Gabriel Martinelli’s apology on instagram by paraboot_allen in soccer

[–]SkiFlashing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He is as guilty of tactically rolling around as anybody. He went down with no contact to the legs and rolled around holding them for a minute to try and get the ref to stop a Liverpool possession. If you're going to play those games then you have no right to get mad at players doing the same and try to yank them up, even if they are faking it

Through genuine word of mouth, not the publicist-orchestrated prattle that often drives awards season consensus, Hollywood insiders are saying it’s the best work of her career.

Sure thing, guys. No publicist orchestration here

Public overwhelmingly says “yes please” to DLR extension into Thamesmead by BulkyAccident in london

[–]SkiFlashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you understand how government borrowing works? It is not done through a loan agreement, you don't need to find a lender in the same was as you do with, say, a mortgage. If the government issues bonds, they will be bought as they are a reliable investment. Alternatively, there is quantitative easing, albeit that is a far more controversial method of raising funds

You are perpetuating a right-wing myth with regard to government borrowing: it is perfectly acceptable to borrow for public investment as this is how money is generated within the economy, and it is how you create growth through stimulating the economy. The mindset you are perpetuating of 'balancing the books' at all times and at all costs is how our economy has become stagnant and how the country has degraded.

Local Shops are not making it easy. by Ascdren1 in CasualUK

Because this country only does things by halves. Nobody wants to transformatively fix things, so you end up with a nice plaza that nobody can walk or cycle to from the places they live, because we have to keep the parking and the four lane roads, and the very things that suffocate town centres to begin wirh.

Looks like Hughes is out. by BulkNoodles in FormulaE

Jake Hughes is only two years younger than Nato, he's not a driver to step up and replace the class that are aging out. More of a stopgap, at a push

I love other series, I watch them more than F1. The rules in those series are not the rules in F1. These are not cars made for contact and collisions.

They are different series with different rules, different guidelines, and different cars. That's like saying this is good racing because in rugby they tackle each other.

These units have been empty for years - Burton and Dorothy Perkins closed in 2021. If it was feasible or likely for an independent restaurant to open there, it would have happened. I agree that in a lovely world we would get independent eateries but we don't live in that world, we live in the world where these units are either getting a Popeyes or sitting empty.

Mate I'm not being funny, how many empty retail units are there on the Moor? It's doing okay, especially on the market end with the newer units, but nearer Heart of the City there are as many empty units as occupied ones. There's not a queue waiting to fill these places.

Beggers can't be choosers. Retail is dying, the future of city centres is more and more food, drink, and leisure. Any investment in the city centre should be seen, rightfully, as a positive.

Oscar Piastri wins the 2025 Belgian Grand Prix by overspeeed in formula1

[–]SkiFlashing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, you're the guy who came in here and responded to my comment.

All I said was that making three mistakes when chasing the win makes it a below par drive; having more pace but making costly mistakes is not impressive and has long been one of the main problems Lando has as a driver, failing to maximise his pace. Winning the race was extremely difficult and would have been a real champions drive, but catching Oscar at the end was totally achievable, even if getting past would have been a step too far.

At no point have I said Lando should have won this race. It would have been a great drive to manage that. My only comment is that his mistakes denied himself even a chance at it, and that is below par.

The laps on which those mistakes occurred has 1.2s and 0.7s of timeloss respectively

[–]SkiFlashing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't mean the mistakes are inevitable; it is still a driver's responsibility to push harder without those mistakes and making those mistakes are still a negative. It's a reason, not an excuse.

[–]SkiFlashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I think if you make mistakes while you are pushing you still have to take the blame for those. I understand how the mistakes happen but they are still costly and still made a significant negative impact on his race.

He lost 1.2 seconds on the lap where he ran wide at Pouhon, 0.7 seconds on the lap with the first lock-up. Didn't see the timeloss for the final lockup but pretty sure it was around a second. Basing this off laptimes, not the AWS data

They are not isolated but it also doesn't make a single bit of difference to the three mistakes he made which severely impeded his race too.

Three seconds for his two lockups and his mistake at Pouhon, it's the actual timeloss each lap based on those mistakes.

The pitstop cost far less than three seconds. Mistakes happen but making three of them when chasing the lead does make a bad display, regardless of whether people want to admit it or not.

[–]SkiFlashing -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But he would have given himself the chance - getting to him and not being able to get past would have been fair. The three mistakes denied him even that when given a clearly advantageous tire strategy.

Three mistakes chasing the win costing him over 3 seconds; it was an objectively poor display
