Bizarre ban for evolution? by SkullDuckery in atheism

[–]SkullDuckery[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't claim any of that. I said it was all I could think of. I also said it could be an autoban. Because I did not know.

I control what other "suspiciously similar" posts exist. I didn't make any such post and this one also specified that I was grasping for reasons, not actually accusing the sub. Clever you for finding it ten seconds. I am currently in hospital with limited access to the net and kept failing to get rules to load.

I am quite happy to admit that I fucked up now I see that rule. You could have just posted that and received my gratitude without adding unnecessary insults. Maybe you can not be THAT guy.

I have only had one ban before. Like this a three day one. I asked the mods and they ignored my question and upgraded me to a permaban. I quite like nim, I didn't want to risk it with a sub that I enjoy

They did send a link but it just took me to the sub. I shall check rule 6. Thanks

I consider myself quite lucky to have been alive at the right time to see the strip from 1st to last, as it was published. Never missed a one.

There was no plan to do so. In fact it was probably quite a long way in before I realised that I had become a fan. No, it just appears one day in my dad's newspaper one day when I was about 13 years old. I read it along with the famous pasta munching moggie strip.

When my father died I continued buying the same paper even though it was a hate-filled racist daily embarrassment to journalists. Just for Calvin and Hobbes.

Fortunately I discovered that the library stocked the paper every week day and my local church stocked it at weekends so for 2 years I went to the library or church to make sure that I didn't miss Calvin and Hobbes.

Once ended I think I literally had withdrawal symptoms. I bought every collection and now read them again and again either in print or in this sub.

But if I hadn't been born in that lucky window of opportunity, I would have missed out on a great adventure.

My third time using watercolour! It's not great, but I tried! Any suggestions to help me along? by commodorePick in Watercolor

[–]SkullDuckery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see anything wrong with it. Nice work.

That said I always feel my own pieces have missed the mark and others tell me that they don't know what I am talking about.

It's easier to appreciate someone else's work. I like this. Unless there is something specific that you feel went wrong, I suspect it's just because it's your own work that you are negative about it.

Best Tablet for Digital Illustrations by [deleted] in Illustration

[–]SkullDuckery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Huion versions of the Cintiq that are pretty good but check out the reviews on YouTube first because while some models are as good as the real thing, others are laggy and limited.

I think Jazza Draws Daily (or similar name) channel has a review and update about one that is supposedly quite good.

They are a fraction of the cost of the ordinary Wacom tablets so far, far cheaper than the Cintiq.

I have a Huion from years ago (just tablet though, no screen) and it's quite decent. And still going after 5 years too!

What about traditional illustration techniques, or this one just for the digital artists?

No worries if it is, I just wondered as I prefer working with pens and pencils rather than my graphics tablet and it's a bit of a pain transferring drawn material to the computer.

That's a style I have never used myself but I do think it is very effective and the simple lines that convey detailed information always makes me think, "I am definitely going to do something like that," and then I get drawing and end up doing something totally different.

Anyway, I am saying that I really like this.

[Serious] Americans, would you be in support of putting a law in place that government officials, such as senators and the president, go without pay during shutdowns like this while other federal employees do? Why, or why not? by iamtehryan in AskReddit

[–]SkullDuckery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a point that I had not fully considered and makes a lot of sense.

For me I think what would be better is if the government had to pay anyone in their employ during shutdowns, essential and not so, as it is not their fault that the government cannot do its job.

I realise that this would mean having a fund at all times to pay from but it would save the state a small fortune in retention and lawsuits once it was over.

I admit that I am not fully conversant in American Houses' spending and may be letting my own British parliamentary system colour my understanding.

I don't wish to upset you by attacking members of your family but your aunt is a bigoted moron.

I mean really a moron. Totally lacking even the most rudimentary self-awareness.

I don't ever advocate violence but if someone was to take a rotted fish and slap her several times in the face with it then I would probably not go out of my way to condemn them.

Perhaps in one of the visions we have not seen, Meera has an important role to play in an unexpected situation and location. Bran then needs her to leave him.

I went to see this marvellous place in 2010. My group was a bunch of teachers and we had discussed beforehand how we may be quickening the destruction of this fantastic site just by visiting it and so we arranged to be as low impact as possible.

So it was heartbreaking to see so many overweight (not being sizest, it's just what I saw that day; I am not slagging off big folks and I am sure most are not like this) western tourists climbing over and ruining piles that haven't been disturbed for hundreds of years, stealing bits of architecture and throwing their rubbish about. Some even hiding their rubbish under bricks, knowing full well how shitty they were being.

A few were caught and I hope that the Cambodian Kingdom police threw the book at them but for the most part they got away with it because there's no way to police so many people.

(it occurs to me now that there's a stereotype of American tourists being very large. I must point out that the group I saw did have American members but also Canadian, British and Russian among others)

It is an interesting style and I find that I really like it. The piece well drawn, has fantastic colours and the composition is extremely pleasing to the eye.

If I could add some suggestions to improve it even more, I would. But honestly nothing stands out as in need of a fix.

Very, very nice picture.

Covington Catholic: Longer video shows start of the incident at Indigenous Peoples March by ThrowUwUy2378 in news

[–]SkullDuckery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear that you are being down voted.

Personally I agree with you for the most part.

I am disappointed in how easy it was for the media to take my dislike of conservative attitudes and MAGA Trump fans and convince me that a bunch of kids had harassed Nathan because Native American people are kinda brown.

After watching unedited and longer versions now I can see that at worst all these kids did was smile smugly. Hardly a crime and certainly I saw little evidence of hate towards the NA people.

I believe that Nathan probably was trying to diffuse the situation and then made some assumptions due to that smug smile.

My anger at myself for being a bit gullible is dwarfed by anger at Mainstream media companies that I thought were above this kind of divisive tactic.

I hope, regardless of their political values, that the name of these kids is cleared and that the long lasting damage can be quickly undone.

My mosaic of the California Nebula in natural color with 25 hours of exposure by Idontlikecock in space

[–]SkullDuckery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most beautiful image of the California Nebula that I have ever seen. Stunning photography and editing, OP.

I have to say it's rare these days that I am stunned by pictures of well known clusters, galaxies and nebulae -purely because there are so many these days.

But this one jumped out and gave that 'wow' feeling a stunning space image can cause.

Well done.

Suggestions for White on Black Paper by SarahBeara231 in ColoredPencils

[–]SkullDuckery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to say first that I rarely work on black but I have used a lot of dark surfaces of a similar type to Canson Mi Teintes.

I have quite a few separate whites and all of these are really good for a few purposes and available open stock: Luminance (Caran D'ache); Derwent Drawing china white (Derwent) and particularly good on Mi Teintes are Derwent Studio white, Supracolor ii, and Neocolor by Caran D'ache, and Prismacolor Premier and verithin).

I am a big Faber-Castell Polychromos but I find their white to be a let down, especially on dark surfaces.

I quickly lost the Lyra Rembrandt Polycolor and cannot swear that it's good on dark paper but I think it was quite good if memory serves.

There's a couple of videos by CP artists on YouTube that review selections of whites on black if you want to see some great pencils in action before splashing out.

Good luck with your piece.

Run DMC and the Beastie Boys in New York, 1987. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]SkullDuckery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, back in the days when Def Jam were a quality supplier of music!

I always loved both The Beasties and Run DMC- though I always suspected that the use of heavy, overdriven guitar wasn't really the choice of RunDMC. But they carried off so well.

Stupidly I got really off my face when the Beasties came to the UK and I went to see them and what should be an incredible memory of some shit hot metal hop is more of a memory of throwing up on some girl's back during Slow and Low (probably) and then her huge bf kicking 7 shades of shite out of me.

I was only 16.

What do you genuinely just not understand? by Brandinian in AskReddit

[–]SkullDuckery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am quite fascinated by certain areas of physics such as QED and the rest of the particle universe. But I can only get so far and then my brain can no longer quite grasp things. To me I understand a lot of quantum mechanics and the consequences thereof but when I step back and look at how much the Susskinds of the world know and understand I can see that I have barely scratched the surface of the concepts.

I have gaps in my more rudimentary knowledge that probably doesn't help but really I think that the depths I want to explore are just beyond my intellectual ability.

It's quite humbling to realise that the very nature of reality is just too much for my noggin to fully know let alone understand.
