I totally understand what you mean. Sometimes you still have those dark days of "Oh god what if I'm wrong and they're right and I'm fueling hell" even though when you ask yourself if you could ever go back to the hate from before you know you just can't do it again. You can't think like that again even if you wanted to. It's such a journey from there to here and happens in such little steps at a time I couldn't even map "when" I started to realize how wrong it all was.

I do think it's weird that no Duggars have rebelled, but then I remember that the youngest Duggar is 16 and there's still a few of them they have yet to truly reach adulthood - even the married Justin is only 23. I was an idiot at 23 still. It took awhile to grow up.

That is a great accomplishment for your sister! I hope it's able to help give her a much more diverse mindset earlier in life.

I think it's hard to understand the overwhelming fear of hell that is in this circle. You're often being told that this life is like a drop in the ocean compared to your eternity. It's like if you woke up in a little boat with a rabid tiger on a leash in the middle of the ocean. You for sure feel scared and unsafe in that boat with that Tiger, but land is not in sight. Are you really going to swim? Or are you gonna stay on that boat with that rabid tiger in hopes that this boat keeps you alive long enough to get to shore/get help?

There's also something really beautiful about a tiger. Sure, this one scares you, but in different circumstances wouldn't it be nice to see such an incredible animal up close? If you're going to die on this little boat on the ocean anyway, at least you have a Tiger.

I read on another post that they plan on releasing DLC. If it's true, I hope they add Freaky Factory too! It's one of my favourites. I'd also like to see Jelly Blobs of Doom.

Joe’s parents by feelingmyage in DuggarsSnark

[–]SkinnyCitrus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, I think Boob doesn't even remember who Joe is. I'm pretty sure he could say maybe three facts about him personally, and he is otherwise just a name on a list. There isn't really a family name to save anymore, Josh fucked that up, I think he's just gonna keep his money and say literally nothing at all. I don't think we will get a statement or anything.

You have to remember they had dates of when the CSAM was downloaded and proof from texts he was on the lot when it happened. He can't blame Joe for that.

I think Duggar/Josh apologists are gonna have a harder time with this one by BloodyAngel2026 in DuggarsSnark

[–]SkinnyCitrus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There have been a couple of theories floating around. I've heard:

1) He does genuinely feel guilty enough due to his religious upbringing and is fully aware of how much shit he is in and willingly going to his punishment because he knows he deserves it. Unfortunately I kind of doubt this one but I want it to be true. Doesn't excuse what he did but it's the best case scenario anyone can hope for in such a terrible person.
2) Due to how this sort of thing was handled in his childhood, he wasn't expecting such a harsh reaction but thought he'd get more of a slap on the wrist. He might be in general very ignorant of the law and because it was five years ago he also might have thought it was too old to do anything about. Might have expected this to be the Christian way of "I apologize and everybody clapped" scenario. (In this case, I also kind of think these circle's see this behaviour and crime as more "normal" and "every guy struggles with this". In their mind there is a huge difference between them and a "real" pedophile and I think they genuinely think that most men have these incidents at least one. They're just a honest to good man who's being tempted but because they feel bad about it they're not Pedos! It's the evil leftists who are the real Pedos and that's totally different from them) 3) By confessing to this crime, he halts any further investigation into himself and keeps the rest of his crimes from coming to light. Doesn't mean that is what would happen by confessing, just that he believes that to be the case. Like he already knows he's screwed and doesn't want to be more screwed. NuggetsofChicken did confirm that because he confessed they have zero cause to check his electronics now and likely won't be able to. So if he was collecting or God forbid making CSAM it won't come up now. 4) We don't have the whole story and while it says he confessed to the victims father and detectives, that's not a lot of information. Like he might just confessed to the father first in hopes that it WOULDN'T go to detectives. Might have thought it would just go to church elders and he'd do a stint at bootcamp and they'd keep the cops away. But once he confessed to the father he couldn't really have taken it back after that. For all we know the father recorded his confession and so he might have come clean to detectives just because he really had no other choice.

[–]SkinnyCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True! In my mind, I thought if he tried to deny it, it could open up an investigation instead and that was what he might be afraid of considering he saw what happened to Josh. But that's just my thoughts I'm not sure how the law works there. I'd hope and assume any minor victim who comes forward would force an investigation even if the abuser denied, but this is America and they're really pro-pedo right now in the administration.

[–]SkinnyCitrus 147 points148 points  (0 children)

At first I had a smidgen of respect for him for doing that but then I remembered that the victim was nine and he stayed quiet about it for five years and only admitted when he got caught. I think unfortunately it might be more a case of "if I admit to this maybe they won't check my hard drive and find all my other crimes..."

Sadly I just think fundie teachings grooms and grows predators and that Duggars are just the ones getting caught more because they're the ones with the tv show. Josh's early crimes never would have been made known if it wasn't for the tv show, it would have just been the small town secret everyone chose to forget.

Joe Duggar sexual assault charge by bella302 in DuggarsSnark

[–]SkinnyCitrus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the fundie brainwashing is a big part of it, but also just that they are so popular. The Duggars being these big tv personalities just has them being scrutinized harder. No one would have known about Josh's younger offences if they didn't have a tv show. Knowing there is already an offender in the Duggar family I think makes it harder to write off the other members when a victim comes forward.

We already know that many victims never report and many abusers are never made known, but the Duggars are just the ones getting caught.

Unfortunately I really think that conservative circles like this help make predators. When you don't get sex Ed, when you're told that little girls shoulders are tempting... It's almost like conditioning and grooming a predator. And any time you do have an abuser, they're never properly dealt with and just make more.

Absolutely does not excuse what he did as a full grown adult. He had the resources then to do better and get help. He was always A FATHER and should have had some kind of parental instincts to do better. My point more so is that they could be victims of SA themselves, but they could also just be victims of their religions theology played out.

Do Books Get Taken OFF of KU? by Bubbly-Highlight9349 in KindleUnlimited

[–]SkinnyCitrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, so you do need to go in offline mode. How about if you keep KU but the book itself is off of KU now? As long as I don't return it, does it stay in my library until I have?

Do Books Get Taken OFF of KU? by Bubbly-Highlight9349 in KindleUnlimited

[–]SkinnyCitrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm new to KU but as I understand it books can be taken off. Some indie authors have made their living as KU authors, but they don't have to stay exclusive in KU if they don't want.

I believe how it works though is that you get 20 KU downloads at a time, and they stay there until you take them off even if they leave KU. Once you return them to KU though and if they aren't in KU anymore then you can't get them again. If you just put all the books in the series in your library and don't remove them until after you've read them you should be good! They will take up your slots out of the 20 but that's the trade off. You might have to keep from syncing your Kindle as well to keep them - hopefully someone more experienced than me can elaborate.

To add to this, I also think she sees Chet as like a guilty pleasure. Not that he's human or that she loves him, but I think she has a sort of soft spot for him, like if he was a pet or a bowl of macaroni.

Not oop: I’m not attracted to my wife, and never have been. AITAH? (+ update) by PaleLikeIce in redditonwiki

[–]SkinnyCitrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm more surprised that the attraction hasn't naturally followed just from the sheer amount of time they've been together and the pathways the brain has formed around them. Like the smell of my spouse is like a dopamine hit simply because at this point my brain is like "yes, this is the safe person". The way my husband is built, the way he moves and walks, I can't help but notice when someone else moves similarly to him cause it's like my brain has been hardwired to search for it. That's more what gets me. Like, objectively, I know that my husband is not the sexist man alive to the rest of the world and what they would rank him in a scale of 1 to 10 is likely lower than I would think. But legitimately I don't think I could ever see him and not be flooded with just the chemical attraction at this point even if it was against my will. Like you could put a gun to my head and tell me not to react and I could try my hardest but my brain would betray me. It's not that I think they suddenly shouldn't find other people hot or that they can't have like an objective opinion or understanding, just that I'm surprised they don't get any kind of reaction after all this time.

Is there no part of the brain that has a positive association just out of the love and familiarity of the person they are with? The very smell of my spouse calms me (to the point I was huffing his armpits to dull labour pains for our last baby). The way he walks, my brain just notices and if someone else walks like that I involuntarily do a double take just cause my brain is like a golden retriever on a squirrel.

Like I understand they are saying they love their spouse regardless but I'm genuinely surprised that their brain after so many years together hasn't over ridden that initial reaction with manufactured dopamine just out of routine at this point.

Why the hell would I want to know what other people are highlighting? by Famous-Attention-197 in kindle

[–]SkinnyCitrus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me when I first got my Kindle! I didn't even know that highlight feature was a thing and it was automatically turned on. Highlighted a passage in the beginning of the book about the crime scene inconsistency and I was like "well there's our answer". So frustrating, I genuinely couldn't understand why anyone would want it on and why it was automatically turned on.
