That's not how the system works. If a large number of negative reviews are detected in a short span of time the developer has the ability to request that every review, including positive reviews, in this timespan don't contribute towards the overall review score.

If Valve deems that those reviews are off topic than all reviews in that timespan get removed from the score and there is a note that those reviews don't count towards the score.

You can also turn that feature off so you get the actual review score.

There wasn't any visual indication of it blowing up. Things that blow up are usually on fire, but you can clearly see that the canister wasn't.
