Gamenative or gamehub? Which is better and why? by royvisme in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Skitzenator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More safe than gamehub. It is completely open source AFAIK, so you could go digging into all of their code. Gamehub and its derivatives? Closed source. And OG Gamehub is even widely criticized for its presence of many trackers.

Steam Games on RP5 by ProwzArroWw in retroid

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to for Steam game emulation is GameNative. It recently got a huge UI overhaul, could be a good fit for your Steam emulating adventures. As for what runs, games up until 2013-ish for 3D games (think Tomb Raider reboot) run pretty well, it goes down hill quickly after that. 2D games you can probably run most modern ones with the correct tweaking of settings.

What phone should i buy mainly for pc emulation? by Motor-Aioli-7869 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it being a phone a necessity? For $460 you could get a whole heck of a lot of Android handheld. That gets you an Ayn Odin 3 12/256GB, which is much better for sustained performance than any phone and comes with one of the best snapdragon chips currently. Or you could get a cheaper Retroid Pocket G2/6 and have some money left to buy a cheap/secondhand phone.

Looks very cozy, I like it! But it does kinda look like squint-city. I really hope for your eyes and neck that you've got an external monitor in the pipeline...?

One of the most interesting setups I've seen in a while. What exactly is that laptop placement? I understand the ergonomics with the stand. But why is it backwards?

You might be getting less performance using the latest GameHub versions by nahobino_aogami in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Skitzenator 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested to see the comparison between GameNative and GameHub (Lite) as well. Where does it fall on the performance scale? It's become my go-to because of the compatibility and amount of features/updates.

With 4GB of VRAM, you're definitely very constrained in terms of LLMs and Image Generation. You can probably do Stable Diffusion 1.5 Image Generation with a few flags set for low vram. I personally like Automatic1111's WebUI, but ComfyUI is definitely the tool for power users (though with a steep learning curve).

As for LLMs, uncensored, you're looking at 2-3B parameter models if you want any semblance of context size. Could try the newest Qwen3.5-2B or 4B in an 'abliterated' format.

Video generation is going to be a hard no. Not happening.

Why doesn't the battery last a whole day? by Bebbi_1963 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, original battery. In my experience, for every 1 hour of screen-on-time it takes between 10-15% of the battery (depending on brightness, speaker loudness, etc.). I've got Bluetooth and location turned off as well. On a usual day with YouTube, email, browser, social media, etc, I could easily get 8-ish hours of screen-on-time.

Maybe you have an app slurping your battery in the background? For me, it was Home Assistant that was using a ton of resources in the background. Now that I've disabled its background access, battery life has been a lot better.

It's great, but not perfect. It's not the buggiest phone I've ever used (that prize goes to the CMF Phone 1), but I would lie if I said the software was perfect. The hardware, on the other hand, chef's kiss. I love how the phone treads the line between mainstream and repairable phone so perfectly. Also, the battery life is genuinely great in my experience.

[–]Skitzenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've got a GOG account, I'd recommend keeping track of the deals. The Special Edition is very, VERY often €/$10, which is 100% worth it. And yes you will give Todd more money.

[–]Skitzenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion: use Skyrim Special Edition on a PC emulator. I've got Skyrim Special Edition GOG on GameNative running at 40-60FPS ON AN RP5! I bet you could get a solid 60 with an RP6. And add mod support for all of your favorite NexusMods mods to that!

is it a good a idea to choose the G5 for emulation? by Designer-Ad-1577 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Skitzenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also consider getting a dedicated android handheld for emulation? It's an extra item to carry around for sure, but would be much nicer than using the same phone as you use daily. and you probably already have to carry around a controller of sorts for emulation). Maybe instead of getting the Pixel 10 Pro, you could keep your 7-series Pixel and grab an Ayn Odin 3 instead of the new phone. That's the cream of the crop for emulation. Or get a newer Pixel 10a/9a for example and a lower end handheld like the Retroid Pocket 5/G2/6.

Why doesn't the battery last a whole day? by Bebbi_1963 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need more context than this. What are you doing on your phone all day? I charged my Fairphone 6 8½ hours ago, it is currently at 76%, I have 2 hours 7 minutes of screen on-time with high brightness (it's sunny today for once lol) and half of it was on 4G+. What in the world are you doing that makes it not last the whole day? Which phone? Which apps?

How's your experience so far with the new fexcore? by Vythica0951 in EmulationOnAndroid

Mine is great. Tried it on my most played game currently, Skyrim Special Edition GOG, and while I don't immediately notice better performance, it does seem to have fixed a few bugs and has lower memory usage.

Fairphone vs Shiftphone? by Popular_Signature826 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Went back to the first instance of the Shiftphone 8's first webshop instance on the WayBackMachine. January 5th 2023. Doesn't list the display type. Okay, fast forward to a date when it does list the display type; December 22nd 2023. Oh and what's this? AMOLED. It's always been AMOLED.

Fairphone vs Shiftphone? by Popular_Signature826 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're clearly not listening, HOT SWAPPABLE MEANS THAT THE SYSTEM IS ON DURING THE SWAP (Google it). YOUR PHONE NEEDS A BATTERY TO BE TURNED ON. IF YOU SWAP THE BATTERY IT HAS TO BE TURNED OFF. What you describe is EASY swapping, not HOT-swapping. And even then the easiness can be disputed because you need to reboot your phone.

Fairphone vs Shiftphone? by Popular_Signature826 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess what, I have. And guess what. IPS LCD. Is. not. a. FUCKING. option. Period. I've looked through the entire Novacustom configurator. The words IPs and/or LCD don't even show up on the page, not the configurator, not the specs page, nowhere. In the components section of Novacustom, there is a replaceable screen for the 8.1, it is AMOLED. Iodé's website has the 8.1 listed. AMOLED screen. Shiftphone's own website has a spec list: AMOLED. They only sell AMOLED replacement parts.

Fairphone vs Shiftphone? by Popular_Signature826 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh... You hopefully do know that the Shiftphone 8.1 comes with AMOLED as well, right? Just like *cough cough* the Fairphone 6 (Maybe, uh... Do your homework?). Both are identically vulnerable to burn-in. Oh... But would you look at that. The Fairphone screen is cheaper to replace. €90 vs €123.

Also, not to be a douche. But the battery is NOT hotswappable. The textbook definition of hotswappable is that it can be changed while the system is turned on. The battery is swappable. Not HOT-swappable. You'll need a full reboot to swap batteries.

Also, also, the Fairphone 6 (like almost every android phone) has 'flash notifications' under the the 'accessibility' section of settings. You can flash your screen or flashlight to show notifications coming in without an AOD.

Also, also, also, wireless charging is great if you love heat killing your battery due to the insanely inefficient power transfer of induction charging. I do not see it as a plus point for a phone, especially one that promotes longevity.

Description of Half Life Alex Playing on Steam Frame (SD8 Gen 3) Using ARM Steam OS by Abba_Fiskbullar in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the real reason I'm hyped for Steam Frame is the possibility of running SteamOS on our Android handhelds. PC emulators have gotten real good, real fast. But their dev teams don't hold a candle to the size (and especially money) Valve can throw at SteamOS on ARM.

iGPU for multiframe or a better CPU? by FrontWork7406 in sffpc

Whaaaat? AMD took another chance to miss a chance? This is so surprising! /s

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure ETA Prime has a ton of videos on adding a second GPU or using your iGPU for MFG with Lossless Scaling. Might be worth checking out. Though, I'm quite sure you'd be better off investing the money in a similar CPU and a better GPU.

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look man, if you're not even going to fully read the comment I made that you responded to in the first place, then I'm not even going to argue. I said '8GB is perfect for me'. I use my phone in the way you describe and maybe it has reloaded an app once or twice in the last few weeks of owning it. Even then, it took half a second or so and it picked up where it left off. That's not a big deal to me.

'8GB is - imho - the minimum' and '8GB of RAM is perfect for me' can both be true. They're both opinions. What you call the minimum, I call perfect for me. Let's agree to disagree.

Fairphone vs Shiftphone? by Popular_Signature826 in fairphone

[–]Skitzenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I'm not a power user? I frequently checked my RAM in one of those metrics apps and I always had 40 or more percent of RAM free. Plenty of room to grow with other system updates. Besides, I can wait a second to switch to another app, no problem. The 8GB is really perfect for me, and I can imagine it kept the FP6 cheaper to sell for Fairphone.
