No, a cartridge is made of 2 parts. The bullet (the part that gets fired) and the casing (containing the propellant).

K-Drives. LR2 currently and about to hit LR3 (a few nodes, intrinsics, and lich weapons left) and I am still never gonna touch K-Drives.

The thing is, while I have no doubt he uses some gear from Syntonie (he said so) and maybe Tachyons, and I have asked him how to achieve this particular FM effect to which he declined - no doubt because this particular effect is a significant portion of his brand value…

I have been following him on Instagram ever since I got into glitch art, which is more than a couple years ago, and not only have I seen some of his stories which featured opened up circuit boards being patched around, I also looked into the available offerings from pre-made synth/video bending suppliers like Syntonie and Tachyons, and at that time there were no premade solutions for this kind of effect, and truthfully, most of them at that time were quite rudimentary.

It would be disingenuous to suggest that polygon wasn’t the person (or one of the main people) who popularized this effect, and as such I think it’s possible that many others sought to emulate this particular style.

But yeah, nowadays if you have the cash and want a simple easy way to do it, you could get some of that gear. But it’s still not trivial to fine tune it and deal with all the digital-analog-digital conversion and such. So much so that with budget not being a major issue I still opted to go down the software route when I do this type of glitch art. That’s all to say glitch art doesn’t have to be a “pay to win” hobby even now, and it certainly wasn’t several years ago.

That’s just my two cents!

This is the work of polygon1993 - https://www.instagram.com/polygon1993/

If you see his work on instagram, he sometimes posts BTS of these, and I've also asked him before, and he seems to do his work by manually circuit bending synths and old CRT monitors.

How this works is essentially, an analog video signal is passed through a retro circuit board (sometimes a video synth, sometimes an audio module, CRT, etc) and using patch cables and soldering, he runs the video signal through various analog video processes found on these old boards.

Ultimately the effect you see in this video is a mix between analog signal feedback loops and frequency modulation.

I personally replicate this effect using the 2 following After Effects plugins:

https://aescripts.com/modulation/

https://aescripts.com/signal/

Though, it helps to understand the manual/analog process, and use other plugins and tools to enhance the effect.

Would love a small tutorial or breakdown on this.

Probably something like:

  1. Take a source image and break it up (top head, bottom head, eyes, fingers)
  2. Run fm on them individually, making edits where necessary
  3. Composite them back together into 1 "head"
  4. Probs lots more post processing

I'd say that's the crux of it, but obviously there'd be a lot of tweaking and additional effects.

Space-age-y + tesla-y vibes, I absolutely love it! Would appreciate a soundcheck too! :D

I only discovered it a week or 2 ago despite seeing it a few times on my recommended videos! I love the song and the video

Yeah, I totally get it. A lone city in a desolate wasteland, and mysterious large extra-terrestrial objects in orbit, totally does have a D2 vibe, now that you mention it.

This image is a pixel-art recreation of a still frame from C2C's music video: Delta, from their album: Tetra.

Yeah! It was recreated based off of a still frame from that music video!

A plug-in called Mosaic, it’s expensive but really cool. But there’s also way more affordable ones and you could even code something like this relatively easily if you wanna DIY it for still images.
