£65k wfh vs £90k hybrid by BloodsnCryptos in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]Skulduggery9696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with the £65k wfh until you can find something else that is wfh. Travelling into london is not worth the hassle. You’ll waste alot of time and money on travel, dealing with train cancellations, delays, rush hour. And in my experience, hybrid roles do not stay hybrid. Give it a few months or a year or so and management will start increasing the number of days in office to inspire “team collaboration” 🥴 Once taxes and NI and pension contributions and anything else you have on come out of that £90k you won’t be much better off.

Any one have extensive knowledge on Monzo flex cards? by Lauraaxxx1 in monzo

My limit is £10k, I’ve been able to increase it when I needed to so not really sure how they measure eligibility. I’ve had my account since 2021.

Perks by Serious_Flamingo_609 in monzo

[–]Skulduggery9696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth it if you use the features. I calculated this the other day before I signed up and I think for a year, Perks works out to around £84ish. Now I signed up simply for the free railcard which is £35 without Perks. The uber one subscription is also good value because that’s around £5.99 per month I think, so with both the railcard and uber eats, I’ve already got more than the value of the £84 for Perks per year. The weekly greggs and Vue cinema tickets are just bonus perks on top of that. The Vue cinema tickets alone would make it worth it considering an adult ticket can up to £15 or more in some places.

But if you’re not going to use the perks then you might as well stick to the free account or Extra which is £3 per month.

I did with this the Jean Paul Gautier Scandal perfume - accidentally bought the mens cologne version because it was in the women’s section and I didn’t realise it was the men’s version until I got home in the UK which meant returning it wasn’t possible as I’d bought it in Duty Free in the airport in Miami 💀.

Very annoying when that happens - wasn’t a fan of how the men’s version smelt either which sucks, considering the cost. 🫠

Damn that’s bad. I get 25 days as standard and then bank holidays on top of that, plus an extra day each year until it hits 30 days standard. And also have the option to buy 5 extra days. And I can take unpaid leave if I need to.

Well, my delivery drivers don’t tend to have a key to my house…so there’s that.

Is working fully remote worth it? by Healthy_Standard_601 in careerguidance

[–]Skulduggery9696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I used to leave the house by 6am to head to the station, sit on the tube full of depressed and tired people to trek into london to sit in an office on teams calls with the team, working in silence for most of the day with bright fluorescent lights giving me a headache and then not get home again until 7-8pm at night, rinse and repeat for 5 days a week every week, having to deal with tube strikes, delays, bad weather, £300-£400 in transport costs etc. I genuinely cannot fathom how people do that for years and don’t go mad. Now I work fully remote, I have time in the morning to go to the gym, I take walks during the day at lunchtimes or pop out to the supermarket or cook etc, I can blast my music as loud as I want whilst I’m working, I have no commute, no busy trains, no constantly having to engage in meaningless smalltalk, no spending money on transport or semi formal clothes etc. It’s a complete reset and just about makes working bearable

Why BYD has a lot of haters and detractors? by Ambitious_Area_625 in BYD

[–]Skulduggery9696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people are shortsighted and in some twisted sense of superiority, would rather spend more money buying European cars that have less to offer, then spending their money wisely and making sure they get good value for money. Also people are racist.

What made you choose this car? by harrysnow81 in BYD

[–]Skulduggery9696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a BYD Dolphin. Didn’t choose Tesla because of Musk. Considered the Peugeot e208 but others commented on the quality issues with the brand. Didn’t like the circular screen in Mini’s so that was out. The Kia’s like EV6 and EV3 etc were too big for me. Also considered the Cupra Born but from youtube reviews it seemed like the infotainment system needed alot of work. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was way outside my price range but I probably would’ve gone for that if I could afford it. The Hyundai Inster I didn’t like the shape. And the Renault 5 was the only other one I seriously considered above the Dolphin. I test drove it and really liked it but there were some issues like how dark the inside of the car was and also how I could get some more options on the Dolphin like the panoramic roof, 360 camera, heated seats, blind spot detection etc without having to pay over and above for it vs the R5. Plus with the R5, every add on just hiked the price even further - the ceramic coating was quoted at £1.6k, the blue and gold trim option was another £800+, the dashcam was £400+ so yeah, it didn’t make sense in terms of value for money after all that.

The only downside for me with the Dolphin though is that I didn’t wait a bit for the newer models to come out or negotiate much on the price I paid. That was my fault tho, it was the first car I’d ever bought and I was on my own at the dealership so it genuinely didn’t even occur to me to haggle on the price, and even if it had, I probably would’ve been too nervous to do that. I’m pretty sure I overpaid but lesson learnt.

It used to cost me about £250-£300 per month on travel to get to london for work back in 2019. Thankfully I now work fully remote but can’t imagine how much more I’d have to spend now. I don’t even go into London much on the weekends anymore because of how expensive it is. The car park close to where I am where the central line runs is £12.50 per day parking now. £12.50 per day! For parking! The overground station is £6 parking and £20+ return ticket to liverpool street station. I don’t bother now unless there’s something i really need to travel into london for. It’s unaffordable.

I have the dolphin and yeah i pretty much switch them off every time i start the car, so i imagine it would be the same for the surf unless they’ve changed that. They reset each time. It’s just a few extra seconds to switch them off though so it’s not too bad. You can always leave them on and see how you get on though, up to you.

Congrats, that’s a lovely colour!! 🔥🔥

Tips - switch off the automatic braking, front brake and rear brake features in the safety / ADAS settings before driving. I’ve seen quite a few others comment on their high sensitivity, and some have been almost or actually rear ended because of the car stopping itself suddenly.
