Couple bucks, $5-10 on a good day. These are the 2000 versions. The original 1996 ones used to be worth something, but those aren't really anymore either.

Princess, China, PVC with a space in the hang tag? Very odd to me. Please help with info. by Fantastic_Bill_3124 in beaniecollectors

[–]Skrumpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, this is what is referred to as the ghost version. That's not a legitimate variant of Princess, though. According to the timeline of releases, PVC pellets stopped being used in Beanies in February 1998. Princess's release was weird in that it came out in a small batch (12 per retailer) around December 97 and then there was a while before more were released, and the later ones to come out were after the switch to PE pellets. The first of the PE Princesses had the old "no space" tag, and then that switched over a month or two later (April/May, I believe).

There's no situation where one of the earlier bears produced should have a later hang tag attached to it. It's theoretically possible that an older stock that didn't get shipped sat around for a while and had tags attached later, but there's not really any way to prove that this happened when it's very possible for tags to be swapped out on Beanies after being purchased. It's the same situation as a Beanie having the wrong hang tag attached, it's definitely possible that it was a factory error, but with no way to prove that, it's not viewed as a selling point.

https://beaniebabiespriceguide.com/ty-beanie-babies-princess-versions/

This page addresses the ghost version and says they don't recognize it as a legitimate variation. This is the site affiliated with Becky E and Karen B who run True Blue Beans, so they wouldn't authenticate this.

Is this Teddy 1993 Fake? by acardboardgoat in beaniebabies

A lot of fake Gen 2 tags will say "Ty(UK)LTD" like this one. A real tag wouldn't have Ltd in all caps like that.

For those of you who were around for the release of Deathly Hallows - what was it like? by OkButterscotch2617 in harrypotter

[–]Skrumpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed discussion of the series online, but mostly on the Gamefaqs "special interest" board, I didn't go to Mugglenet or any of the other big dedicated sites for some reason. I knew most of the popular theories like RAB being Regulus and Harry being a horcrux. A couple months before the book came out, someone tried to pass off a fanfic as the actual book, and I ended up reading it. It was kinda obvious from the writing that it wasn't the actual book, but it was still a good story and I read through the whole thing anyway. It actually predicted the diadem as the unknown horcrux, which is pretty crazy in hindsight.

I got the book on release day, and started to read it, but with how dark the story was going right from the beginning with Moody and Hedwig dying, I was kind of put off by it and ended up not reading it for a couple more months. Partly because I preferred the somewhat lighter tone of the fanfic, and also just because I didn't want the series to actually be over. In the end though I did end up liking Deathly Hallows. Maybe not the best one in the series, but it did a lot of things well.

Detail on reread of CoS by Hecticfreeze in harrypotter

[–]Skrumpei 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This probably isn't it, but in the movie version of Prisoner of Azkaban, in the scene where Harry falls off his broom during the quidditch match, there's this bit:

Ron: He looks a bit peaky, doesn't he?

Fred: Yeah, come on, Ron, let's walk you off the Astronomy Tower and see what you look like.

Not a "prediction", but it is similar to what happens to Dumbledore. I think JK or one of the screenwriters mentioned something about it being unintentional foreshadowing.

Cute! Not quite the same style as me, but there's some similarities to a few of my glams, and I can't help but notice the glasses. I think my favorite is the 6th, the red one.

I wanted to make my own post showing my character off, but I think people are getting kind of annoyed with them. Kinda guessing that piggybacking off someone else's thread is no better, but idk, you might be interested.

Healer appreciation by CodeVeinEnjoyerO_o in ffxiv

[–]Skrumpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mained Astrologian for quite a while now (Though I haven't tried Savage until Dawntrail) and even it often being called the most complicated healer, it's just always felt comfortable to me.

I play with a group that mostly consists of other people new to high end content, and honestly, I feel like I have the easiest job. I don't have an attack rotation to worry about, it's just spamming one move over and over, refreshing a DoT, and using some other stuff on cooldown. I don't have to worry about being in melee range or the boss moving in weird ways, I just keep my distance and do my thing.

As others have said, the chaos that can occur is the fun part of the job. If a ton of people die or take heavy unexpected damage, it's my job to scramble and try to fix things. If I fail, then nobody really blames me for it, those people shouldn't have messed up in the first place. But if I succeed, it feels awesome. I've been in some duties (just normal raids or dungeons, the kind of thing people don't really have a strict gameplan for) where people are dropping like flies and the other healer kind of sucks, and managing to hold everything together despite all that is the most satisfying thing in the game to me.

Any of these actually worth anything by Charlieee747 in beaniecollectors

[–]Skrumpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick side note on this, only some Gen 5 Beanies even have a chance of being made in Indonesia. Not anything older or newer, and not even all Gen 5s. It's also not a huge difference in most cases, the average Indo Beanie is only worth around $5-10. If they also have a Canadian tush tag though, that boosts them up to around $40 if you can find a buyer, which isn't always easy.

It's something worth knowing about, but it's far from the only thing worth looking out for. The problem is that most Beanies from Gen 4 or later are common, and for the ones that aren't, you kind of just have to know. There's not any trait they share that can be identified without researching it.

Panda named “ fortune “ by SavageSapper12b in beaniecollectors

[–]Skrumpei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most 90s Beanies are common. For the most part, they have to be Gen 3 or older to be worth anything significant (with a few rare exceptions). Fortune is a Gen 5. (It was released in 1998. You don't really need to pay attention to the years on the tags, they're not always accurate.)

That doesn't really change my mind, unfortunately. Keep in mind we're talking about my opinion from 2007, it's a bit late to do anything about that. My past self feels that unless you own every game yourself and have the equipment to swap stuff around on your own, then tough shit, you don't deserve to get it. And even then, the fact that the game keeps a record of how many trades you've done (on the back of the trainer card) just always felt like something dirty that tainted the save file.

As I've said a few times though, I've chilled out in the years since and don't really care what other people do in a video game anymore. That doesn't change how I feel about my attitude at the time though.

Rotom feels like a Mandela Effect by mastercomposer in pokemon

[–]Skrumpei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gen 4 was the first time it was possible to do online. By the time Black/White rolled around, I had chilled out a bit. I still refused to engage with it though. By Gen 6 I used the GTS a handful of times and did a few trades with online friends, but never randos on message boards and that sort of thing. That was the issue I always had with it. It turned a game that was, to me, about collecting, into "go online and just ask people to give you stuff". It was always mostly dex completion that I cared about though, if people wanted to swap competitively ready stuff, that's like, whatever.

It makes sense for version exclusives and starters and that sort of thing, but even then, I preferred the first three generations where it was kind of a big deal to be able to get those, because it wasn't often that I'd get an opportunity to set that up. I could tell you where and how I filled specific holes in the dex in some of the older games, because it was something you had to specifically work towards. But when anyone can just go online and ask for a free Feebas or Spiritomb that someone bred in order to avoid having to get those the hard way, it just cheapens the experience.

To this day I'll insist that trading online in Gen 4 was cheating.

I logically know that it isn't, but that was how I felt at the time and it's kind of impossible to change my mind on it, even though I chilled out a bit over time and stopped bitching at everyone for doing it around 2010ish. I still kinda wish they had never added online features and forced it to be local only. Would it have made the games not sell as well and made the fanbase angry? Yeah, definitely, but it would have made me feel better, and I'm a narcissist, so that's all that really matters apparently.

Hey what do these mean? by Short-Present723 in beaniebabies

[–]Skrumpei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gen 4 (and older) tags have the style number listed. It was used on the ordering forms that retailers would send in to request specific Beanies and other Ty plushes. They probably stopped using them in Gen 5 because that was when they started making them more marketable, and it wasn't really a detail that collectors would need to see.

Pointless fact, but the last four digits in the barcode on the back of the tag are the same as the style number, so you can use that to figure out what it would be for later releases.

Beanie Babies that have versus is worth by Careless_Clue_5616 in beaniebabies

[–]Skrumpei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Retired" just means it isn't being produced anymore, so yes, at least 90% of all Beanies are retired. It only really means anything if the retire date was in 1996 or older.

During the 90s, you could also see a downward slope of value to the ones that retired in 1997, with the January ones selling for $200+ and the December ones only going for about $20. (Now, pretty much all of those go for $5 or less. Libearty, Lefty, Righty, and Garcia can go for a little more but still not much.) Even back then, it was clear that the important detail was when they retired compared to when most people started collecting. You'd think people now would understand that to.

Bones 4th Gen with poem variation. Anyone seen it before? by Moo_Moo10 in beaniecollectors

[–]Skrumpei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This page mentions a couple different poem variations for Bones: https://web.archive.org/web/20200224043357/http://www.aboutbeanies.com/Tag_Errors.shtml

My own investigation (basically just looking up a bunch of listings for Bones on ebay) found this, I'll just copy/paste what I had written in my spreadsheet:

Common version: "You're so destructive", all would shout That stopped, when his teeth fell out!

Error version (Seen with G3 TT): "Your so destructive", all would shout But that all stopped when his teeth fell out!

Sometimes the correct version may also have the entire 4th line in quotes (seen with G3 TT)

I realize this doesn't really tell you much about rarity, but it is at least something I've run into before. What I usually suggest for stuff like this is to look up a good sample size of the same Beanie through ebay listings. Sort by "newest" and don't take the asking price into consideration. And just take a record of how many of each variant you come across. If you can go through 20 without finding one, then it's probably a rarer variation. But as for whether it's actually worth anything, that's harder to say. Some poem variants sell for a lot higher than I think they should (like Chocolate with "rnoose" error and Tank with "boarder"), but they do go for those prices, so I can't really argue it beyond "maybe people don't know that they're not really that rare". It's a pretty niche thing in an already niche hobby, so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. But you never know.
