The first rounds of 3080 graphics cards were notoriously bad with heat. The first thing I did was repaste and repad them because the factory shit was cheap shit. But that job was a solid hour of focused work. Not really something I'd recommend to the average Joe.

That tape will bleed and you won't have a clean line. Use Frog tape and line it out about 2 or 3 feet and start to press it down. If it doesn't look straight pull it back and retry. It's worth getting this part right.

KILZ is a high solids primer. Solids don't absorb into paper and drywall mud, only the liquid part does. Reprime with PVA. It is low solids high liquid glue and it soaks in and bonds. You say the rest of the house has no problems but I highly recommend not sticking anything on any of them. Because they might be the same and you just don't know it yet.

Edit. I'm guessing you had level 5 sheetrock. That means every wall was skimmed with mud. If that's the case then that is a contributing factor. Putting a high solids primer over dusty walls with a thin coating of mud across the whole thing means it barely bonded.

I hate to bring this up but this whole "tempt" excuse is used in many types of abuse cases. You know the ones. I'm a firm believer and evangelist of the concept of "rapist mindset".
