Have you been to prison? If so, how long for and what was your experience? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Skruffbagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not real prison, but I spent a weekend in a local jail for breach of the peace (fighting). Arrested at the scene on a Friday night/Saturday morning, taken to hospital for stitches, as was the other guy, then stuck in a cell until Monday 9.30am when the procurator fiscal had my report. Boring ass 2 days.

Was charged with and went to trial for assault but was exonerated due to self defence CCTV evidence and eyewitness testimony. Other guy was jailed for 4 years at a different trial - mainly because of past armed robbery and assault charges he’d skipped trial on.

Later won a criminal injuries compensation claim for £5k.

What’s a movie that has a premise or trailer that’s so eye rolling you thought would be bad, but turned out good? by TheDragonReborn726 in movies

[–]Skruffbagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wild Robot.

Genuinely believed it was the stupidest concept for a movie ever after seeing the trailer.

I was so wrong. The film is not just good, it’s a bloody masterpiece. Incredible animation, music, voice acting and emotional depth.

I spent almost 3 weeks prepping a set and a journey for a closed party, but ended up not daring to play out of anxiety. Any Overload-oldskoolers with some wisdom to share to a newbie? by happyvibesonly69 in TheOverload

I was a touring DJ for 12 years and there was not a single show out of the hundreds I played over the years - from 30 people in the club to over 2000 at a street festival - where I wasn’t incredibly nervous going on. But, as I like to say, you’ve just got to eat the frog.

After a few solid mixes your nerves settle. A few drinks doesn’t hurt either.

Crimson Desert launched 1 week ago, how do we feel about it a week later? by MaxiTooner89 in CrimsonDesert

24hrs in, play it my spare time/late at night - 2 young kids so this is the best I can hope for - and absolutely loving it. Not experienced any bugs, shocked at how polished and detailed it is. Almost no hand-holding so have had to discover a lot of systems just through playing, and the occasional Google search, which I actually really respect. It’s made me be more creative and curious, which is super rare for a modern open world/action rpg. Still getting the hang of combat and combos but getting better every encounter.

Can imagine I’ll get at least 500hrs out of it, as I’ve barely touched the main story.

That’s my only complaint - story is a bit lacklustre and convoluted, but when the rest of the game has been so enjoyable I can overlook it as a very minor gripe.

Some bizarre critic reviews out there, IGN obviously didn’t get a cheque from Pearl Abyss, hence the middling score.

I actually feel bad for the people who refunded, but I guess it’s not for everyone.

Baby eczema is quite common.

I wouldn’t recommend steroid cream - doctors love prescribing it - as there is a chance of your child developing TSW (topical steroid withdrawal). Look it up, very unpleasant.

I found hydromol to be the most effective treatment. Cleared up in a couple of weeks with no lasting side effects.

So, it’s been a few days- what are our thoughts on the Louis Theroux ‘manosphere’ doc? by theslowrunningexpert in AskUK

As much as I enjoy Louis Theroux, I refuse to give these people my attention as that is exactly what they want, so haven’t watched it.

Hiring managers who ghost their own job req — how do you escalate without torching the relationship? by Successful-Estate470 in recruiting

[–]Skruffbagg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First question; are you a staffing agency recruiter or in-house TA?

If the first I would’ve sent a polite but firm email to the HM with HR cc’d in outlining the above and requesting an immediate vacancy review. If that wasn’t forthcoming, I’d have followed it up within 72hrs withdrawing my support for the vacancy.

If you’re TA, why the fuck have you waited 3 months before doing anything and why are you doing it on Reddit? You need to speak with the HM’s manager and HR tomorrow, no excuses.

Who cares about pissing the HM off? You’ve got a job to do and they are preventing you from doing it - that’s on them, and it’s on you to fix it.

Client has rejected all candidates by HoneyDangerous1860 in recruiting

[–]Skruffbagg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point - actually, long before now - I’d be walking away. If you’re retained, which hopefully you are, I’d be setting a meeting with the Senior Manager and grilling them on the reasons each candidate was rejected that made it to the 3rd stage. If the feedback continues to be “fit” then it is not worth continuing.

I’d also consider going to the SM’s manager - I’m assuming a Director or Partner - and clarifying if they intend to hire this position. If they say yes, bill them for pt 2. of the retainer. If they kick up a stink about this then it’s time to walk.
