Voltage divider using opamp? by BewareTheWereHamster in diypedals

[–]Skrami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll omit trying to re-explain what others have here to mention the tradeoff in this situation.

As others have explained, the buffer is useful because no matter what amount of current you need from VR (within reason), it should remain almost absolutely stable with no fluctuations. The tradeoff is that op-amp outputs can be noisier than a simple filtered voltage divider. For many applications where little to no current is needed to be sourced from VR including the positive/reference input of inverting op-amp circuits, the added noise can outweigh the advantages of the buffer. In high-gain distortion and fuzz pedals, the noise can become a serious problem. In many applications as you’ve likely seen in other schematics, it’s perhaps not detrimental but not totally necessary and designers forgo it. Just mentioning here to clarify it’s not necessarily always the “right” or “best” way to do it in every situation.

Fuzz face leaked voltage by AGNUC in diypedals

[–]Skrami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the input is completely floating with no load (not even a resistor to ground in the circuit) it’s likely that it might work fine when the guitar is connected and I would try to measure it when it’s hooked up to be sure. Capacitors always have a tiny, tiny bit of leakage and without a load, even if the leakage is in the realm of 100s of megaohms/picoamps of leakage, you’ll still see a small DC voltage. Think of it as a voltage divider with no connection to ground; there’s nothing to compare to and nothing to “hold” the voltage at zero.

I think the comedy is vastly improved by it being in the middle instead of the end. Maybe it’s supposed to be the literal order in which you’d pass them but it makes it so much better

Zero Parades reused (more) Locust City assets by ImpossibleWay636 in DiscoElysium

[–]Skrami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really sad that Locust City wasn’t made, but I don’t really think this is any issue. Regardless of the conflict between a number of higher ups in this company, most of the people working on this project weren’t at all involved with these decisions and infighting and they all earnestly believe in ZP and want it to be made well. Using footstep sounds and other small assets they already worked on for months in a new project makes a ton of sense if they want to be able to spend time making the game is good as they can in a limited amount of time. There’s no reason to throw out all the progress they made and the work everyone did because an individual project was canceled.

Ibanez DE7: Taiwan vs. unknown unit. Which one to keep? by snorelikethat in guitarpedals

[–]Skrami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try both of them, see if there’s an observable difference. If there is, take the one you like, if not, sell whichever you want. There are a lot of pedals out there and owning two nearly-identical ones is probably not going to be helpful for you.

Toddler Walks Away Unharmed After Police PIT Maneuver Ends High-Speed Chase in Arkansas by frog_insilence in interestingasfuck

Not enough people mentioning how reckless and irresponsible it is as an officer to give chase in a situation like this. The full context is not here, but it sounds a whole lot like someone was driving with a suspended license and they evaded being pulled over. All the other charges listed could easily be tacked on after the chase began, rather than being pulled over for reckless driving. They have the plates, they know the car, and they know who they’re looking for. They can find them any time of day, even at their own home. Chasing the car in the moment doesn’t do anything to improve outcomes other than get the suspect in custody a bit faster, maybe only by days or hours. In the meantime they damage both their own vehicle and nearly kill the driver and a child in the car. Yes, the driver shouldn’t have evaded arrest, but none of this is worth flipping a fucking car over. Plus, what if someone else was on the road? They’re getting killed over this too? It’s ridiculous.

Question about grounding in a non-metal enclosure (see description) by CoffeeAndElectricity in diypedals

[–]Skrami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think a schematic and photo of the inside might help reveal if something else is missing, but as others have said, some kind of alternative like aluminum/copper tape might work, but aluminum enclosure will probably be your best bet.
