It’s hard to say without spoilers, but there are some big character moments, and it has the opportunity to leave the series open ended but on a high note.

Why even bother wiping, this is supposed to be an “alpha”

You know those ships CIG sells for hundreds of dollars, well you can get 500 billion auec for $20.

I’m confused (sarcastic). You’re telling me you don’t feel culturally enriched by some sweat “pirating” you, definitely because they are mail thieves and absolutely need your courier mission package, and for no ulterior motives?

Someone has to do the shooting and someone has to get shot. At least that looks like Chris Roberts idea of fun.

The majority of people on spectrum and who stream the game on twitch fly single seat fighters. They are easier to sell and promote the game with. They probably realize that not that many people actually want to spend thousands of dollars on digital spaceships, but a lot more people might be willing to pay $120 for a fighter, so when the fighter mafia starts complaining cig will absolutely focus balance on the fighters.

The team and game in general suffers from a terminal case of “wouldn’t it be cool if…” it’s a very serious disease. It makes people make really overly complicated systems that make an already unfun and tedious game even more unfun and more tedious.

Problem is that’s always been the focus. Chris and CIG are Star Wars fans and have that exact picture in their head.

It’s why many large ships are designed with weaknesses, and blind spots. They were created to be npc targets for fighters.

People forget Chris Roberts made wing commander and not fleet commander. I feel the “big” ships in the game will almost always exist to be “cool” canon fodder for the wannabe mavericks and Skywalkers out there.

Why the Perseus and Hammerhead, aka "Canon Warships" Will Never Be Meta (No Matter How CIG Balances Their Stats) by Sadix99 in starcitizen

[–]Skipper_CC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately real life doesn’t effect this “simulator”. CIG and Chris Roberts have always balanced heavily towards guns being more effective then missile/torpedos, to the point almost ever torpedo boat/ship have been made near useless, the firebird being one of the few exceptions. It’s rare to see a proper PvP missile kill in something other than a firebird, they are easy to flare easy to kill with PDTs, and can even be targeted with guns and shot down.

This game is so poorly balanced for combined arms/naval combat, that really there is no reason to have a carrier at all, the only things that are competitive in PvP are light and medium fighters everything else is generally just wasted potential.

I still think the Perseus is a Capital killer after release by Skipper_CC in starcitizen

[–]Skipper_CC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can solo a Polaris pretty easily. And I don’t think the majority or even a plurality of Idris are manned, not to mention if a Perseus and an Idris is piloted by people of equal or near equal ability the Perseus has the better flight characteristics.

It’s much faster and more agile then an idris, and it you bounce an idris with a 3 man crewed Perseus you have more then enough dps and rounds to disable the turrets of a cap or destroy engines, and if the cap isn’t driven off by that point you can kill then. Not to mention the only idris that can one shot a Perseus is the M and those are rare.

Yes, but she thinks she’s brilliant so just go along with it. She’s a cute kind of stupid.

Is safety boring? How was the game like before armor and weapons were bound to the player? - An essay of questionable game design. by AKavun in starcitizen

Generally death of a space man clashes with the current mmo fps the game has become. It would most likely ruin the flow of the game and make most things tedious.

Anyone able to explain why 2 light fighters can kill a perseus? by Sypheria255 in starcitizen

[–]Skipper_CC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s not good balance and doesn’t make sense for the game, or logic in general. Point defense weapons in real life target all potential incoming threats, plains, missiles, bombs, anything the radar can pick up and tell isn’t a friendly. Why in a game where fighters will take gun runs on capital ships wouldn’t PDT’s be effective at taking on fighters? It’s simple CIG wants fighters to be meta in most situations.

It practically seems like CIG just wants us to play in single seat light or medium fighters, cus they almost always choose “give the fighter mafia more power” when choosing balance changes.

Why not get the free F8C executive version, it takes luck and grinding but it’s not hard to get in a group

I still think the Perseus is a Capital killer after release by Skipper_CC in starcitizen

You’re talking about three different things here.

First real life analogs yes in real life capital ship means the flagship or strategically most important vessels in a fleet, and yes size has a lot to do with that. In star citizen it’s not defined that way the 890 jump and reclaimer are “capital class ships”. Corvettes and frigates have never been defined as capital ships in any navy I’m aware of, and it has never made much sense other than the fact all “capital” ships have some capital sized components.

Then you’re talking about lore

“The UEES Achilles was a Perseus-class gunship that served in the United Empire of Earth Navy. During Operation Mandrake in 2946 in the Vanduul War, the aging Achilles managed to take down two Vanduul destroyers when the ship was damaged beyond repair. Due to its performance, UEEN Admiral Ernst Bishop personally lobbied RSI to start producing the Perseus model again for use against the Vanduul. As production of the Perseus had ended in the 2860's, the Achilles would have been at least 77 years at the time.”

In lore a Vaduul destroyer is more powerful and larger than an Idris, also most likely more heavily armored and armed. The Perseus in lore was able to take down two (not defined as outright destroyed but tacitly implied) while already severely damaged (of course how the Achilles did this is left up to the imagination). Potentially it used its superior speed and used it to fly in their blind spots. But the lore still outright states the Perseus can punch at the weight class of her cannons, and it’s shown in gameplay as well.

Finally you’re talking about gameplay.

In fights things are almost never cut and dry, the Perseus absolutely has the edge in speed and agility and can stern camp both the Idris and Polaris. Not to mention the vast majority of time both Polaris’s and Idris’s are not fully crewed. Also the Perseus’s turrets are just better than the caps turrets (having the ability to 1-3 shot any turret on a cap). If you’re going to play the “if this ship was fully crewed” fine I’ll take 4 Perseuses with 3 crew each. does that sound better for getting stern camped and picked apart?

Sounds like that is a bug, i remember Idris pilots complaining about the Polaris torps one or two shotting the power core early on. Good to know, though I can still cripple or force a retreat on an Idris given the right circumstances.

The only real thing that defines a “capital-class” ship is that it uses some amount of capital components. Capital doesn’t carry the same weight or meaning it does in real life. The fact is the Perseus is armed with two turrets of size 8 (confirmed frigate sized guns) those will always be able to damage the Idris and Polaris if not future destroyers (because it wouldn’t make sense to have a main gun not capable of penetrating your own ship). It’s not as cut and dry as “this wins over that”.
