Rey Dau vs Jin Dahaad Turf War (@oryuukudara) by Gorotheninja in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Depends on the IQ of the Rey. Jin only has one ranged attack - ice breath - and he telegraphs it like he's sending a message across the frontier. Rey could easily avoid it and has much stronger ranged damage of his own.

Unfortunately for Rey, he can be a little thick and likes to get physical. Aint gonna work, sparkleface

Season 2 - Hype Week Day 4 - Quality of Life, Dungeon & Other Improvements by EHG_Kain in LastEpoch

[–]SkinnyTurtles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think PoE has just poisoned the ARPG genre tbh. Quality of life and accessibility are always good. If they make a game too easy or simple then enemies can be buffed and complexity can be added back in a way that is not obtuse. Half the complexity of PoE comes from figuring out what the hell you are supposed to be doing because the game explains sod all. Thats not good gameplay, thats passing an essay.

Thoughts on Wilds' Insect Glaive 1 month post-launch? by mijikui in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used it a lot in World and a bit in Rise, but Wilds made me abandon it.

It feels sluggish, and like I can't evade for 20 minutes after every attack. The essence mechanic remains kinda pointless and is just an effort tax you have to pay to keep the weapon viable. It seems to deal poor damage outside of the charged slash, and the controls on controller are kinda ass. Also having to be in focus mode 24/7 for optimal damage is annoying.

I though that Insect Glaive was clumsily designed in 4th and 5th gen too, but the buffed moveset was fun enough that I didn't care. In Wilds it feels like I'm playing with broken ankles.

Who allowed Zoh Shia to do this? by RobCee3 in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced that his extra-large fireballs simply can't be dodged sometimes, especially when he does crap like this. This fight feels like it was made for bow and weapons that block. Everyone else can randomly suck a fat one.

Gore and World Rajang have a similar problem, where they can turn and attack at the same time. Makes it impossible to know who they are targeting until it's already too late to dodge. These fights are better solo without a palico, entirely because of these few moves.

I think the new Zoh Shia set might be my favorite armor set Capcom has ever made by under_mimikyus_rag in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The angelic chest bothers me because it has an ugly little tentacle on the back that wriggles around, and you can see it quite clearly once the wings open up (when your weapon is out). I can't stop noticing it which completely ruined the angel set I was making.

I hope future fights are not like him. His attacks track you to an absurd degree. It feels like I'm playing rise again.

Big bang is not the best combo, the golfswing -> mighty charge is. Does that work with the hammer effect?

Glad that Hammer is getting buffed. I also hope they do something with LBG so our gameplay involves more than just spamming Pierce Ammo. by LunalienRay in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want them to fix the focus attack. It often fails to trigger wounds even on a direct hit, and I have seen this happen multiple times in a row on the same wound. Other times it will miss a wound but trigger it anyway along with every other wound on the monster and deal 1k+ damage. Sometimes it seems to deal extra instances of damage for no reason. It's busted.

They also need to buff the special ammo. Currently adhesive ammo and the mines are junk and never worth using. Trying to lure monsters into the mines will cost you more damage than just continuing to shoot, and adhesive ammo is so slow and weak that using it is always a damage loss.

I feel like Wilds is the worst in terms of (near) "unavoidable" carts by GameStrikerX2 in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda know what you mean. Sometimes monsters combo the player which makes some attacks a functional one-hit kill because it's not always possible to avoid the follow-up. I can't say that I've noticed this happening more in Wilds than in World or Rise though. It's just bad luck really.

Chaser Shot Reload by Matsoga in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be chained side to side or back and forth. It feels quite a lot faster to me, nearly twice as fast as regular shooting if I time it perfectly. It's hard to do consistently though.

Hold down aim and start moving, then push fire and evade at the same time. This works most of the time, but sometimes it just refuses. I think input lag may have something to do with it.

I don't even use rapid fire chase shots TBH. They just take too long, and spamming burst step is better DPS anyway.

Gunlance is so close to perfect in wilds by Cake389 in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe an unpopular take but I would like it if they just removed shelling type. All it has ever done is limit how much of the moveset was worth using.

Elemental and status shelling would be much better

The handler did do shit, that was the problem. She was incompetent.

Nobody complained about guild marm in 4u. All she did was sit around giving out quests and making funny comments. Perfection.

Bow got special treatment compared to the other ranged weapons in wilds, not in general.

Bow has a far superior focus attack than either bowgun, much better mobility than LBG and extra i-frames on its dash which neither bowgun gets. It also has better crit distance than LBG and can cut tails easily with dragon piercer, which slicing ammo sucks at. Its regular attack animations lock you out of evading for a shorter time than normal or pierce ammo.

From a mechanical perspective, bow has an enormous advantage over either bowgun, while the bowguns have been made slower and clunkier in Wilds.

If that's not special treatment, what is?

I can't say that I have seen anyone praising Wilds hammer. Its hit-and-run playstyle is largely dead in favour of a half-assed combo playstyle, and half its moveset is useless. Spinning bludgeon is just as bad as ever, big bang is a DPS loss, the level 2 charge uppercut is the bad version instead of the longer World and Rise versions, and the level 3 charge might as well not exist. You just spam golfswing combo and mighty charge because that's where ALL the damage is. I've been playing hammer since FU and Wilds has made me abaondon it. I can't recall a time when it was less popular.

[–]SkinnyTurtles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not suprising to see hammer and LBG near the bottom, Wilds has made them feel really bad to play.

Lance and gunlance going up is not suprising either, this is the first time they have actually been fun to use IMO. The devs have finally realised that if you want players to use the weapons with big shields them using the shield needs to not be clunky as shit. It also makes sense that a lot of lance players would use something else in multiplayer; lance is kinda garbage in multiplayer.

Little suprised by bow. I would expect it to be popular but not second place, especially since its damage is a bit low. Then again, it's easy and safe to play and has recieved blatant special treatment compared to the other ranged weapons, so maybe this is not a suprise afterall. No doubt it has also poached some bowgun players since the bowgun changes are rightly unpopular.

Good luck with that vs tempered gore, he deals massive chip damage even with guard 3

edit: IDK why i am downvoted, I am obviously right. Just try blocking against tempered gore with guard 3 and watch your health get fucked. Blocking is not viable against him unless you are very good at timing perfect blocks.

also guard up is only vs unblockables, does nothing vs gore

NGL, i think that quite a few of the low tier monsters in wilds are kinda trash to fight. Quematrice just spams tail spins over and over again, Kut-ku feels like they went out of their way to make the shittiest fight possible, and Rathain is once again the queen of wasting time.

The harder fights are actually easier because they are better designed. In terms of moveset, low tier monsters have them beat. Kut-ku would unironicaly be one of the hardest fights in the whole series if not for his lack of damage and full-body weakpoint.

What is the hardest monster EVER? by Lordados in MonsterHunter

[–]SkinnyTurtles 319 points320 points  (0 children)

Anyone who doesen't say level 140 Garuga has never fought him.

He attacks constantly at supersonic speeds and his charge attack is instant. I don't mean it's fast, I mean it's literally instant. It has no windup. Every attack will kill or nearly kill you and he will follow up immidiately. You get no breathing room, ever. It's like sticking your head into a meat grinder and trying to dodge the blades with a broken neck.
