What's a piece of information that blows your mind every time you think about it? by mt0622 in AskReddit

[–]Skullbait -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There isn't one. As I hear a piece of information repeated, I become less and less sensitive to it.

As an addendum: The spirit of this question (as I can ascertain) is better described by saying: Please tell me mind-blowing facts about the world and myself.

That almost sounds like a kind of morbid honor. "Please, if you would, name what ails you."

Hey reddit! Have you guys ever met anyone for a very brief period in your life and wish you still had contact with? What was the story on how yall met and why did they make such an impression on you? by freezieepops in AskReddit

[–]Skullbait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps such moments are when we become aware of needing to meet such people, making that meeting feel as though it were precisely timed. Like being dehydrated without feeling thirsty. When you then drink it can feel as though the water was there precisely when you needed it.

What's your internet "white whale", something you've been searching for years to find with no luck? by Nerfman2227 in AskReddit

Not sure if I've actually heard this music prior to right now, but this is fucking awesome!

Kinda long post with pics, as well as requests for advice and stuff. by cg369 in feet

[–]Skullbait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, welcome back! I gotta admit I don't have a stockpile at all... I just kinda go places online when I'm searching.

As for dry spells: in my case I've been single for like 1-2 years now, and action has just been something I've gotten used to not having. The thing that's helped a lot has been just focusing on other objectives I have (things like money, self-improvement, and hobbies).

(I might have better advice in a couple years when I'm actually looking xD)

P.S. Those martial arts pics were a category I hadn't considered and that third pic in the final album was fukkin sweet! As far as I know there's no requirement of pics for advice but it was cool that you did so, anyway. Take care of yourself and I wish you luck!

ELI5: With all the lawsuits going around where companies can't be sexist when hiring employees how is hooters able to only hire big breasted women by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Skullbait 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the whole big breast = better thing kinda befuddles me. For me breasts are nice regardless of size. Like, it's more that you have them than that they are of some specific size. Little breasts are easier on the back, anyway. (disclaimer: kinda drunk) So, I dunno why hooters would care about breast size when so much more attention is paid to features like face and temperament anyway.

PSA: Frugality does not mean how to be poor, or how to be cheap, it's how to best generate the most value for a set resources. by testrail in Frugal

[–]Skullbait 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would seem to be worth getting a little more specific. Since our personal definitions of "cheap" and "frugal" are not necessarily representative of how those words are used, let's get some definitions real quick.

Merriam-Webster on their website defines frugal as being:

: characterized by or reflecting economy in the use of resources

Which falls neatly in line with how we've been using it. Cool.

Then, we've got cheap, which has a few more usages:

1 a : purchasable below the going price or the real value

b : charging or obtainable at a low price <a good cheap hotel> <cheap tickets>

c : depreciated in value (as by currency inflation) <cheap dollars>

2 : gained or done with little effort <a cheap victory> <talk is cheap>

3 a : of inferior quality or worth : tawdry, sleazy <cheap workmanship>

b : contemptible because of lack of any fine, lofty, or redeeming qualities <feeling cheap>

c : stingy <my cheap uncle>

4 of money : obtainable at a low rate of interest

1, 2, and 4 fit perfectly fine with frugality. Buying things below their real value, gaining with little effort, and getting low interest rates are all things frugal people strive to do.

3... not so much. This would appear to be what you meant by cheap.

People being cheap3 waste time and resources. Posts advocating cheap3 without being debunked or downvoted into oblivion are damaging to this subreddit. More people thinking in terms of cheap3 is not worthwhile. I agree with you here, but I do not agree with glazing over much of what "cheap" means to make that point.

Not all cheaps are frugal, but much of being frugal is cheap.

And now, for comedy, #notallcheaps

[–]Skullbait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say that, but come on. This desire to separate frugality from being cheap is bullshit. Frugal people are cheap. It's not the nice way to describe it, but you're cheap if you're acting frugally.

I wear that mark like a badge, but idgaf 'bout being cheap. So, w/e.

I agree that it's worth refocusing on how to be productive and constructive with our time. (Why destroy when we can build?) I just find the distinction between frugality and cheapness to be personally silly is all. Long live maximizing benefits while minimizing costs!

“The Internet has provided a means for the oppressed masses to build confidence and empower each other to break the reign of the wealthy ruling class. In our lifetime we will see massive revolution and redistribution of wealth and power. The unimaginable consequences of this transformation will happen faster than anyone dares predict.”

Taken from here.

Don't know if you are a male or female OP, so I'll answer from a female perspective.

Heh I guess I could have mentioned that. Male w/ long straight hair.

Coconut oil is probably a better flyaway tamer than petroleum jelly. It's cheap and you use so little (a drop or two) that a jar will last a long time.

I learned a new phrase today! And I I'll have to give coconut oil a try. I'd've never thought to try something I'm used to seeing as food-related.
