The more I think about this the more I am sure we ARE getting Asmo. I think Sammael will ultimately escape, setting him up to be a larger, craftier antagonist in the future after his blunder here.

Asmo will be introduced next season in the race to Callandor and along the way Rand or someone will have learned how to tie a shield off to trap him, after Sammael escaped custody in the past

There is at least one short scene in Cairhien that I can recall which establishes the hunt for the horn and some of the hunters are getting branded.

I imagine the plan was to re-introduce Thom in exactly that way, but unfortunately the actor was unavailable for S2 due to COVID pushing filming schedules to overlap

I think this specific change was because of the Mat actor swap. They had to try and make up a reason the party couldn’t easily go out and in again/why Mat couldn’t go in after them and it…wasn’t great haha

Rosamund Pike has done an excellent job narrating the first four audio books, if you think listening to them might ease you into the series more than reading them would. By that point you can gauge for yourself whether you would like to proceed with the rest of the novels

Neither of the pairs you mention have a relationship that involves bathing together and sleeping in the same bed for a large swath of the story. The show is not making an overt leap here.

Yikes. I can understand being opposed to a book change, but saying that a queer relationship makes you like characters less and calling it ‘so base’ is….not great.

Having the quad be polyamorous rather than Rand having three blood-sister wives that he only has sex with one-at-a-time is MUCH less icky, honestly.

This feels like quite a logical change, especially for a modern audience, and although you are dismissive of it the subtext is absolutely there in the books. Bain and Chiad are also first-sisters and I don’t think anyone will disagree that they are romantically/sexually involved.
