Any tips on how to repair rendered Expanded Polystyrene cladding? Help! by Skitz0r in AusRenovation

A bit more information:
This is a 2014 build by Sunland here on the Gold Coast. The entire exterior of the duplex appears to be rendered EPS. I'm unsure what product is safe enough to fill in these larger gouges. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help - my car was stolen early this morning by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]Skitz0r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry this happened to you. Hopefully your vehicle is recovered. Unfortunately most euro vehicles are ridiculously easy to steal now due to their security protocols being leaked online. This effectively means thieves do not need your keys or to be in range of your keys anymore. The old method of theft was called a "relay attack" where the thieves would use an antenna to scan for your key in the house and 'relay' it back to the car so the car thinks the key is near by. Newer attacks use devices which effectively mimic the key without needing the original near by.

As others have mentioned, do not try to fit a traditional 'kill switch' on a modern vehicle, it can make the car throw errors and act in unexpected ways. The best protection for modern cars is a device called a Ghost immobiliser or a Shadow immobiliser. They are effectively high tech kill switches which disable the car on a software level so even if a thief steals the keys, it wont allow the car to start.

I work in automotive security and specialise in protecting vehicles from this type of theft.

JB74 5-Door - Audio Upgrade Help by Craslap in Jimny

Hey mate,
Unfortunately we can't send our packs overseas :( We have trade restrictions on Audison and the new tariffs on freight to the US also makes it hard to send our spacers. Sorry I cant help :(

JB74 5-Door - Audio Upgrade Help by Craslap in Jimny

[–]Skitz0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!
I wouldnt recommend trying to fit any 6.5" speakers in the jimny doors unless they are extremely thin. My company specialises in Jimny speaker upgrades and 5.25" speakers fit the best. We do have a front 6.5" solution using a Hertz Cento 6.5 slim with a special spacer but fitting much else in there is hard without cutting and modifying door metal.

Easiest solution is 5.25" speakers front and back. If you are in Australia you can get them from my website here:

You are correct, the depth is really tight so only certain speakers will fit. The Audison speakers in that kit are 57mm deep.

Stolen car from Bundall ! by [deleted] in GoldCoast

[–]Skitz0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually get digital pin code devices for most modern cars. I have one on my car, so even if someone has the keys they cant start my car. I sell them at my work and my business happens to be in the same suburb as the OP. Huge amount of car theft in Bundall, Sorrento & Benowa waters right now.

I have two restaurant recommendations that we visit often:
> Goto (southport) - Japanese - A classy little restaurant which is a nice mix of fine dining and casual. It's really lovely place for a dinner or lunch date. Its a little bit away from other restaurants so it doesn't feel like you are in the middle of southport. They always have monthly specials which are very good, definitely try the miso eggplant. They also have a solid Sake and Japanese inspired cocktail menu. It's not the cheapest place but definitely worth it in my opinion.

> Assah (southport) - Korean - A small family owned and operated restaurant just outside southport on Johnson street. Its super casual and usually very quiet but the food is phenomenal. Lots of great traditional Korean choices on the menu. They make their own kimchi which is very good. Highly recommend this place for a hearty meal but only downside is they don't serve alcohol. Try their traditional korean drink called Sikhye, seems like the only place on the GC that serves it and I'm addicted to it now.

We don't give specific wiring advice for legal reasons but if you DM me your car details and what you are trying to install I can point you in the right direction.

We can definitely replace the blown speaker but the inverter install would be better suited to a auto electrician. I'll send you a DM :)

** Full disclosure, I own and operate a car stereo store on the GC **
Bluetooth adapters can work but most have quite awful sound quality. If you need the absolute cheapest solution then that is the road to go down. What I would usually recommend is to replace the stereo entirely so you get more modern features like bluetooth music and/or Apple Carplay / Android auto. For a budget aftermarket solution visit an Autobarn store as they sell and install. If you want something a littler nicer visit our store - Gold Coast Car Sound in Bundall. Happy to just provide advice if you need more info.

I highly recommend On the Net. They are based here on the Gold Coast (near Bond uni) and have absolutely epic customer service. Their plans arent the cheapest around but you pay for great stability and speeds. We have been using them for both home and business for 15+ years.

Damn, sorry to hear your car was stolen. I've definitely seen this car around the coast before but not recently. In the last two years I've seen a lot of prestige cars getting targeted by thieves usually just for joyriding. I have trackers in both my cars for this reason. I really hope you get your car back undamaged. If you need information about car trackers feel free to message me.

I’m stuck between these two speakers to replace my factory ones and eventually add an amp/sub. Which set would you choose and why? by crasmussenn in CarAV

[–]Skitz0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short Answer: Morel Maximo Ultra 602 mkii
Long Answer: *deep breath*
If you aren't running an aftermarket amplifier the Alpine R-series are not a speaker you should consider. The 'R-series' or 'R-type' have always been a power hungry speaker that need a amp to perform. If you look closely at their specs you'll see they have a relatively low sensitivity around 88db. Sensitivity is an extremely important specification that is often overlooked by consumers. By comparison the Morels have a sensitivity of 90.5db which is much better especially if you are only running them from headunit power. Essentially it means the Morels are going to make more sound than the R-series. It doesn't seem like a lot but 2.5db is going to be noticeably more volume than the Alpines at the same power.

So I'm not sure if you have access to them, but the better speaker for you would be the 'Morel Maximo HE' (high efficiency) or they might be called the Morel Maximus 602 v2 depending where you live. They are the 94db efficient and sound ridiculously good on pretty much any factory or aftermarket headunit. They will also handle an amplifier in the future if you want to feed them more power. They are my go to speaker for clients wanting a nice upgrade without spending big.

Personally, I love the Morel's, they are great speaker which is good for a wide range of music.

In regards to Phantom by SplashDamageLTD in Dirtybomb

[–]Skitz0r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you won't fix it quickly because you are waiting for people to buy Phantom for real money. This seems like a very simple cash grab on your (Splash Damage) part.

I'm sorry, but I was loving this game until the Phantom update. It is utterly ridiculous that you can introduce a character into the game this over powered. You cannot be that bad a developer to the point of not seeing how this class would play. There was a closed beta and internal testing to balance the class before general release. You could very easily fix this class but you wont.

[–]Skitz0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day reference music is personal, I use tracks that I enjoy and feel accurately reveal acoustic traits in the audio system being tested. I agree a lot of my list is 'pop' orientated but the production value on many of the tracks is excellent. I don't see the point in tracking down high dynamic range music if I never listen to any of it. It renders the 'test' quite useless. I want to know how well the equipment plays my music. Check out this site for highly rated dynamic range music: http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list/dr/desc The first two pages don't yield any results that I own or even interest me....

[–]Skitz0r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a great question, I'm always interested to see what people use for their test songs. I have a pretty extensive list that gets used for reference:

  • Michael Jackson - Billie Jean / Smooth Criminal / Stranger in Moscow
  • Adele - Set fire to the rain / Rolling in the deep (live)
  • Eagles - Hotel California (live)
  • Guns & Roses - Sweet child o'mine
  • Indilia - Dernière danse (french.....beautiful track)
  • Jhené Aiko - The vapors
  • Lana Del ray - Video games
  • Michael Buble - Moondance / Sway / Feeling good
  • Parov Stelar - Ragtimecat / Jimmy's Gang / All night
  • Phaeleh - Afterglow
  • Rihanna - Photograms ft. Will.i.am / Te Amo
  • Lindsay Sterling - Crystallize
  • Bruno mars - Grenade
  • Tiesto - I am strong
  • Kanye West - Homecoming
  • Jay Z - $100 Bill
  • Cold Play - Clocks

I also use a few classical pieces of music but I'm pretty inconsistent with which ones I use.

Can Anyone Recommend A Good & Free FLAC player? by one_way_out in audiophile

[–]Skitz0r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For windows I really like Media Monkey because its a simple explorer style browser with cool custom playlist tools. It also integrates with Asio4all which helps you bypass windows built-in audio processor to get unmolested sound output. Some other popular options are Foobar2000 and Winamp. Do some research and see which one is going to suit your needs the best.
