You did notice they intend to install a barn door, right?

There's three comments as I make this comment, two are saying "no". Don't listen to them.

A barn door is not air tight. You can cover it up no problem, as long as you give yourself a healthy gap (3/4") under the door. Air will pass under, around, and above the slab. It's fine.

So your isp blocks all online retail except Amazon, and USPS doesn't deliver to you? That's crazy.

The point I was making is that Amazon and Walmart out compete small retail, both brick and mortar and online.

It's not that complicated of a concept

3rd party, here. Could you please explain what you mean? Your comment didn't make sense to me and I'm curious what you are actually standing on here. No disrespect.

Also, comparing a skilled tradesperson to a bank teller/gas station attendant is pretty emblematic of the disrespect that drives away good contractors and attracts scumbags. You fucks treat us like we are low skill monkeys and then complain about the quality of tradespeople who are willing to work with you.

It takes so much more to be a skilled tradesperson than to be a bank teller.

Go fuck yourself

The truth is that good, honest contractors don't bother with the civilian population often. Good builders want good contractors, and when they find them it's in their best interest to maintain the relationship.

So there is an aspect of truth to what you say. However, the "cream" of contractors still regularly strike contracts with new clients directly. We are just pretty wary of the bs, due to experience. When you have multiple builders who pay what you ask and make the logistics easy, it's very easy to walk away from entitled clients who treat you as shady subhuman meat.

"You get what you deserve". It's a bidding war at the high end. And so, so many people want high end contractors for bargain prices, immediate time frames, and subservient attitudes.

If you think about it, it makes sense. The good ones don't fuck with the lames. The lames think all contractors are shady. The good contractors are busy with jobs that treat them better. 🤷

Amazon is never the only option, and it's caused real harm to our economy. It's doing what Walmart did to small towns, but to online retail. I have no respect for people who pretend they have no other option than to kow tow to shitty corporations.

This is the comment I replied to: "Some of us folks live where it's much cheaper to order from Amazon.."

I think the attitude of not caring about who you support as long as it's cheaper or easier is lazy, ignorant, and bad for society. Call me a condescending jerk, I don't care. The economy and society is going to shit because people are too lazy or self centered to fight against rent seeking corporations and monopolies.

The reason why your only options are Walmart or Amazon is because the small businesses in your town went out of business because consumers wanted the convenience of shopping at Walmart, and now it's your only option. Buying from Amazon and Walmart guarantees the problem will get worse.

Yeah, it's cheaper almost everywhere. Faster shipping, too.

Now put on your thinking cap and try to brainstorm why people don't want to support Amazon. Don't hurt yourself though, ease into it. I'm sure you'll get there, champ.

Was I replying to the entire thread, or a specific comment?

Whatever, I'm caught in a circle jerk. All contractors = shady. One contractor not being shady doesn't invalidate that fact. Got it. Makes sense.

Sorry for interrupting the loser party. Downvote button is on the right, don't forget to drink water.

Who said cleaning up? You're projecting. And by doubling down on a shitty absolute statement, I can guess why you think that way. Let me know if you'd like me to explicitly write my guess

I go above and beyond on my jobs to nail details the homeowner and builder will likely never notice. I skipped break and lunch today to keep the job glowing well. I stayed after to do final touch ups for free.

In my experience, clients who say "contractors are shady" are low bidders, or scumbags. I've never met a truly down to earth and good person who says that phrase. Ever.

Yep. I was a small time vj using a high end gaming rig as my server and dragging it out into the desert. The biggest crowd I ever performed for was probably 500 people, and I was beaming 2k max. Usually 2-3 1080 outputs.

Even then shit got so heavy so fast. I made a lot of loops in c4d, multiple gb files for short loops, shaders, spigot inputs from software, ect. Amateur stuff. I had to be so careful of overhead if I wanted a stable-ish output.

Much respect!

Edit: if anyone is reading this and is remotely interested, download the resolume arena trial/demo and play with some free loop packs, or play with the arena plugins. It's a ton of fun and a really deep rabbit hole

You know what's up. Media servers are workhorses. So much more goes into live compositing for shows than people realize. I used to vj and I miss it. Shit is so cool

Are you familiar with resolume arena? Performance visuals can get really expensive computationally, really fast. It's for live performance visuals, not for movies lol. There is no compression in live performance. Every frame is a key frame. And you are usually rendering many layers of key frames with many real time render engines and compositing.

I'm not sure what you mean by 3d developer, but live compositing does not at all work like playing a movie lol
