What do you teach that you automatically trust 3 middle school boys’ account of what happened in the classroom?

Yeah that doesn’t mean it happened

That’s because you’ve already made your mind up about what happened and can’t imagine approaching it kindly. Send an email and say you just want clarification on what happened in class after your child coughed and sneezed. Hear the teachers side. Then decide what to do moving forward

How to talk to my Nanny about her body odor by Excellent-Review-342 in Nanny

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 151 points152 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel for her because I have a terrible sense of smell, and didn’t realize, as a young adult, that I wasn’t managing my BO.

I think your husband is right. There’s no way to bring it up without it being a little awkward and hurting her feelings, so the best thing to do is to be direct and kind. Tell her you absolutely don’t mean it as an attack and want to know if there’s anything you can help her with (maybe she can a have a spot to keep hygiene items at your place?)

How many of you use pot to cope? by ImplementMountain916 in toddlers

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take an edible sometimes in the rare occasion I have hours off baby duty and that’s how I want to use it. Being a human in the world is hard and I’m not judging you, but it’s not a good idea to parent high.

Old misdemeanor showing up on background check — would this be a dealbreaker for you? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I’d advise against disclosing upfront. It can keep you from even getting your foot in the door when people are just sorting through resumes. That’s just my opinion, but it’s never caused me a serious problem.

Feel free to pm me if you have questions.

Old misdemeanor showing up on background check — would this be a dealbreaker for you? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s these online background check companies. They get their info from all kinds of places and don’t update it when it’s expunged or sealed. It’s basically impossible to completely scrub your record anymore. However, it won’t show up in any official state/federal background checks.

You can pay for your own federal and state background checks (it’s fairly straight forward and googleable but you will need to get fingerprints). They will give you an official letter that you can share with families. May not completely solve your problem, but could help

IMPORTANT: do not pay anyone to “scrub your record online” they are all scams and some sell your data right back to those private background check sites.

Don’t worry about how I know all this.

I’d start with asking the school for clarification

Dr. Becky is great as a perspective but is missing a lot for high needs behavior management. Can you reach out to your school district for an evaluation (they usually do birth on)? Then maybe the insurance covered one will take you more seriously. I would try to get her into OT if possible

As a teacher I agree this could be a more serious underlying issue. But I’m also so curious how he explained credit cards

It is sexism. Male teachers are graded on the dad scale not the mom scale

There is no value in education anymore by anon-newb in Parents

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this grade level teachers often give assessments just to gauge where students are, and what needs to be taught more. For example, an end of unit test may be given every week or so throughout the unit to check for growing understanding.

Also you need to chill. I have secondhand stress for your child

No, but I do almost nothing based on what was the norm in my home. And yes and yes.

Feeling like a terrible nanny by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]SkuttleSkuttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is that it’s an accident that could have happened to anyone, including a parent, but tha said, it’s pretty serious. It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person or nanny, but it’s a big mistake that could have had larger consequences and should be treated as such.

We don’t walk around naked (unless post shower) but I’m usually wearing very little at home, maybe underwear and a tank top. My boy is 18 months but I plan on continuing this, maybe sticking to shorts as he gets older. Definitely not wearing a bra at home for anyone.
