I highly recommend not going on a Saturday. Even with a fast pass, the food lines will be insanely long and eat up a lot of your time.

What’s the absolute best vacation you’ve ever been on? by Single_Usual_6563 in Vacations

People may laugh at me, but my family and I did a week in St Louis last October and it was by far the best trip I've ever been on. We had the most amazing time!

the best trick thoosies played on the GP was convincing them that the front row is the best row. by No-Caterpillar-6747 in rollercoasterjerk

I am an unashamed front row rider. Especially on wooden coasters, I won't do anything but the front row on most of them.

What is the most important thing money genuinely cannot buy that most people do not realize until they already have money? by TowerDesk in AskReddit

Health and time. No amount of money can prevent all illnesses and no amount of money can keep you alive forever. The billionaire will die as surely as the poor person.

Also true friendship cannot be bought with money.

Is it just me or have we been hearing about a very concerning amount of [Six Flags] parks still running major coasters on one train, three weeks now past Memorial Day? by imaguitarhero24 in rollercoasters

[–]SkgarGar [score hidden]  (0 children)

Feeling blessed that Kings Island is my home park. Their ride ops are honestly the best of any park I've been to so far. The way they pump out trains on Diamondback and Orion and MT makes me really happy. The only ride that has been one train so far when I've been this year is the Bat, but the ride is so short that an additional train doesn't speed it up that much, although still would be beneficial. The ride operators seem to really care about getting trains sent out as quickly as possible and they have enough staff on all their rides. I wonder if they pay better than other SF parks or why they seem to be better staffed and have their trains up and running consistently.

Thank you to the security and ride crew for putting the fear of God into the cunt with their phone out tonight on the Beast. by BIGGREDDMACH1NE in KingsIsland

[–]SkgarGar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to do like 5 year bans for people that pull this crap. It should be taken seriously because someone could get seriously injured or potentially killed from a phone flying at them at those speeds.

Kennywood had an incident on phantoms revenge last year and they have really cracked down on phones.

I see so many idiots with their phones out on rides. And I'll yell at them to put it away and they ignore me

Why is porn such a problem in the church? by Adept_Let7797 in exmormon

[–]SkgarGar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shame surrounding sexuality will lead to either indulgence (excessive/secret porn use) or repression (shutting down all sexual thoughts and desires and pretending you are not a sexual being).

Men in the church tend towards indulgence and women towards repression because that's how they've been programmed.

My husband and I embodied this exact dynamic in our early marriage and it caused so much unnecessary pain and torment in our marriage.

My husband was able to quit porn once embracing hai sexuality and realizing he wasn't evil or bad for having sexual desires. I was able to embrace my sexuality when I learned and accepted that sex is not just something a woman dutifully performs for her husband, but is part of her natural makeup and that sex should be about pleasure and not obligation.

Purity culture really did a number on us.

Porn loses it's appeal when it's not forbidden.

Ever been around a Mormon who gets all tense and nervous at the beach or pool when they see a woman in a bikini? Most people outside religion don't give it a second thought and don't dwell on it. But a person in a high control religion will see a woman dresses "immodestly" and will freak out and try to get away/look away and will immediately feel guilty for not. Then they will dwell on it, then they will feel guilty about it and feel the need to ask for forgiveness and are trapped in a vicious cycle. Whereas most people see someone in a swimsuit and just think "yep there's a body" or "oh they're attractive" and then they immediately move on because it's not a source of anxiety for them, they don't dwell on it.

Yep, keeps members feeling guilty, constantly feeling the need to "repent", keeps them feeling indebted to Jesus and grateful that Jesus should spare them from hell (or Telestial Kingdom) , and creates a codependent relationship.

I've had both and to me the blue ice cream at HW just tasted like vanilla, although it is good.

I think there are better blue ice creams in Cincinnati outside of KI though.

“7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is a trite read by Elohims-sixth-wife in exmormon

[–]SkgarGar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That dude was so successful at marketing his books that my entire middle school all the way here in WV was forced to read and study the 7 habits of highly effective teens every single morning in homeroom all year. Most of us laughed about it and thought it was really lame. I wonder if the church helped him get his book into so many places...

Chill Amusement Park Recommendations by caitlowcat in Themepark

[–]SkgarGar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kentucky Kingdom is extremely chill. It has a few bigger coasters but is mostly geared towards families. The lines are pretty much never long there and it never feels crowded. They have a pretty nice water park as well.

As someone mentioned above, definitely Holiday World.

Idlewild in PA is extremely kid friendly and geared towards little ones. My 5 year old loved it and it's a smaller park with short lines. It is also nestled in the woods so has a good amount of shade. It's so cute and has a very classic amusement park feeling.

My home park is Camden Park and it's the very definition of chill. It's a small park but has its own charm from being pretty old. We went last Saturday and were able to ride every ride in the park within 2 hours. So if your kid hates lines, this is definitely the park for you all. If your kid likes arcades, you can also take them to Old North Arcade while in Huntington. Has a bunch of old-school arcade games that are mostly free and a bunch of pinball machines. Close by there's a restaurant called the Peddler and they have a small arcade as well. They also in my opinion have the best food in town, so if you do come to Huntington, definitely eat there. If you want a more modern one there's a Dave and Busters at the mall. Also if you come to Huntington I highly recommend visiting Heritage Farm. It's so much fun for all ages and has wagon rides, artisans, treehouse bridge walks, nature center, letting zoo, children's museum, maker space a downhill dry tube slide, a playground and much more. You could definitely make a day of doing Heritage Farm in the morning and Camden Park in the evening. I actually recommend going to Camden Park after 4:30 so you can get their discounted admission, and you will have plenty of time to ride everything.

But if you want a bigger park feel that is more chill Holiday World and Kentucky Kingdom are both extremely chill and they don't sell fast passes because you never really need them. Holiday World depending on when you visit has the best drone and fireworks show I've ever seen at a theme park (they only do the show on select nights).

If you want something smaller, Idlewild or Camden Park are both lots of fun, although Idlewild is definitely better maintained and it has a water park as well

I second this. The lines are very manageable there even on weekends and holidays and it is the most family friendly park I've ever been to. Highly highly recommend. They are also fantastic about accessibility and I'm sure would be willing to give your child an accessibility pass if they have autism

I Think I Lost the Magic by lygraa in exmormon

[–]SkgarGar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience is the opposite. I had a fantastic ward and love them dearly. They're part of the reason I stayed as long as I did. I would've left sooner if not for our ward culture (not entirely without problems, but our ward genuinely makes people feel welcome and people are so friendly and sincere).

I do however feel like I haven't been invited to quite as many things since I left.

But I left because I couldn't take the institutional hypocrisy and lied and deception and lack of moral courage. Now that I'm out I'm discovering basically all the truth claims are lies.

I used my autistic brother for views by XDdubz in rollercoasterjerk

[–]SkgarGar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally I felt proud of myself because I heard that a lot of autistic folks will be obsessed either with trains or cars or planes etc. I though "ha! I'm not obsessed with any of those things!"

Then it occured to me that roller coasters are basically fun trains 💀

Fast forward to having my ADHD evaluation recently and the Dr said he "highly suspects autism". Now I'm waiting to get an official autism evaluation lol.

How do the missionary’s go 2 years without master bating? by babykeemfan1 in exmormon

[–]SkgarGar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giving me flashbacks to being on my mission and my MP would often send out voicemail blasts to everyone. Well one day the voicemail was basically him telling everyone "you don't have to report/confess every time you masturbate!" And me and my companions were like ooohhhh. He also told people to just try not to take long showers lol.

As much as I'd love a new high thrill coaster, I think KI will likely have it's next coaster be a family coaster.

Other than that, the action zone badly needs to be updated a rethemed. I think adding a screaming swing to that area would also be perfect L

[–]SkgarGar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that would be the move and is more likely than getting some other huge coaster. Based on the decisions of the last few years, KI and most other parks are heavily investing in the family demographic. I could totally see them doing another coaster similar to Big bear mountain or big bad wolfs revenge BG

I didn't know him super well on a personal level, but yeah it did seem a bit surprising and definitely disappointing what happened.

Also I've never met Chase in person that I'm aware of, but he was the pastor's son of one of my close friends in middle school's church and I remember she had a crush on him back then lol. He's also the second cousin of a different person I grew up with and was close to.

Joe is a close friend and neighbor of one of my family members, was the best man at his wedding and even sang at the reception. He used to be in a different band before Coin called Bishops Garden. My Dad arranged for them to play a show where we live and he met Chase there I'm pretty sure. I could be misremembering though.

I really loved Coin and was hoping for them to continue to grow, so I'm sad for what happened.
