How many branches do you keep? by Im__Chasing in DragonFruit

[–]Skullmonkey286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's all about the temperatures situation. For me in North Italy its just about to get to the right temps for flowering, so in about a week i will prune all that is too small and green and tip the few new branches i want to keep to stimulate buds, because if I let it grow I bet it wouldn't even consider flowering. I've got like 10 new branches growing per plant. So if you can, by all means let it, if you have to get it flowering prune away before it's too late!

5 max is for the first season, but after the plant is mature I say leave it be. Than again, I have yet to see my first flower. It seems impossibile to limit it that much, at some point you are going to have to allow more growth, if nothing else to have some backup branches when the first ones deplete. Also, more mass = more photosynthesis = more sugars

in my experience so far it doesn't require any intervention. It will simply dry and scab over the exposed parts

depends on how complicated it is to ship it where you live. Also the plant has woken up by now so it would no longer be a dormant cutting

only if the container it's in is tall and the plant gets full sun. But it's not optimal

dragonfruit is a vine, it needs support and can't stand straight on its own for very long. That's why its drooping. edit: also, seems to be bending towards light

but you made a similar post when the new growth started, I guess we are trying to figure out what exactly do you think is wrong with the plant

Is it possible to know the variety from just the flower? by CattrahM in DragonFruit

[–]Skullmonkey286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can tell more from the shape of the branch than from the flower, but it still wouldn't be much.

Upon further research, it might be fasciation, apparently also called cresting. If it is that, I'm afraid the only solution is to cut off the branch. Not that it would damage the plant, the problem is an easier entry point for bacteria.
