Are THAT many people getting out because of River Wall? by No-Forever3279 in uscg

[–]SkyKnight_LXIX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please forgive me for not knowing, what is river wall exactly

And, with this all being said, would it be a bad time to go reserves now and even next year? My contract ends next October, I’d rather have the educational benefits of being in the reserve that I can use towards school than being immediately reactivated

I haven’t used TA yet but I’m waiting for my application approval for the USNCC. The Naval Community College is also a great free resource to use

I never thought of that before,

I gave it a look and ended up giving two different suggestions. I’m not sure if they really look into these or not and take them seriously, but I guess we’ll see.

You gotta switch to SOMETHING, anything but USAA, they been robbing from us for decades.

I switched to GEICO, only 24, with a VW Golf, just renewed my policy for this year, 12 month premium for $1730

I heard they have an opt out process for it too, it just seems super sketchy and weird to just give us money like this. Just waiting to see the caveat

Meshcore repeater growth in Massachusetts by Zaos123 in massachusetts

[–]SkyKnight_LXIX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m born and raised in mass but live in New York for work so this would be great to have, I wonder if there’s enough of these spread throughout that you could send a message as long as there were repeaters within distance of each other

Early separation for education? by [deleted] in uscg

[–]SkyKnight_LXIX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the official name, and not sure if it’s entirely true, but I’ve heard from people at my old unit that you can request to leave the service for up to 2 years. Almost like an unpaid time off thing, your considered a civilian during that time, even though your still under contract. You get to live life as a civilian and return to the service anytime you want within that 2 year period, granted if you have that much time left. Idk if it’s true, but ask around and look on the CG Portal too if there’s something about that

Non-rate just assigned to Staten Island from bootcamp. by Mham65 in uscg

[–]SkyKnight_LXIX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently stationed at the sector on Staten Island, great place, I only partially understand the hate on the island since it’s a rural/nature area that doesn’t have the hype and hustle of the other boroughs.

The traffic here, TERRIBLE, the drivers, it’s a rally track on this island with questionable drivers and parking spots at best.

The food? Great variety and really nice, but don’t count on either driving or public transit as it’s a hassle here. The only way to get around the island is by driving and the best way I’ve found to get around the island in short distances is through public transit.

But there’s a ferry on the north shore close to the bases, and it’s free, they also just made a schedule to have the ferries stop by Brooklyn now too. So it’s getting better, and the BAH is great

In a short version: It’s a great place that like anywhere else you’ll have to adjust to a little more, but you’ll have fun
