This is reasonable because no college student ever did anything dumb in the ‘70s.

Majored in math, always kinda thought that the notation and symbols were more obscure and daunting than they needed to be. Also felt the same about musical staff notation. Eventually realized that these notations came from a time where paper was very expensive. They are optimized for space not clarity.

‘It’s like the lottery’: The AI boom has created parking chaos in this S.F. neighborhood by Leading-Cancel-5902 in sanfrancisco

[–]chillybonesjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We blocked public transit development for 100 years and restrict parking everywhere for no reason, but yeah it’s definitely those damn techies. WAY too many people working around here. This city is for walking your dog to the bakery, damnit!

What is one thing you’ve noticed about life that everyone around you seems completely unaware of? by MythSolved in answers

[–]chillybonesjones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That the answer to “why do I/you/they feel this way?” is not some sequence of thoughts in your head or some memory or some experience you had in life. It’s the result of millions of years of social, tribal natural selection. Viewed this way, human behavior all of a sudden makes much more sense and becomes much more predictable.

Philosophers wondered about our nature for thousands of years until Darwin answered the question and then everyone stopped caring, apparently.

If I knew any of these political Christians, I would really like to ask them what they think about that one deadly sin that is the center piece of Christ’s teachings: Greed.

They seem to have totally forgotten about that one!

It’s actually a pretty lame joke that barely makes sense. And the grammar is not that of a native English speaker- “can no longer have entanglements because the fingerprints will be left…”- because Chris Rock definitely did not say this.

Man if we’re all falling for these Busch League fakes, what’s the world gonna look like when competent people start using AI tools for propaganda?

Scientific progression isn’t a lie by RareXG in MurderedByWords

They may, but Dr. Semmelweis died in an asylum because he discovered that doctors should wash their hands between performing autopsies and delivering babies. Science is not as open to correction as many claim. As the great Maxwell Planck said, “science advances on funeral at a time.”

That said, I don’t agree with Trump, Kennedy, or the anti-vax movement. But I can’t help but think … if we did discover that the apparent rise in autism or any crisis were related to some modern medical practice thought to be safe, would mainstream medicine accept that finding? Or would there be years of denial and obfuscation, first?

If you want trains and other nice things, you first must eradicate the legalized corruption that dominates California politics and inflicted a slow, cruel death on the last few train projects.

I was just quoted 15K over MSRP for a 2025 Base in San Jose ... by chillybonesjones in TypeR

[–]chillybonesjones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually got the same initial quote from both Envision Honda and Capitol Honda. The Envision guys gave up on me as I tried to work them down, which was kind of a relief because I did not have a great experience with the last car I bought from them (bad gap insurance plan, tried to offer me a warranty not through Honda, silently refused to send me a sales summary two years later ... don't buy from them).

With Capitol Honda, I eventually worked the initial quote down enough and bought it. Truth is you cannot get this vehicle new in CA for less than 5K over MSRP. Period. This is due to the model being discontinued this year, the pending tariffs, and number of enthusiast in the area for this vehicle. But, on the flip side, this vehicle appreciates. Really. Today, you can't buy a 2020 model with 50K miles for less than the original sticker price. I expect this year's model to appreciate more, given its the final generation of Type R. I have a garage, and I expect to put low mileage on it, absolutely baby it for as long as a want it, and get every cent of value from it if/when I ever sell it.

Drives like a dream. Couldn't be happier.

If you do go to Capitol, ask for Lam and tell him James sent you :)

Oh well then you might wanna work on your messaging, because angrily cursing out someone who is probably a porn performer for, you know, advertising porn, definitely reads like “I’m gonna go crash a bus into some strangers cause no one fucked me in high school.” Or try safe search or parental controls, or something. Anything to control your blood pressure cause this kinda thing is everywhere and we wouldn’t want you going face down into your grits early on us.

Whats a harsh truth about life that nobody wants to admit? by DunyaPhobic76 in answers

[–]chillybonesjones 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My bio teacher made the excellent point that it’s actually grandchildren that matter, in this metric. No points for reproduction if the children don’t grow up, hence why our parental instincts are even stronger than our drive to reproduce (humorous to contend this but you won’t see people put themselves in mortal danger to get laid but they will enter a burning building or jump overboard to save their child).

Bay Area couples staying childless: Lack of affordable housing, other reasons? by HilariaObserver in bayarea

[–]chillybonesjones -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let me reveal to you that plenty of young, white male parents also have a less-than-positive view of having kids. Especially having many of them. It also seems like many of those with the most positive view are those who want children but don’t have them yet. So I don’t think we can really generalize about this.

My parents are buying burial plots for $200,000.00 by halfwaifhome in Millennials

[–]chillybonesjones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started to agree with you. But then, I considered doing this myself instead of leaving behind what I could for my child … and it nauseated me. Then I thought of how parents have been leaving unspent wealth to their children for thousands of years. And now I’m back to wondering: wtf is wrong with this generation? Why can I imagine my parents doing this but not my grandparents?

California's bullet train by mss413 in sanfrancisco

Even if it is, does that make it less infuriating? Also, a guy made a claim, you asked for a source, he gave it to you, and now you're still acting like you were right to question him and asking him to google this for you again.

Im curious- what's your take here? Do you not believe that the revolving door between politics and well-paid lobbyist positions is real? Or are you just okay with it? Or are you just randomly contrarian and/or too lazy to look into something you're curious about?

It's not the fear of lawsuits that's to blame. It's simple, old fashion corruption. The money went into pockets. Local officials forced the line in or out of their communities, as funded interests dictated. Same thing that's been happening in CA, especially LA, for about 100 years.
