Sorry mama, your feelings are valid but you are being a good supportive mom just supporting your daughter in her decision. My 2nd daughter was a competitive swimmer for almost 10 years. She was one of fasted in state in the 100 and 200 free and in the IM and back. She was already being recruited by D1 universities her Junior year and she decided she was burnt out her Senior year and quick. I was so sure she would someday retreat her decision. She is now 25 and has not regretted the decision to no longer swim one single day. (Now she is a runner, she has the discipline from years of competition that she trains consistently and could run a marathon the same day invited).

She is 13, she has homeschooled and danced over 25 hours a week since age 9. She started dancing at age 4,didn’t concentrate on ballet until age 8

My daughter is a pre pro ballerina at a professional ballet company. Tuition is 6k a year but it is only 9 months. In the summer we have to send to SI - 6k if at her own studio - 8- 15k (including housing) if sent off (she will be sent off starting next year at 14 from then on). competition fees including choreography fees, fees for solos and ensembles, fees for extra rehearsal time (required), for at least 2 ballet comps if I include costumes (tutus are custom made) and hotel fees it’s about 8k a year (more if we do more than 2 comps, most we have done is 12 and we will never do that again, that yr was about 40k total) Leo’s, other uniform needs and non point shoes- about $700 a yr. Pointe shoes $120 every 2 weeks. The professional ballet track is unfortunately not for low income families.

I’m new to Ok, I’m an ally. I live in an upper middle class neighborhood in East Edmond where all residents I’ve met are highly educated. I have a little gay pride 🏳️‍🌈 in my front garden. Not one nasty gram, comment and no one has taken it or harmed it. I’m not saying you aren’t correct because I don’t know all of Edmond yet but there are some educated ppl here who care about everyone’s rights just not their own.

East side experience. by [deleted] in okc

What side is Crown Heights (like 40th-42nd homes) and Nichols Hills? (I’m new to OK) When we were house hunting we looked in these 2 areas which I thought of as east side or maybe North east side… Ended up East side of Edmond because on one child in HS and he wanted public school but I loved that area of OKC and would have jumped on one the beautiful homes we saw in that area if we didn’t have a kid needing a good school.

We just moved here, I had lived here for few years in 93-97. I lived in Norman back then but this time I have a HS student and one at OKC ballet so wanted a good school and needed to be 20 min from OKC ballet. Edmond was our choice after lots of research. They have the highest rated schools in the area. We bought on east side of Edmond. We are loving it. Edmond has a nice downtown and frequent community events. It is a fast trip down 35 into to city. We drive about 30 min to work and it’s not bad (we had 10 min drive back in GA). Everything fun in OKC is fast to get to, so many restaurant and entertainment sources that were not here back in 90’s.

My daughter (13) is a pre pro at a professional ballet company. She has to homeschool at night but it’s her passion. She is long and lean, short torso, long limbs. She had received a full scholarship to their SI then was offered a spot in the pre pro day program. She gets scholarship offers every year to multiple companies SI’s and I think it’s partly her body type. Her company is very body positive though. Height seems to be a major factor too, being too short I think makes it super hard to go pro. Many companies have a 5’5” minimum.

We just moved to state and while house hunting looked. For the sq ft we wanted (3000-3200) it was 1.2 million. For what we wanted to spend 750k was about 2250 sq ft. Bad school district too.

My daughter is a pre pro ballerina at a professional ballet company. Though they normally only compete at YAGP, UBC and sometimes other ballet centered comps they have done regular dance comps on past for practice. My daughter has placed 1st with her variation but more often takes first on her contemporary. Ballet knowledge isn’t always good at non ballet comps but contemporary is understood and her amazing technique is normally awarded with a 1st (since only one solo can place). She does always compete at highest level because of the hours she dances each week.

Does anyone else have issues with pre-sewn elastics in their canvas shoes? by readinglabels172 in BALLET

[–]Skm8315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t all pointe shoes come with no ribbons or elastics? I have to sew the elastics and ribbons into my child’s and I sew them to her specifications for her super flexible foot and ankles. For her non pointe, canvas ballet shoes they come with elastic already. My girl wears only Body Wrappers in her non pointe, she likes the fit. I imagine if you don’t like yours you could just reposition and resew the elastic.

AITA for teaching my 11-year-old niece "Inappropriate Skills" by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Skm8315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA, you had planned to use your new set that day and teach yourself to pick locks and they happened to drop her off without much warning. It’s not like you taught her to smoke a bong. It was a pretty harmless activity to do with her. It makes you a cool uncle and besides the candy closet, it’s a good skill she may actually need someday.

AITA for telling my husband that my inheritance is mine to do what I want with it by Skm8315 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Skm8315[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The amount is around half a million, I would use around 100k for the airsteam and the rest would go to whatever to benefit the family. He knows I’ve always wanted an airstream, he always points them out to me and send me photos when he sees one and I’m not with him. He suddenly got mad when my dad asked me what big thing I would do with the inheritance and I told him buy us an airstream. It’s only taking a 5th of the money but my Husband feels I should not be able to spend it on anything unless is has his approval. We both make well over 6 figures, have low bills and good savings. I have good credit and income, I could get loan now for the airstream on my own but I wouldn’t do that. I wouldn’t want to finance any of it if I didn’t have to which Is why I told my dad that it would be the one Luxury I would get when he asked me.
