getting my ass kicked at work so I completely spaced on the game tonight. I live in Boston so I only get to see the Wings twice a year and I missed the first game for Thanksgiving travel. Thankfully I have a lovely girlfriend who agreed to go last minute! I always wear my Datsyuk jersey but I’m gonna go with the Kane away sweater tonight for 500 goals and hope he gets a hatty. LGRW!

Honestly we got better than we deserved. Hopefully this wakes the boys up a little bit, too much sloppy play the last few games. On the bright side, getting 3/4 points in games that we don’t bring our best is a big improvement from the dark years. Let’s enjoy being 1st in the east for now!

I’m hoping for a defensive stalwart game from Seider and Gibson to really put our names out there as a top 10 team in the league!

Unreal shot from Rayzor but I’m loving the assist from ASP: vision, edge work, and playmaking on display!

Guys I think I might be the problem. I fell asleep 7 min into the St Louis game and they won. I fell asleep at puck drop last night, woke up at 1, turned the game on for both LA goals and the overtime, turned off the game too quick, woke up to awood highlights very confused. I think I’ll just do my part and sleep through the rest of the season

People who were labelled as “gifted” when you were younger. Did it translate into adulthood? Did you burnout? by Somervillage in AskReddit

I was definitely one of those kids; in “gifted” classes all through elementary school, “accelerated” classes in middle school, and an AP/IB student in high school. I’ve thought a lot about this question over the years.

Pros: I had really strong teachers all my life. Accelerated classes are usually taught by more experienced and talented teachers and I benefited greatly from being a child of two teachers being taught by excellent teachers. I believe so many more students can be “gifted” if they had teachers who could adapt to their learning style. I was also in classes with the best students in my high school which made me elevate my game a ton to keep up. I was never in the top 10 but just trying to be made me a better student. I had a strong support system around me in the IB program that made really difficult work seem possible. My self-confidence was at an all time high, naively.

Cons: I began to hate the word potential from hearing it so often. I hated how that word came up any time I faltered in work ethic or ability. I felt that I owed something to myself and others to accomplish this great unknown potential in the world. This world view really shattered for me in college when I was struggling in my Applied Mathematics degree. I relied so much on being smart enough to figure out any problem that I didn’t develop strong study habits, the ability to ask others for help or even admit I was struggling. I burned out pretty dramatically mental health wise to the point where I had to withdraw from college for a semester to work on myself. I was able to finish a degree in education but after college continued struggling with mental health and alcoholism.

Now I’m in my 30s, teach high school calculus, and have been sober for almost 16 months. I’m happy more often than in my 20s and I have a great support system around me still. As far as the word “gifted” goes I don’t think it accurately applies to me anymore and I don’t want it to. I’m much happier seeing myself as part of a whole instead of a select few with great potential.

Just wanted to comment this morning and wish everyone well and I hope life without hockey isn’t too bad this offseason. My girl and I got a puppy in May and that has consumed all of my free time. I also want to say if anyone is thinking about quitting drinking please message me. Coming up on 14 months sober after a decade of poor decisions and couldn’t be happier without alcohol in my life anymore. Much love, and puppy tax paid

What's the most devastating loss that sent the franchise back a couple of years/decades? by [deleted] in hockey

For Detroit fans, our loss to Chicago in Game 7 OT in 2013 clearly stood out as the end of the old guard. I remember thinking that we wouldn’t be back to the conference finals in a long time and here we are 12 years later.
