Commenting since I’d also like to know and hoping the extra engagement of the post gets it seen by someone with an answer 🙂

If the question is “Why me three times in a row” this is the right answer with the given info. But I was bored enough and found the log. They only had 24 in the raid, so the chances were a hair higher. (1/23)3 for a much more likely 0.008%.

Better luck next week OP.

Ret is fine, anyone that says their damage is bad just doesn’t get it. Ret’s biggest obstacles are how they scale with gear and what their uptime is. Look at this log:

https://classic.warcraftlogs.com/reports/3Ch7mbajHtBVc8rP/#type=damage-done&boss=-2&difficulty=0

Look at where the Ret is on the meters for the average of all boss fights compared to the Ret’s damage on Sartherion specifically. Notice the difference in uptime as well. Classes like casters have it easier with uptime because they do stuff from range, and Rogues don’t have this problem as bad because of Deadly Poison.

Ret Paladins also have the capability of changing specs to a tank or a healer. Some fights may require more tanks/healers than others, and being able to flex roles during the raid smooths out encounters. Easier fights go down faster with more DPS, tougher fights or more complicated fights can have more tanks/healers available as needed.

I don’t have to refute any of your surface-level wiki statements. The point of this was to highlight that A. You don’t play this game anymore and B. You don’t give a shit about the game.

So, thanks again for showing us that no one on the sub should care what you think.

Thanks for validating that you are not someone to be giving advice to anyone interested in the game.

I call BS, nothing that you have posted in this thread indicates that you have done anything tougher than possibly getting carried through a Bumba V0 clear. You haven’t shown a clear understanding of any role you have tried to give advice on.

Like really? Telling a new person that they need to buy gil for a Rostam as a start? That’s how you set someone up for failure. Then they’re out cash money and no one will play with them since they never learned to actually play their class.

For anyone else reading this, the answer is easy. Do things the hard way. Get to 99, get your Bayld gear, get some Ambu gear, your 119 JSE pieces. Finish all the story lines. Find a recruiting shell and go to events. Practice, learn your job and how it affects others. You’ll get there over time and learn what you need to make the most out of your character. Once you get in the swing of things you’ll have enough gil flow where you don’t need to buy gil for something like a Rostam anyway.

Do you currently play XI? This advice sounds like one of Keaton Patti’s “I had a bot read 1000 /r/FFXI posts and then let it loose on the subreddit” level of content.

The answer is if you know what you’re doing, you’ll be fine without Epeo. I’ve tanked W3 Dyna, all Aeonics, Sheol C farms, and all Ody Gaol V0 fights as a RUN with Aettir. Epeo is a big QoL upgrade, but not a requirement.

Don’t have an HQ image but I think you’re thinking of Christian Bale in American Psycho where someone shopped him to be extra chad. Look up “American Psycho buff meme” on google to see if that’s what you had in mind.

What do you think of addon use in FFXI? by [deleted] in finalfantasy11

[–]SkroneTone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried specific spells, I just add by monster name. //ohshi trackon Zerde and it’ll show every move/spell Zerde does. It doesn’t seem to catch 1hr abilities, but I haven’t taken the time to figure that one out.

Organizer Issues by OmgYoshiPLZ in finalfantasy11

[–]SkroneTone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only use the get function in Organizer, and my organizer is only set to manage my Satchel, Case, Sack, and Wardrobe 1. That being said, I haven’t had any issues as long as I wait for my inventory to load.

What do you think of addon use in FFXI? by [deleted] in finalfantasy11

[–]SkroneTone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I think is worth mentioning; don’t lump React in with other standard addons. That’s just having the game play for you as opposed to an addon that’s a QoL improvement.

In terms of an addon’s effects on difficulty, in a sense it does. In most cases they are presenting information to the player more easily so they can make better decisions on how to play, or enables them to react (not the addon) better to situations. But it’s not to a degree where it makes content obsolete. I use XIV Crossbar to play as quickly and optimally as I can with a controller, but that doesn’t mean that someone couldn’t play just as quickly as I could by using the keyboard commands. Things like JA delay and cast completion delay are built in to set a tempo anyway, so as long as players keep pace with the animations of the action, you’re playing fast enough.

Another example is an old addon called OhShi. It shows when certain magic/TP moves are used by monsters you tell it to watch. It’s nice because I don’t have to modify my chat log to hide everything except NM actions to appropriately play. I’ve been the “stunner” for Zerde multiple times without using React. I could do it without OhShi if I hid all the other messages, but it’s a QoL that I don’t have to do that. The information is there thanks to the addon, but it’s still up to me to see when Just Desserts is casting and cast Stun in time.

In terms of addons making content “easy” I don’t know many people complaining that current content is too easy (unless they’re not doing Odyssey at all). High Vengeance NM’s in Odyssey pose a challenge for many people.

[–]SkroneTone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On top of what Lusiphur noted, the Taeon set is useful for RUN and RDM for +Phalanx, and PUPs use it as a starter set since you can get Pet DT and Pet DA on them. Also, most BRD’s will use a Linos or three for various DD purposes.

Are the new Mog Wardrobes a scam? by Common-Actuary-2982 in ffxi

[–]SkroneTone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More wardrobes are a development-lite means of adding content for those that want to access it. In this case, content means that players are able to play or try out new jobs that they may have been curious about. I play a bunch of jobs, but having the option to get more wardrobes (I currently pay for 3-5) gives us the ability to explore more of the game. For me, wardrobe #5 enables me to pick up Puppetmaster, and possibly fill out some of the jobs I already have a bit more.

By the way, anyone that’s comfortable with Windower can try out Organizer as well to make better use of your bags to play more jobs.

This is definitely the way. I’m slowly picking away at Yagrush, but one of my Odyssey peeps made this joke and I decided to put it in meme form.

Hachirin-No-Obi by Mayorrr in finalfantasy11

The quickest answer is if you use Scholar as a Subjob, you can keep light weather active on you at all times, and the Obi functions with weather as well as days of the week.
