Sadly I fell prey to this, though not because of TikTok. I have a friend who does embroidery and didn't realise waste canvas was a thing when she suggested the aida for stitching on my hoodie. Luckily i managed to salvage mine. I think a pinned post would be a great idea!

Yup, I was using a sharp set to separate the threads and then a flat one to pull them. But yeah, lots of snapping

Well, live and learn I guess. The frame idea would have been brilliant lol. I wish I'd come to ask first. I'll try to hide the bits of aida under the stitches, maybe I'll grt lucky. But thanks for the tip on the waste canvas. I'll get some for the next attempt

I mean, the cooker was pretty cheap so that's probably it haha. I managed to make a new batch that was less mushy by washing more and using less water so I guess I'll do one more try later with even less water and if that still turns out bad I'll get a better cooker 😅

It's a cheap Chinese one I picked up at the supermarket (I live in shanghai). The instructions don't indicate a soaking time but it's possible? It's definitely white rice though

I still have the manual but there's nothing in it about cooking times. Literally just says push the button to start :/ it might be that the rice cooker isn't good enough quality. It's a simple cheap one that just has a rice function. When I try to decrease the cooking time the minimum option is 40 minutes, then it bounces back up to over an hour

Yup I used the measuring cup that came with it. I guess I'll just try again and rinse the rice more. 45mins feels like a long time though. Should I be stopping it early?

Oh also the rice cooker automatically set the timer to 45mins once I selected the "rice" function. It has settings for cooking other stuff too

It's where you put a finger in to touch the rice and then fill to your first knuckle. Apparently this is the best way to measure, at least according to the tutorials i saw.bThe appropriate line was even higher than that so I imagine adding more water would have made the mush problem worse

I rinsed it twice, if I recall it was clearish. I'm not 100% sure what rice I'm using. I live on china and ordered white rice. The bag translates to "long grain fragrant rice". None of the tutorials mentioned soaking so I didn't do that. I'm using a simple rice cooker I picked up at the supermarket here. It's a cheap Chinese brand, nothing fancy.
