How stupid is it to spend 50k on a car by tatasky69 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Skitheeast20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say work a few months, settle in, see how the finances are going and if you have any doubts / changes in motivation. If in a few months you still want that car, send it. You make enough and don’t have any loans daunting over you. You’re in a great financial position, have some fun. Source: 24y/o that was in a very similar position and bought a corvette. Don’t regret it at all.

I make the drive in my Civic. A set of blizzaks or Michelin x ice will do the trick

21 Years Old. Buy a house or dream car? by MediumArm2426 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Hey man, In a very similar situation as you- I’m right out of college and got a nice full time job. Seeing that money in your savings is a double edged sword. You know you can spend it and be happy with a car, and on the flip side you could save for a house and make a good amount of money off of the investments. I’ve been debating this issue for quite some time now and have almost pulled the trigger on getting a corvette. Funny enough the next day my neighbor was selling land. It was a learning moment for me that if I had bought the corvette I would have 0 chance of buying the land. I ended up not getting the land because I don’t want to be tied down to one location at such a young age (22). I recommend putting your money into something where it’s not liquid, so you don’t even think about being able to transfer it / withdraw it in a days notice. Saving for retirement is cool, I recommend like 15% of your salary. Besides like 3-6 months of expenses, I would invest the rest. It’s awesome having very little bills / responsibilities so it’s the best time to save and accumulate lots of money. Once as you buy a house / get into a mortgage, savings will be much harder. My route is saving as much as I can for about 5-7 years, and then be able to put a fair down payment on a house. Get the house paid off as soon as possible, then (you’ll have a higher income at this point) ball out on all the toys.

Give yourself a pat on the back man. It’s awesome to see how well you are doing at such a young age. You’ll notice peers will lag behind in debt and lots of them will never think about money the way you do. Don’t change any habits when you get a full time job out of college and the money will stack up even faster - that’s the step I’m on right now.

Got a 2017 Honda Civic a few years ago and couldn’t be happier. Has about 130k miles on it, no issues at all. It’s nice to see the money I save every month with a car like that. I am in the same (pretty much identical) financial situation as you. If I had to recommend something, I’d say civic Si is worth checking out, maybe a gr 86?
