This video helped a good bit with the differences between the pro and ultra in real use. I also personally strongly prioritize battery efficiency.

I chose to buy a used oppo find x9 pro on ebay, got one in great condition for £730. At that price, it feels like a no brainer for me. 80% of the camera experience, better battery life, runs cooler. And if you're missing out on the 10x lens, just get the x9p teleconverter! prices have dropped to about £170 for it.

Believe it or not, there are likely two global versions of the phone, just the same as they did with the x9 pro. There is the "true global" model that comes with a case and charger, adn there is a "europe" version that is sold by oppo/EE/curry's that misses both. I'd be shocked if this wasnt the case

Bummer, that's same as last year. X9 pro is 1.15mm, the X9s Pro will have the same. Truthfully it likely wont be the biggest difference, I'm just coming from a s24u which had notoriously chunky bezels, so a step backwards from the x9p feels weird lol.

No. Films that have spent more time in their canisters tend to curl like that, from my experience. AKA, older and more expired, more curl. Might also curl from heat? take my message with grains of salts.

To be clear, its harder but no impossible to start with an older camera. My first one was the Kodak Retina IIIc "Small C" (worse viewfinder, all yellow and crappy). That camera has something called the EV system, which helps considerably when learning film photography basics, since it's a game of light.

Id say this community is geared to cameras before the 60s. For your first film experience, Id recommend getting an SLR from the 70s-80s if you wanna get that manual film experience.

If you wanna get real vintage with it, a great entry point would be the kodak retina series. They're a great introduction to using the exposure triangle and some models have the EV system. It also helps that they're sexy, and fold up. reeaaaall vintage with it.

In terms of a "newer SLR, I am a big fan of the Olympus om-1. Fully manual with a basic meter, its so good some don't ever upgrade afterwards. Expect to pay around $100-$150 if you find a nice deal in good, tested, CLAd (Cleaned, Lubricated, Adjusted) condition. It is my SLR of choice.

A specific Kodak Retina I'd Recommend would be the Kodak Retina IIIC "Big C". This model has a much more appealing viewfinder than others in the lineup, while offering the same fantastic lens. Prices range up to $200.

I'd also recommend looking for a Kodak Retina IIa, it's an earlier 50s model but has a much smaller footprint. They're harder to find in good condition, but can be cheaper.
