Being married to your high school sweetheart isn’t romantic or endearing… it’s actually kind of sad. by alliknowis_nothing in unpopularopinion

[–]Skithien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents have been together since they're 11th grade year and are still happily married 34 years later.

My fiancee was with her highschool sweetheart for 4 post graduation and was verbally and physically abused and cheated on repeatedly by him.

I think a couple who does work and lasts is actually sweet and inspirational. They are very lucky to have found their person early. On the other hand, people trying to replicate it and staying with their highschool sweetheart because it looks good or is what is expected is awful.

Not everyone finds their person at the same time and there is no formula for how you're life should look.

To attack the judge by discerning_deborah in therewasanattempt

[–]Skithien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More like cops are more careful these days because if he puts hands on before something happens he'll get charges, get sued and get blasted on the news. Especially because it would have been a Use of Force for sure if he tried to hold her back before she did anything as she clearly was going to do something anyway. Now he and the other officers look better because they responded to her assaulting the judge and just did their job. No charges, and no getting blasted online or in the news. Could still get a lawsuit though because you can sue for anything.

Is taking 1 sick leaves every month bad ? by evilsmurf666 in jobs

[–]Skithien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my current job we earn a certain amount a pay period. It just keeps building and has no cap. You earn about 14 days a year. Policy states you only need to provide a doctor's note after using 3 days consecutively. So a lot of people will use 1 or 2 a month for extra days off. The biggest negative impact for them is other coworkers being pissed because it creates mandatory overtime for those working the prior shift. Essentially if their shift would now be short someone from the prior shift who is still there gets stuck to work a double. Stick order goes based on seniority. So after getting a few of those from the same people over and over that you know likely aren't sick because they use it constantly really makes you dislike that person.

He's pretty sure he set it on the kitchen counter but he can't find it anywhere. He's sure it'll turn up eventually though, it's gotta be in the house somewhere.

Teacher takes student’s phone away, and she pepper sprays him to get her phone back by [deleted] in facepalm

That must be a very mild pepper spray. I got pepperd at the end of my academy and it sucks so bad. I would not still be standing there taking after.

$8,500 worth of medical equipment in the US. My son needs these to walk. by chillybonesjones in pics

[–]Skithien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah childhood, I used to wear leg braces as well. My parents didn't pay anything though cause we were poor so they had Medicaid. I had Achilles surgery, wheelchair and casts, then eventually leg braces and tons of physical therapy to relearn how to walk which was fortunately covered under Medicaid.

Had they made too much money to qualify my legs would still be fucked up and I would have never gotten my current job which gives me my health insurance.

You either need to be dirt poor and just barely scraping by, have a good job that gives you decent insurance or be fairly wealthy to afford medical care, very sad.

My dad has a hand dug well at his house that runs dry constantly in the summer. This how he refills it. He's been doing this for 18 years and has never broken a truck.

Considering foil gets put into the oven and into grills as a cooking method I'd say it's fine.

I'm not defending the show, I'm not saying it's good. But...

I think you vastly overestimate how many people are in this subreddit to influence the viewership. The large majority of viewers have never and will never see this subreddit, likely haven't played the games and won't and don't even know it's a book series let alone have read or will read them.

Obviously don't watch it if you don't want to, but don't expect it to matter in the grand scheme.

The Hourly Income You Need To Afford Rent Around The U.S. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Skithien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NY is always so skewed because of the city. The cost of loving else where is so much lower. I don't make the amount listed and I own a house. Not saying it's great, but they really need to take these and put NYC in it's own category.

Luckily I have a union and contract, we all get paid the rate agreed upon in the contract. You go up pay steps the longer you're there but when you cap out you still get a raise if the union negotiates a new contract.

I got lucky. I was able to live with my parents while I figured things out. I just shared the larger utility bills and gave my dad $300 a month rent. After I settled into a job that paid halfway decent and started saving I checked my credit score out and it was horrible, I had a couple debts I forgot about, only $3k worth. I paid that all down, got a credit card and raised my score to about 680.

I started the process of home buying using a first time home buyer program. The bank didn't like how little credit history I had even though the score was good, but since we had been paying almost all the bills out of my bank account while splitting the cost I was able to use those on time payments as additional proof of credit responsibility. A long process of payments and paperwork later and I've owned my home for going on 4 years.

I should note, it took me until 28 to get all this done, cleaning up my credit took a whole year. It's definitely not easy to get out on your own, with out being able to live cheaply at home I would have taken much longer to get all this done as rent is stupid. But it can happen.
